"Some sort of symbolism thing," Orion replied; he hadn't been listening all that well. "Collaboration is a natural human instinct, but so is survival. It's only the first day; I can only imagine how animalistic all this will get when the strain starts rolling in." He scanned the people around him thoughtfully as he spoke, lingering on Evie. She was the only one he knew, and she was notoriously a bit insane beforehand.
He turned back to Dexter and shrugged. "I think the decision was made from a utilitarian standpoint. Pending death, it's not really something you ever learn to accept, y'know? I've found that the best way to get over it is to not think about it."

Dawn's lips scrunched up in consideration to the suggestion as she looked at Maxwell. Her eyes strayed to his side and she took a deep breath. "Is there any way we can transport right to the house?... It'll be safe there, and you need to be treated as soon as possible. You guys have some strong nature Fantasies."
Her voice was strained with her next admittance: "I left Fallow at home. But what do you want to do?"

It came out more as a mumble, "Thanks."
Rowan held the ceramic cup carefully--it was a handmade beige one adorned with ivy decals, something Jinx had decided she liked at the local pottery store that was run by a friend of hers. Everything found in their apartment was most likely brought by her; if not for his sister, Rowan would probably living in a terrible bachelor pad with gang members.
The scarce feathers that freckled his arm ruffled a bit when he took a careful sip--mostly because it was too hot--and his tired brain couldn't help but soften for Willow. Cinnamon shouldn't be enough to win me over, he thought, teasing himself.
"Are your nightmares bad?" He queried in the same soft, slightly-out-of-it voice.
--------------------
"M'lady," he grinned, looping his arm loosely through hers and stepping into the church. He closed the door slowly behind them. The entire church smelled quite stale--it was a small, cramped room made of wood and the most interesting thing in the room was the simple cross that was hung on the wall across from them. Jack had been in worse places.

He nodded in solidarity. "Do you have that problem often?" he asked, his voice raspy and tender from dropping his defenses in his fatigue. He knew that Jinx kept a lot of tea and spices and whatnot in the kitchen--he wasn't the chef of the family--and quite often brewed her own tea in the morning.
--------------
"Oh, hush," Jack retorted, giving her a teasing nudge. He fell quiet, however, when she knocked. His heartbeat quickened slightly in anticipation for footsteps, but there was only a void of silence from the other end--it was safe enough for him to assume that nobody was there.
"Okay, okay. It's been settled." He cracked his knuckles and looked over his shoulders to give their surroundings a quick skim, making sure that nobody was there to witness his crimes. Jack fished out two rusty hairpins from his satchel and promptly wriggled them into the lock, fumbling a bit before the familiarity of the task sunk in and he was able to slowly make progress.
"Give me a bit..." he mumbled, biting his lip and listening to the clicks of the lock. It had always been calming for him; illegal puzzles were a fun pastime.
He let himself calm down in the few minutes it took him to reach a satisfying click, to which he turned to Crystal with a grin. "We're set."

Orion let out a long, exasperated sigh. "Their game started this morning, I think. The plan is for only one survivor--something about ending the war for good, which I doubt will last in the long term. Although I guess I won't be alive to see it through anyway," he mumbled darkly, stopping himself when he realized he should be more sympathetic. "I'm sorry you have to go through this again. I can't imagine what that's like."

Xena's soft sigh alerted Dawn to her mild annoyance, and although she had more to say on the topic, she simply gave Maxwell a solemn nod to end the conversation.
She turned back to the matter at hand, catching a glimpse at Maxwell's injury with a scrunched nose. "Anyways. Thank you so much for sheltering us, Xena. Is there any way that we could get Maxwell back home safely?"

For a minute, Dawn didn't know what to say. An itch crawled up her throat and she cleared it briefly, covering her mouth with her fist. "The Fantasy camp?" She asked softly in disbelief.

Her eyebrows furrowed and she shot a look at Maxwell. "Tempest...?" She murmured, wondering how the Weather Beast could have possibly crossed paths with her sister. She's been away from me for a while, Dawn reminded herself, things have changed.

"Sorry," Rain said softly, delicately scooping the kitten back up and allowing her to comfortably sit in his lap. Crysia reached out to pet Shadow's head just as Reign sat down next to them--he tried his best not to get in the way when his brother was with Scarlet--with Crimson floating on his back a couple of feet away, watching them expressionlessly as always.

Void perked up when Lucius addressed him directly. Wither had already risen to her feet and helped Magnolia sit up by the time that Lucius was done talking. She covered Magnolia's hand lightly with her own and met her bright eyes, which she had always thought were so wonderfully radioactive, her voice soft. "Do you want me to carry you?"

