Sam listened as Lan continued down the river. She looked around the
cavern, and sighed. "What do I do now?" she whispered to herself
softly. She then heard a loud crackle of thunder just above her
head. What if the river floods? she thought to herself in
concern, but shook it away. He'll leave before it does...I don't
think he's idiotic enough to risk being swept away she sighed,
and curled up and listend to the rain.
As the weather began to pick up, the river's water level began to
rise. Lan silently swore to himself, and made one last check around
the suspicious looking cavern, before leaving. "Sam, are you in
this cave?" he called out one more time.
Sam looked up, she wasn't going to respond when she heard a roaring
from down stream. "Yes I'm in here, and if you want to not drown I
suggest you get in here" she spat lowly. The roaring sound was
coming closer.
Sam sat up, "and why should I?" she asked simply. "I'm a fire
pokemon now...I can make a camp fire, and the cave is a safe enough
distance away from the river's flood" she said tartly.
"Hmm," Lan said, "I guess so. Kinda odd, really. Rick wasn't able
to use a move for at least a month when he got here, and even then,
he couldn't replicate it for another few weeks."
Sam shrugged, and sighed "well I'm sure Rick didn't have any
trouble making friends, or being trustworthy..." she hissed
quietly. "Listen." She began a bit more loudly "I'm not coming
back...I honestly don't want to be a burden to you, and Rick. It
was nice of you to take me in, but I don't think I belong with you
guys" she sighed sadly, and looked away.
Lan sighed. "Don't mind Rick, he's a bit... skeptical at times," he
said, "He just isn't quick to trust people he meets in peculiar
situations. And... It wasn't you he was mad at, it was me. After a
certain... incident... he doesn't like people he doesn't
fullheartedly trust knowing certain stuff about him."
Sam flicked an ear, and shrugged. "Still though..." she said lowly
"I don't know if I feel wanted there" she sighed. "No I'm not
saying you, and Rick aren't kind or anything. I just don't feel
like I'm needed there" she mumbled.
The next morning, as Lan and Rick were heading out for a mission,
Lan headed to the cave Sam had slept in. "Hello?" he called, "Sam,
you in there?" Rick peeked his head inside the cave, watching as
Lan walked in.
Sam looked up, and yawned. She felt stiff from sleeping on the
stone ground. "Yeah I'm here" she said quietly. She flicked some
dust off her ear, and sat up. The campfire from last night was no
more than a few charred sticks next to her, and the cave was
smaller than she originally thought.
"Are you dying?" Lan asked, "Because if not, you should probably
head to town square, if you still refuse to stay with Rick and I.
You can probably find a job or something to get money around
there." Rick sighed. He didn't mean to offend Sam by what he said,
but apparently she was overly sensitive. I guess that would make
sense though, Rick thought, If she is a human like Lan said,
then she's probably still freaking out.
