As Eona set the table, Melez took out the food and set the bowls of
meat and rice on the table. "Do you have serving spoons we could
use? If not our own silverware would work fine." She chuckled as
she removed the tops from the steaming dishes, the scent of curry
and rice intermingling with one another as they wafted out of their
containers filling the room.
Eona nodded, moving over to a drawer. There were tons of sparkling
silverware inside. Some of it was decorative, some just plan. While
they were apart of her treasure, practicality demanded that they be
used. Pulling out enough spoons so each container had one, she
returned to the table and set the spoons down next to them. "This
smells amazing! And looks really good too!" she said, taking a
seat.
Melez walked over and began serving Eona first. A few scoops of
rice and then ladling the chicken and onions on top. The steam rose
from the plate and dishes disturbed as her hands moved through it.
"I does smell good, I only hope that it tastes as good as it
smells." She chuckled as she quickly served herself, putting less
on her plate than she did for the dragon. Once done serving she
left the utensils in the bowls and sat down at her spot. "Dig in."
A large, but somewhat nervous smile spread across her features.
Eona smiled, watching her serve the meal. Once Melez's plate had
food, Eona took a bite. Flavor exploded in her mouth and her taste
buds must have died, for she found them in heaven. She moaned,
unable to hide just how much she loved the dish. "I think I can
live solely on this. For the rest of forever. I need nothing else
to sustain me!" she said, taking another bite and another. After
the third large bit, she stopped and said, "I am going to eat this
way too fast..." Then she tried again, much slower, savoring each
bite.
Melez watched her friend eat a single bite and her smile fell as
did her stomach as she thought that the moan was from either
discomfort or pain. Once Eona began gushing about the meal Melez's
smile returned and her cheeks flushed as she had never gotten such
over generous compliments about anything. After eating a bite
herself she chuckled. "I doubt that you could live only on this,
but it does supply a few parts of a good diet." She ate her plate
at a decent speed savoring the flavor, but as she was hungry she
didn't waste time.
"I don't know...some people are solely vegetarians. Being a dragon,
that's out of the cards. I couldn't give up meat even if I tried.
But this? Well...I think I'd like to try! I'm going to have to bake
something later! But first, we get to dig!" She said in between
bites. "I'm not sure if you want to sleep in your room yet. I don't
have spare furniture but we can move pillows and stuff in their for
you if you want to sleep in there. I also left you a gift in there.
I think you'll like it. And I really want you to have it."
Melez chuckled as Eona explained her eating habits. "I think I'd
want to change back into my other clothes for that..." She said
before glancing down at the fine dress. "I wouldn't want to get
this dress dirty or risk ripping it." She giggled, realizing that
for the first time in her life she was concerned about an article
of clothing. She set down her fork to focus all her attention on
the dragon across from her. "A gift? I'd like anything you gave me,
but," She paused midsentence as she tried to figure out exactly how
to say what she was thinking. "But sharing your home with me is a
very valuable gift already... Saving my life and so on... You don't
have to give me a gift..." She was trying her best to not sound
like she didn't want it and not hurt her friend's feelings.
Eona nodded. "That's fine. I cleaned our clothes earlier so your
clothes are set for you. As for this gift, it's less of a gift of
material stuff. It's a practical gift that might help us in the
future. I don't want to say and ruin it but I think you'll like it.
And if you don't then I'll figure something out that is better
suited for you. I was going to ask to charm something of yours so
it wasn't something more you'd have to carry but then I had an idea
and I thought it was perfect! But if it isn't and you still would
prefer I charmed something else, that is okay. It's a way to keep
in contact with each other should we need it. Not a phone, those
can be unreliable. This way is magic and won't fail."
"I'll do a quick clean up here with the dishes then we can go
digging okay?" Melez asked as she stood, taking the plates to the
sink and beginning to wash them. "I told you already, I will love
any gift you give me. Though don't feel obliged to give me things
all the time." She glanced over her shoulder and winked at her
friend. "I apologize if I react badly to a gift... I'm just very
unused to accepting gifts. It's been a long time since I've gotten
a gift, so I ask you to bear with me as I learn again..." She sighs
as she leans against the counter. It had been at least a year since
she had gotten a gift. She didn't stay in one place for long enough
to develop relationships with anyone to receive one.
Eona smiled and began to put stuff away. "It's okay. I haven't had
anyone to give things to for a long time. Actually, I haven't had
anyone to give things to. So you'll have to bear with me and my
need to gift," she giggled. "I will try to be good and not gift you
everything." She moved to the sink so she could rinse and dry the
dishes before putting them away. "Changing is a good idea...I think
I will change too." Once all the dishes were cleaned and returned
to their homes, Eona set off toward their rooms.
Melez chuckled slightly as she followed Eona towards the bedrooms.
"We can work together on that I suppose... The gift giving and
receiving that is." She was mentally facepalming as she shook her
head as she had realized as she spoke that her words were not going
the way she wanted them to go. "Though I would like a little help
at least starting to undo this zipper... I can't quite reach it..."
She didn't notice it, but her face was just a little bit more red
than normal.
