Also, is the game going to be in 3D or 2D? Because 3D gaming existed back in the mid 90s.

3D is better, but riskier, as bugs appear more often, and requirements would go higher.

plus this is the 90s so if we make a 3D game with only 12 MB we're pretty much going to have no room for other gameplay elements

Exactly. For 3D, you would need to be more experienced in both Art and Coding.

plus how do we know it's 1996 for all we know it can be 1995
the first game you could call 3D was released in 1992 but that still used flat cards for characters
the first game that DIDN'T use flat cards and instead used 3d models for everything was all the way in 1996

Yeah, even though we have two coders, we only have one artist. We just need to be patient, lets continue with the non-3d game.
