Revamped Diary!

I'm ShinyMegaHunter, formerly known as BlackBirdAolen on this site. Pokémon Fan since 1998, obsessed with collecting pixels, and always on the lookout for new self-imposed challenges.

This diary previously was a loose collection of entries of varying nature, but it didn't really go anywhere and finally was abandoned for a good while. Now, I'll try to get everything collected in one spot.

Since it is a pretty huge boatload of stuff that is still to be added... it will be some time before there isn't such a barebones feel to the diary any longer.

Shiny Mega Hunts I undertook so far:

My First Attempt was a SM Swablu.

We are talking no idea how to speed up the hunt other than Tall Grass, no Mega Cuff, just a couple of months trying and failing to get anywhere with the hunt.

The first attempt ended when I couldn't take it any longer. I hatched a total of 2170 Swablus, of which 61 were Shiny, but only 10 were Mega-able. The whole hunt took me almost five months - April 13th was the first Shiny Hatch, September 4th the last attempt and then giving up. The projected chance I could get a SM at? Somewhere around 1 in 7720 hatches. So I might have gotten one in April 2021. MAYBE.

My second attempt was possibly a total dream run, setting out on December 14th, 2019. This was right after Riako announced that the Mega Cuff now triples chances instead of doubling them, while simultaneously raising the Mega Chance by 10%. The game was now on again. And it paid off big time. With the aid of the Gem Collector and Tall Grass, on January 1st, 2020, my SM Altaria hatched, as the seventh hatch of the day, Chain #1363. Only a couple days later, a second one, at Chain #1539 (it was an SCS event that day too!). This put this hunt at a staggering 1550 Swablus hatched, of which 40 were Shiny, and 37 were Mega-able. This puts the chance at 1 in 1623 hatches, with an actual hatching of exactly 1 in 775. Simply incredible. The hunt lasted from December 14th to January 4th, and the amazing chance meant that the break-neck speed at which I was going made it incredibly much easier than I ever would have thought.

What can I even say about this hunt. It has been crazy. In the middle of a hectic SCS, I switched from Swablu to Zubat. On January 11th, I hatched 3 SM Zubats, on Chains #844, #902, and #1133. SM hatches followed on January 14th at Chain #2389, on January 22nd at Chain #3469, on February 1st at Chain #4647, on February 10th at Chain #5431 and on February 11th at Chain 5610. Overall, the chain of 5614 Hatches contained 157 regular Shinies, 130 regular Mega-ables, and 8 Shiny Megas. Hatching probability was 1 in 1549, actual hatches were roughly 1 in 702. I believe this has got to be one of the craziest SM hunts period.

February 21st, 2020: Improved to Rank 7 in Longest Royal Tunnel Expeditions. (Level 12,501)
February 28th, 2020: Improved to Rank 4 in Longest Royal Tunnel Expeditions. (Level 14,038)
March 12th, 2020: All 127 Regular Entries for Johto Regional Dex.
March 12th, 2020: 200 Shiny Dex entries accomplished. (Rank 159 for Most ShinyDex Entries)
March 12th, 2020: All 151 Regular Entries for Kanto Regional Dex.
March 13th, 2020: New personal Record Higher or Lower: Chain 22. (Rank 361 Highest HoL)

Fishing with the Magik Rod - the Hunt for Shiny Magikarps of all Shapes

17th January 2020: Shiny Apricot Pattern Magikarp caught. The first of the 11 different Emera Magikarp Patterns! (I have played Magikarp Jump, and those patterns were just wild.)
18th January 2020: Shiny Mega Magikarp. This takes care of another entry in my Mega Dex. c:
27th January 2020: Shiny Calico Pattern Magikarp.
28th January 2020: Shiny Gray Pattern Magikarp.
3rd February 2020: Shiny Pink Pattern Magikarp.
