They’re most likely just busy- in the GTS, on a battle team, rumbling, auction house, etc. I just put a Pokemon on my battle team and attempted to release it through the storage boxes. The same thing happened to me that happened in the video.

Try releasing them from their summary pages, as attempting to do so will tell you if they’re busy.
