"Wait," Fallow muttered, inhaling sharply. "The demons found us..." Marshall looked into the distance, alertly, and raised his hand. "No, stop. You're no use passed out," she said, forcing him to lower his hand. There was a pause between the two. "We need to leave the forest," Marshall said in a hushed voice. "No, we can't! We'll leave Abeline and Trauma behind, not to mention they might die!" Fallow hissed, her wings lashing out. "We're putting them in danger, Fallow. It's best if we don't even be around them."
"The demons will take them. Use them for information. Use them as hostages," Fallow countered, summoning her weapon. "They know how to hide."
Fallow paused, taking Marshall by the arms. "Right now we need to go before the demons spot us. We'll discuss this later," she growled, leaping off of the tree. They swerved slightly, going past the mermaid's minions and towards a single dot in the water... a loner?
"That's her," Marshall noted, taking no surprise. Fallow nodded and dived towards the water, sucking in air before they reached the ground. They paddled towards Abeline, forming a bubble around the three. "Hi," the twins said in unison.

Urgency laced Abeline's voice as she rapidly spoke. "Fallow! Marshall! The demons are right on the shoreline...! Not to mention that we're really close to that Mermaid pod." She bit her lip. "We need to get out of here." The saltwater was beginning to sting her eyes, and her skin would surely be unbearably dry after this ordeal.

Marshall's eyes darted around them. They sea creatures were swarming towards the trio, only heightening his worries. Salt water reached their knees, which was unfortunate, but also the least of their worries. "I guess now is more the time than ever," he mumbled, looking over at Fallow. She nodded, taking a moment to catch her breath. "Keep in mind this is somewhat at random... and we'll probably have to run, okay?" she said, grabbing both of their hands swiftly. Although her face was discreet about the amount of focus she had to use, as well as the slight discomfort in her head, they were easily teleported near the banks of the river.

Abeline dropped to one knee, unused to her sudden weight. Cat tails gently swayed around her, and frogs leaped by her feet. She stood shakily, and spit out a mouthful of water. Her legs were shaking and her whole arm was trembling. She could hear the angry cries of the demon soldiers as they realized what had happened. "We need to go farther away." She shook her head. "Can you teleport us somewhere? Or does your magic have a certain limit?"

"It does," Fallow replied, taking Abeline's trembling arm lightly. "Are you sure you'll be alright?" She asked, her eyebrows knitting in concern. The waters suddenly rose, a whirlpool forming in the distance. Marshall hissed in a somewhat ancient demon language, his eyes dark and morose. Without a warning, Fallow teleported them only a few meters away. Her knees gave out, making her kneel on the floor, heaving. "You alright?" Marshall said, loosely taking her arm. "That's the farthest I can go for now. We need to find Trauma and get out of here," she grumbled.

(Sorry it took me so long to respond! I have been very busy this week. x.x)
Abeline grabbed Fallow's other arm. "I'm fine... but you're not." She said, shaking her head. "You need to stop using your magic..." She paused a moment, glaring at her sodden boots. "Who is this Trauma anyways? Friend of yours? Enemy you're trying to take out?"

(Nonono it's okay! You didn't take that long ^-^)
"I know, I know... I'll be fine, they used to push us even farther..." she trailed off a bit. "Anyways, Trauma's the name of the elf we found. Forgot to mention that." Her eyes glanced around the forest, preparing herself for the sight of an enemy. Rays of sunshine spilled through the tree leaves, giving the grass floor a nice dapple. Rodents and birds swarmed away from them, as if they could hear dangerous foes approaching--and they probably were. Marshall bit his lip as if considering other options, but he didn't say it aloud.
------
The group of demons rushed away from the clearing, darting into the forest with lightning-fast speeds. Trauma steadily crouched on the tree branch, running his fingers over the carved designs of his longbow. They're after the others, he realized, silently climbing down a few branches before dropping softly onto the ground. It was a strange situation, and he was certain that the strangers would have an answer. If they spot me, I might die.
He sprinted after the demons, trailing far behind them to ensure his safety.

