I suggest that instead of the
[user]XYZ[/user]
, we could adopt the more popular code, shown below.

Present Model
[user]Riako[/user]

Result: Riako

Suggestion
@Riako

Result: @Riako

Pros-:
People can use the [user] code in less time.
Users don't have to learn the code.

Cons-:
Informing users about the upgrade.

(it's currently work-in-progress)

[user] is easy enough to type- if we're going to get rid of that, why not remove [b], [i], and [u] and replace them with **, __ and \\ for no reason at all?

I suggested the '@' maner as it is the more popular way of addressing a user than linking them using the [user] code.

The thing is, there's virtually no difference- it simply links to a user's profile rather than notify them like in other social platforms.
Your point?

First things first, how will the code work?

Each PH code or so I know is like this: [x] text [/x] How will this work? Or just simply @*username*?

No support.
The @User is used for referring to a particular user. The [user] tag on the other hand is for linking to a users profile. So this suggestion is of no use.
Thank you.

I don't know much about coding, but I thought that when a user used @USER code, the system would perceive it as
[user]USER[/user],
and execute it like that.

But still, if the @*inserts username* would be real, then how will this affect Pal Pad and Feeds?

The BB Code [user]X[*user] is already that easy to memorize, if a newbie comes up and asks, we can teach them and/or direct them to the BB Code guide.

What are you suggesting is a Ping system
@ is used only on ping systems and alerts a certain user that they got mentioned by someone

also
It was suggested there

the BB code is BB code and a Ping is a Ping, really different

I don't support this because a lot of people use the @ before a nickname when referring to other users.

Like when people talk to me, they go "@Navu" but if they are linking me they go "[User]Navuso[/user]"

The first would link them to a user that doesn't exist, and if it's turned into a ping, there will be people getting pinged for other people's comments.

A good example of this is when I used to go by Demonshade.
@Demon and @Shade were used when talking to me.
Demon and Shade would have gotten those pings if this was implemented, and I wouldn't have.