"Oh! Yes," Eona exclaimed, having forgotten that Melez might need
help getting out of the dress. "Here," she said, turning to help
get the zipper down enough so Melez could unzip the rest of it.
"There, now you'll be able to get out of that dress. Alright, this
door here is yours," Eona told her, pointing to the new door next
to her bedroom. "I haven't added a shower yet but I can do that
tomorrow. I've just got to get the parts. It'd work the same as
mine does. For now, we'll have to share, sorry."
Melez nods as she let her head fall forwards a little so her red
hair didn't get caught in the zipper. "Thanks," She said in a quiet
voice as she looked off to her room. "I'll get changed quickly."
She chuckled as she entered her room and looked about the newly
carved addition to the cavern. Oh my... This would have taken me
weeks to dig out... She did it in a matter of minutes! She
thought to herself as she walked about examining every inch of the
space, having momentarily forgotten the reason for her being
inside.
On top of the pile of her clothes was a note. On the paper lay the
necklace Eona had bought earlier in the day. The note itself read:
Dear Melez, I would like you to have this small treasure. I
thought it looked like me in my dragon form so I thought it'll be
perfect to carry with you. Like you've got your friend with you
even if we end up on opposite ends of the earth. It has a duel use
though. I have charmed it so that if you need to find me, you
simply need to tell it my name and start walking. It'll glow when
you go the right way. Also, if you need to talk to me, all you have
to do is hold it and start talking. I'll here you and be able to
reply back. Sincerely, Eona
Eona walked into her room and into her closet. Carefully, she took
off her corset then the rest of her outfit. Pulling out a pair of
pants, she pulled them on. A black t-shirt followed. Then she went
into the bathroom to brush her hair and put it in a braid before
coming back out to wait for Melez.
Melez gingerly picked up the note and held it in a hand, focusing
on the necklace her chest tightening. "Oh..." Was all she could
manage to say. She set the items down so she could get dressed
quickly in a similar outfit to the one she was wearing when she met
Eona. A simple pair of pants, an off white cloth shirt and a
leather belt that she made herself to keep the slightly roomy pants
up. She picked the note back up and started out reading very
quickly, but had to slow down due to the fact that her tears were
fogging her vision. She sniffled as she read the words, feeling
something touching her deep within her long forgotten and neglected
heart. Her mind leapt back to the last time someone gave her
something like this. It was just after he gave her the item that he
died in her arms. Not only was the man she felt could be her
brother dead, but later that day the item he gave her was stolen.
Her knees began to shake and soon they crumbled beneath her weight
feeling as though she had large chains over her shoulders and a
lead ball for a heart. She held the note in one hand and the
necklace in the other. After a moment of being lost in memory she
locked them up in the recesses of her mind as she got back to her
feet, the bare pads making little sound as she walked out of the
room and over to Eona throwing her arms around the shorter female
in a gentle, but firm embrace. "Thank you..." She whispered, the
lines of tears on her cheeks that had begun to dry were given a new
coat of water.
Eona blinked, surprised. Her arms wrapped around her friend and she
rubbed Melez's back. "I didn't mean to upset you. I hope it's okay.
I hope it's not too much for you. I thought you could keep it in a
pocket or something. If you want, I could charm it so that it'll
never get lost. So that if it does, it'll just return to a pocket
or something," Eona said. "You okay? Did something happen?"
Melez's arms tightened before relinquishing their grip around the
smaller framed figure as she stepped back, the wet trails down her
face drying again. "It's okay, it's more than okay... It's just,
I... It..." The once wet trails gained siblings as fresh trails
were made down her cheeks, the drips going down her jaw and landing
on her shirt. "I'm okay." She said after regaining the ability to
speak past the lump in her throat. "It simply reminded me of a
friend who gave me a gift like this... Then they, ehrm, left,
abruptly." She cleared her throat and looked down to the necklace
in her hands.
"I don't plan to leave you. Not if you're okay being here. Do you
want to talk about it? What happened? Would it help with the
memories?" she asked, taking Melez's free hand and squeezing it. "I
would like to help as much as I can. You're like my sister, my
clutchmate," Eona told her. She felt bad for clearly upsetting her.
While Eona was glad the necklace went over okay and Melez was going
to keep it, she knew she'd made her upset through memories.
Melez shakes her head, a couple rogue pieces of her red hair
falling out of place. "I'm so very happy to be here." She purses
her lips before continuing. "I-I doubt it would help the memories,
but it might help you to better grasp me and who I am... If you'd
want to listen that is." She smiled softly. "Clutchmate? I like the
sound of that." She chuckles. "A half angel and demon is a dragon's
clutchmate, now that is interesting." Her chuckling turned into a
couple of laughs. "If you'd be okay with it, I'd like to leave it
in my room as we do the digging, I don't want it getting broken or
lost." She said wiping the dried tracks on her face.
"I would love to listen so long as you're alright to tell me. Yes,
you are my clutchmate! At least in my heart you are," Eona told
her, smiling. "And of course you can! I'll be right here. You can
keep it anywhere you'd like." She leaned against one of the walls
in the hall, glad to have made her laugh.