(*dramatic gasp* No...! I cannot believe you are being so nice to me! *another dramatic gasp*)
Abeline tensed. Her hyper-sensitive ears caught onto the gentle footfalls of the demonic soldiers. Her ears morphed into her deer ones to pick up on the sound better. Now, she could hear the labored breathing of a few soldiers and the dozens of feet striking the ground at the same time. She shook her head. "We need to move. They're coming this way. If we don't leave quickly, they'll catch us." She paused, swiveling her ears this way and that. "They're about a mile away, but moving extremely fast." She glanced at the twins, her expression foreboding. "They should be here within minutes."

(Gasping intesifies)
Marshall looked at Abeline's morphed ears in surprise, but lowered his head when he realized he was staring. He'd never seen anything that could only partly morph themselves, but then again he'd never really gone out of the demon world before. Even though the demon guards had the ability to morph into more animal-like forms, he'd never seen it. "We need to get moving," Fallow said, huffing.
Marshall nodded, looking over at Fallow. She wasn't strong enough to fly them, and the demon's speed was at a much higher rate then theirs. "Abeline, if they get anywhere near us, just go into deer form and run. They won't go after you if they get us," he mumbled to the her, his eyes narrowing in thought. The roots of the trees swiftly rose, moving in to form a wall. It wouldn't stop them, but it'd slow them down. His gut twisted as coaxed the energy out of him. Fallow began to run, and Marshall followed.
------
Trauma leapt across the branches, which were right about water. It was a larger sea than he remembered, but it was possible he'd never even been to this spot of the forest before. Odd sea creatures that looked like goblins dove into the water, their glassy eyes unblinking. It was as if they had no mind of their own. Shuddering, Trauma continued past the lake.

(gasping intensifies...er?)
Abeline nodded assent to Marshall's request, but she wouldn't actually do it. The duo had not meant to lead the demons to her, and she would never be able to bear the guilt of leaving them behind in danger. Especially now that their magic was mostly or totally depleted.
The two demon twins, despite being exhausted from their use of magic, set a fast pace, and Abeline struggled to keep up at first. Eventually, she gave up trying to keep up in her human form and followed after in her deer form, bounding among the brambles that grabbed her legs. She kept her face un-morphed, just in case she needed to talk at any time. She was finding that as she was practicing her skills, they were becoming more flexible and bendable.

Marshall glanced at Abeline from the corner of his eye, wondering if she was able to keep up. He and Fallow had been in training, both physically and mentally, for years and both had very high endurance levels. Plus, they pushed themselves to the limit--especially now that their life was on the line. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her in her deer form, her face un-morphed. It was terrifying, but at the same time amazing; he didn't know how to feel about this. He leaped over a fallen tree log, turning his gaze away from Abeline. "How far are they?" He asked quickly.
-------
Trauma leapt from tree to tree, swiftly, until he was near the lead of the demons. How close were the others? He breathed heavily, and not just from jumping from branches. The demons had keen senses, but they were fixated on the twins--so much that they didn't notice him. What if one demon just decided to simply look up, or tilt his head ever so slightly? He would be seen. It's fine. Ignore them, he told himself.

Abeline's ears flicked backwards automatically. "About a quarter mile away, and gaining fast." She paused for a moment, fighting for breath. All of those years alone in the woods really had done her more harm than good. "Maybe we should stand here and fight them. I mean..." she paused, gasping for air, "wouldn't it be better to face them head on rather than have them attack from behind?"

