"Piplup, keep moving around and try to dodge it! You will not be able to see where it is or where it's coming up, so dodging at the last minute is not an option; just keep moving as quickly as you can!" Ferris commanded. Piplup did so, as Ferris explained to it that Monferno would take time to get to the surface, albeit not a very long time, so unless it could predict where Piplup would be by the time it could finish - not just where Piplup was when it started surfacing - Piplup would be in a different place from where it appeared.

"Piplup, Peck as soon as you can!!" Ferris commanded. There was no hope to dodge Mach Punch, so Piplup would take the hit either way; he might as well let Piplup take advantage of the close proximity.
