Forum-Index → Fan Clubs → Writers Club (Always Accepting Authors!)I'll read that tomorrow and try to give some feedback. Please remind me to do this though if I end up not doing it before 17:00 Server Time
@everyone
I'm gonna do the auto correct writing challenge.
Challenge: Write a short story. Every 5th word must be the first word your auto correct suggests you.
I only need a theme, so throw themes at me to try and inspire a story from.
In a spoiler because idk if I'm a part of the club anymore, I don't post because I havent writen recently

So I'm not sure if this is the right
place, but since it will either be an animation or a story, I want
you guy's opinion on
this idea for a story
So I just kind of started writing this story again that I've been working on for... At least two years? I keep dropping it since it started off as a fanfiction of a fandom I've since lost interest in, but I've grown so attached to the story itself and all the characters that I just feel the sudden urge to keep going with it every now and then.
Weird question, but does that happen to anyone else? You drop a story and just randomly feel like continuing it again?
All the time.
I create characters, leave them, and then find I can't abandon their lives completely, so I have to continue. Especially since I've been writing for so long, I'll have days were I'll find one of my old notebooks, take a trip down memory lane, and then get way too attached.
See, Flayer I think I already said started as a Freshman prompt, something futuristic, we had to have some kind of backstory, a prologue if you will, and a main chapter. My teacher at the time said it should go on, the potential of each character to have their own ultimate power which turns into their downside. Which is exactly what I managed to do.
so my opinion is probably gonna be like useless, cause I'm scared of moths... anyway, I'm not sure what you mean "creepiest things in text", so I'm gonna skip that (if and when I figure it out I'll add that, either to this or palpad/PM or something), and since I haven't read many I won't be a good source or whatever, but... in my opinion, a creepypasta is creepy when the lore behind it works. Take Undertale's Amalgamates for example.

It totally fits with the lore of the
game, Alphys's character, and it gives character background. Little
hidden eastereggs makes it also creepy to be there. I play with no
volume, but it just has an ominous feeling.
I guess for me it's the Lore and Research aspect of a creepypasta.
Using excess to make it creepy is kinda unnessasary, like "Circle You Circle You", and it's inclusion of popular creepypastas ruined it for many, and even that didn't scare me.
As for my favorite, I don't really have one? I don't read many because I'm easily spooked.
Mood.
Oh boy, if you want something to be creepy, draw it out for as long as you possibly can without boring the reader
Seriously, it sets your nerves on edge. Or, at least for me. Also, pick something that people can sort of relate to, I guess? Like, pick the cliche "something under the bed" but with a twist, to keep it from being cheesy. Just don't go creepy with haunted manors and stuff, that's stupid and not scary at all. If you pick something that everyone does every day, like brushing your teeth or something idk, it makes the scary stuff seem more real, in a way.
Maybe I'm just crazy who really knows.
Drawing from what I've learnt reading Edgar Allen Poe (who I recommend if you'd like to write creepy stories), atmosphere is everything. If you don't establish a creepy atmosphere and tone early on, your story will not work. It doesn't matter if the characters do creepy things, or if the plot itself is creepy, atmosphere is everything.
I'll share a little example:

The door in front of me seemed to
stretch up higher than the ceiling, calling me forward to go down
into the cellar. Cool, damp air enveloped me as I opened it, and a
dark stairway was the only thing in my line of sight. God help me
if there was any sign of a lightswitch.
I zipped up my jacket and stepped into the doorway, closing the door with a loud SLAM that filled the narrow hallway with a loud burst of sound. As my ears stopped ringing and my eyes adjusted as much they could, I stretched my foot forward to look for the next step. As I put weight on it, a small creak sent chills down my spine.

Didn't want to take that too far, since I just wrote that on a whim xD
But you get the idea.
ALSO, the characters are important too! If your characters aren't that scary, even if you have a really good atmosphere, than, it's hard to take the story a bit seriously (at least for me).
That and, try not to stereotype the idea, or have appear just.... Dumb. I've heard of a lot of horror things, where the concept is just so... Stupid sounding. Also, with stereotypical creepypasta ideas here are two I can think of:
- Insane serial killer who is probably a teen with some sort of anger management problem.
- Haunted/Cursed/Possessed game cartridge/copy.
Also, the character motives should be CLEAR. I've read some creepypasta's (my friend used to read them, with me, and kinda made me read them with her), and there are a lot of creepypasta characters with very unclear motives. like... "Why is murder doing this?" and the reason is just like "Idk bc we needed a murderer lol". And.. That doesn't work.
That's all I got. ....Sorry for rambling. (Also, as for FAVORITE, it's probably some of the not-scary ones, but oh there was this one Pokemon creepypasta. I think it might've been that 'Snow On Mt. Silver' one, but I read that a LONG time ago, so I don't remember exactly. All I know is that I had nightmares for weeks after my friend made me read that, proving that the creepypasta did it's job in scaring me.)
One thing I really liked most was PokeSlender. I played the game, but never had the guts to finish, idk why but every time I played there was this distinct smell in the house that always had me frightened, then when I stopped playing the game that scent faded. It was weird, but eh.
