Forum-Index → Fan Clubs → Doki Doki Literature Club! Club [Always accepting!]Honestly I don't mind Monika.. I mean, she has the willpower lol
Sayori's a good character.. possibly rivalling Natsuki. Her character is really fleshed out and she's so happy and so depressed and so.. well done.
Yuri.. meh. I don't see the appeal. Just the mandatory introverted character. Really cliche, my least favourite character of them all.
And Natsuki? She's just so relatable!! Geez, Natsuki is like, the little kid of the group. She's so bitter compared to the other girls but on the inside she's really nice and just wants to help out! I know it's a bit of an overused character trope but I JUST..
UGHHH ITS SO GUUUUUUDD I LOVE HER CHARACTER AND HER POEMS
Yuri is by far my least favorite. Being a dandere, she's extremely shy and I dunno. It's implied that she's an alcoholic as well, sooo... Not appealing at all.
Sayori is not too far from Monika, but suffers from her character. Having depression her whole life, but keeping it a secret from her best friend, which is understandable I guess, but when she tried to introduce us to the club, her depression grew worse because the main character starting interacting with the other girls. I believe when Sayori finally tells the player she has depression, that's when Monika begins tinkering with Sayori, amplifying her depression. I believe this because it is implied via Monika that this game just happened to be the timeline where Monika finally stepped in. Then again, I could be wrong because the game still gives us the option to confess to Sayori. (although the plot did write itself for the suicide scene sooo) Anyways, great idea for a deredere, but the execution could have been better. Also remind me to rant about how much the MC sucks.
Monika is second best girl. Yes, she made Sayori kill herself. Yes, she also made Yuri kill herself. YES. SHE ALSO MADE NATSUKI THE SINGLE MOST TERRIFYING CHARACTER. But. Why? If you recall (spoilers kiddos buckle up),

I believe that she does have morals, and if you call her a
heartless monster this will become a copypasta.Monika is president. When she
reinstalls all the characters, Sayori becomes president and gains
sentience. Another interesting fact, though, is considering the
VICE president. They both end up killing themselves. Heck, Sayori
would have probably ended up killing herself anyways after the
events of the game. Monika just sped it up so that she could have a
higher chance with us. Unfortunately, she ultimately messed up and
realized her mistake: Killing off a character screwed up the plot.
She then deleted Sayori, and modified the game to reset it, trying
again. She didn't even end up deleting them all anyways. She grew
sentimental and just stored them somewhere so that she would have
to deal with the guilt of killing off her friends.
Last, but most CERTAINLY not least. Best Girl Natsuki. What makes her best girl? While we have the girls being deres, specifically the most popular ones, we seemed to have missed one. Monika does qualify as yandere btw. It's tsundere, and Natsuki was born to fit the theme. Short, cute, uhhhh lacking in what some men see in women, and a nasty temper to those she's not close to. Adoring the simple things in life, getting into arguments with those she disagrees with, hell, she's the closest character to representing me, AND the MC. The game drops casual suggestions towards choosing Natsuki's route, which is filled with laughs, uncomfortable scenes, and Natsuki unleashing her -dere side. Heck, she even releases her -dere side during Act 2, with that poem she wrote to you about Yuri. By far the saddest out of school things happen to her, worse than suicide, worse than self-harming and liking a pen. Parental abuse. Malnourishment. Natsuki probably took up cooking so that she could eat for herself when her father starves her. She's never taken seriously in the club, and deserves better.
Fun fact of the day: Typing "Sayori Sayori Sayori" in google translate while translating it from Japanese to English will net you this: "Say goodbye Sayuri"
(wow I love wasting my time)
Update: (wow I spent over 20 minutes on this)
and yuri is horrible, i just.. where's the appeal? i don't know how you guys like her >:0c i mean.. she's.. edgy?? like no
Monika was programmed to go crazy. Something about the President role causes each girl to become self aware and their inherent love for you becomes obsessive. When Monika is actually able to act on her own accord, and you read some of her hidden text, she's selfless. She loves you, and if making you happy means having herself destroyed, and bringing back the other girls, then so be it. In her secret text, she implies that you need to try and stop all this from happening in the first place so they can all live. (Alluding to another game)
Sayori is obviously a great character, considering how she portray the role of a clinically depressed girl so well. I disagree that she would have killed herself regardless, considering there are many people, including myself, who suffer from depression their entire lives, but trudge through it. Depression isn't always bad, it can have it's up times, and I feel like hers was pretty mild without Monika tinkering with it. Sayori seems like a person who would have their down times, but surround herself with people and things she loved to cheer her up. She's extremely thoughtful, smart, and puts others first, so of course she's like-able.
Natsuki is also a pretty good representation of a young girl in Highschool. Having the tough exterior is exactly what /I/ used to do when I was unsure of myself, which is seen when she feels childish for liking cute things or reading manga. I actually "aw"ed when she wrote the letter concerning Yuri, and the idea of her baking is a fantastic coping mechanism for the stress she endures at home. For being so young, she's definitely handling her problem the best of the three.
Yuri is.. my favourite. She portrays an older teenager who suffers with multiple disorders so well. I'm not a professional, but I'm studying in the field, and most things point to her having Anxiety, Low self esteem, and possible depression that would cause her to cut to cope. If you go her "route", you find out that she rambles and overthinks everything, and constantly apologizes for /being interested in things/ because people disliked it in the past. Cutting is an addiction, and from someone who has experienced it first hand, her sudden bouts of doing it in inappropriate places (at school, at the main character's house) makes a lot of sense. Yuri dislikes herself, so she doesn't show herself. She likes to get lost in books, probably because its not only one of her favourite things, but also keeps the thoughts at bay. It makes her happy, even if she's too scared to show how interested she is. We never really get to see Yuri comfortable, and the small times we do, she's either used to scare us or as a plot point to make us feel bad for ditching depressed Sayori.
Edit: Was thinking, and Yuri is the only one who seems to struggle with unhealthy coping mechanisms without any tinkering to the game, and it's not something she should be shamed for. It just means she'd need an extra boost to recover.