Less than half of Rowan's attention had seeped into the conversation that the two were having. It would have been hard not to eavesdrop--beyond trying to keep himself awake for tea, there were limited things to do in the small space that they now shared, and avoiding an argument with Willow wasn't the most entertaining pastime.
He found his mind idly drifting to his memories of the surface but could find nothing of relevance beyond his career as a gang member, his focus brushing the many memories he had of desperately trying to claw his way through to a decent rank of respect. Sleepless nights, callused knuckles, gruff taunting.
And the smirk on the scarred lips of the stranger he had met out on the street. Most likely a seasoned criminal, with that confidence; the rabbit had been the kind of person that Rowan best stay away from to avoid inter-gang conflict, yet he couldn't help but feel a familiar spark of trouble-causing curiosity when he thought about the encounter.
Rowan decided that he would rather attempt a conversation with Willow than be left alone with such dangerous thoughts, and angled his head towards the kitchen. "What kind of tea are you making?"
------------
Jack carefully guided his injured friend towards the church. He was usually good at hiding himself in crowds, being a face that most strangers would simply gloss over, but he had to be more careful in what he was about to do with Crystal by his side. The white bandages on her face were worthy of a double-take from a passerby.
They were lucky enough to make it to the doors of the dilapidated church, even more empty as it was a weekday, without spotting a single person.
"Oop, stairs. Be careful." He put a light hand on her back for extra guidance as they neared the doors. He tapped his knuckles lightly on the mahogany wood--for who, he didn't quite know--and gave the handle a light push when there was no answer.
"Alright, Crystal. I think we're going to have to pick this," Jack said as he squinted his eyes to peer at the keyhole.

"Okay," Wither said, a simple word spoken like a promise. Her hand gradually swept to Magnolia's head, where she comfortingly brushed her fingers through her hair. Kurai hasn't come back yet, she thought to herself, looking at the door and hoping that she was enough support for Magnolia alone.

Orion simply nodded, finding sympathy for someone who felt a lack of commitment to their government merely because of birthright. Personally, he was indifferent to the Lux, but he knew that he would feel the same way if he was born a Nova and could easily see how one could grow hatred for either. His concentration followed the movement of Dexter's hand and he let him talk.
"So you know these forests well, then?"

Rain perked up in surprise when he realized that Scarlet had been listening, shame crawling up his face in the form of a soft warm hue from talking about his partner behind her back. He watched Gale, dumbstruck, and covered his mouth with his fingers. "I-i..." he trailed off and delicately wrapped his hands around Shadow to move her so that he could go after Scarlet.
Crysia interrupted, "Stay put, Rain. She didn't seem... angry and I'm sure she needs the time alone being how fresh this all is."
"A-are you sure?" His head swung back in her direction with what was a look of desperate worry.
"Give her a little bit."

Rowan simply stood there with his expression of stone and slightly furrowed eyebrows. This was as close to surprise as he would typically allow himself to look (especially in front of Willow); his pupils grazed the floor and looked to his side at Nanaki briefly before he complied and sat down. Stubborn brat has a heart when it comes to more than just the kid, he thought, leaning back into the softness of the couch.

Dawn couldn't deny that she was in awe. After all, she had sat through hours of "historic" Fantasy lectures that, admittedly, she and a vast majority of the other Fantasies had brushed off as mere myths or tall tales. She bit her lip to suppress the ironic smile that dared to tug at her face muscles as she scanned the towering stalk of the tree, which was a spitting image of the ones described in her childhood stories. Maxwell's soft grip on her arm seemed to pull her back to reality--danger.
"Are there others here?" She asked Xena, a bit unsettled by how remarkably bare the dimension was.

Crysia sat with her legs crossed and her palm cupping her cheek for support. Her viciously red eyes seemed to be flaming with more poorly-contained intensity than normal, with her jaw visibly clenched and her dark eyebrows wrinkled together. Rain was still cradling Scarlet when he noticed her from across the clearing. He inquisitively cocked his head and motioned her closer in a way that suggested she had no other choice. Reign was, sadly, much less attentive of emotions and even more so unaccustomed to talking about anything in that regard.
"You're angry. Talk about it," he suggested softly. Crysia huffed and looked down at Scarlet, who was still sleeping, and instead diverted the conversation to her (but not really). "Has she noticed Lucifer?"
"What do you mean?" Rain's eyes widened.
"He's gone. He left. I... hope she's able to take it alright."

Orion raised his eyebrows in a mock surprise and shrugged. "Yeah, sure. Sounds about right," he replied. "My estimates are around the same, more or less." His irises darted to his side when he heard Koji mewl and he had to take a split second to remind himself that his beloved companion was safe in the care of Ivy. "What county you from?"

Gemini would be losing it right now, Dawn thought to herself, remembering how he had adamantly denied all of the Fantasies myths during heated discussions in the mess hall. The chilly fog that embraced her ankles was the first thing that Dawn noticed, and her instincts immediately sparked with wariness in response. She couldn't help it; even without her Fantasy abilities, her subconscious was slightly unnerved by the dreary realm of Darkness--she had grown up around many Darkness Fantasies, which resulted in her being both comfortable around them and aware of the potential havoc and nightmarish nature that they harbored.
She stared at Maxwell and wondered if he felt a sense of resonance or belonging. Or, perhaps, a lack of such due to his hybrid-brought conflicts.
Dawn scanned the tree that towered behind them, "Could you... explain this place a little bit?" Her head snapped back to Xena, even though she already knew the answer to her question. But the stories could be exaggerated. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