"There's... too many," Fallow murmured, breathing heavily now. "They're strong." It felt as if her insides were being constricted. An arrow, engulfed in fire, suddenly zipped ahead. It barely missed Marshall and Abeline (Fallow was too short). And I suppose we don't have a choice, she thought, sighing. Marshall swore in an ancient demon language, making Fallow glare at him chidingly. "Sorry," he mumbled under his breath. She summoned her weapon, inhaling sharply.
-------
Trauma caught up with the demons, and they skidded to a stop. What's going on? he thought, peering ahead. There, he saw three figures--each of which he vaguely recognized. He dropped from the tree, ducking low and sprinting in zigzags do avoid getting shot. Trauma stopped in front of the tall male--Marshall--and strung an arrow to his weapon. "Hey," he murmured.

Abeline saw Trauma land silently out of the corner of her eye. "Ah." She said, tensing her muscles and staring straight ahead. "So you're Trauma." She paused, listening. "Well," she said, ducking to dodge an arrow, "I hope you're good at fighting." And then the first wave of demons burst from the underbrush, holding bows that danced with blue flame.

Trauma opened his mouth to answer, but was distracted at the sight of an arrow whizzing past. He took a deep breath and, within the deepest focus, released the string. It slipped from his fingers, sending an arrow twirling into the air. It pierced into a demon's throat, making him fall back into the bushes. His arrows quickly shot two more demons. Fallow, huffing beside him, charged towards the bushes, ducking so that none of the arrows would reach her way. She swiftly slammed into the core of a demon archer, and, dodging another arrow, pierced her spear through the chest of another archer. The spear ricocheted across the armor, forcing her to slam the butt of the spear into the demon's head. They collapsed onto the ground.

Abeline flung herself into the fray. She let out grunts as demons attacked her from all sides. She briefly morphed into her human form, but swung around deer arms to knock a few demons out of her way. She was doing no serious damage, she realized suddenly as three she had felled sprung to their feet. She had to be lethal in this battle. These weren't people. These were monsters. With that thought in her head, she fought even harder than before.

Fallow a sharp, evanescent pain struck over Fallow's midriff. She coaxed herself to keep moving, dodging another blow from the well-built demon. You're off your game, Fallow thought chidingly, veering to the side. Fallow rose, quickly, striking the demon's spine harshly with the butt of her weapon (she truly didn't want to take anyone down if she didn't have to). The enormity of the demon's dark, sunken eyes was almost hypnotizing--of course, Fallow had seen demons before, just not this particular species. She'd never left the main kingdom of the demon world, so she never got a chance to really see the other demons. At least, not in non-human form, she thought grimly, sighing and lunging towards another soldier.

Abeline's back ached. Her arms throbbed. Her legs were shaking. The repeated morphing into and out of her deer form was really taking the toll on her body. Oh, and the swarm of demons around her wasn't helping much either.
She hissed at one in a desperate attempt to protect her flank. Of course, it wasn't scared off. Rather, it growled right back before slashing a wound open in her hip. She groaned as blood began to flow. The pain was surprisingly dull underneath all the adrenaline, but she was losing blood fast. She couldn't bear to give up now, though. Not when her friends were right by her side, fighting just as hard as she was.

Ephemeral pain shot through Trauma, forcing him to release a gravelly cough. A copper-like taste filled his mouth, leaving him nothing to do but spit it out. He struck his fist to the demon's chin, forcing the creature's head to tilt up. Like he had hoped, this exposed the demon's flesh. Trauma clenched his teeth tightly, slashing his blade across the jugular vein. Ink-black liquid, thick as honey, spilled out from the demon's neck. The demon lunged once more, as if it were nothing. Alarmed, Trauma swiftly dodged out of the way. Perhaps it's further in than I expected, he thought, turning towards his opponent. He ducked, sheathing his daggers. His arrow swiftly pierced the demon's throat, ending its life. He coughed, running over to assist Abeline.

The elf was an amazing fighter. Abeline noted this as he dashed over to assist her. His bows and arrows flew like it was nothing, and his daggers would only flash for an instant before disappearing into an enemy. She fought beside him, feeling like a large and clumsy bear next to a graceful wildcat.
