You walk through a large metal fence gate, looking around curiously. Flowers of all sizes and colors grow, but it's mostly the sugar cane in abundance that catches your attention. You walk along a dirt path through the thick sugar cane, and suddenly a tiny creature, perhaps the size of your fist, whizzes by, startling you. It comes to a stop in front of your face, hovering and watching you with small black eyes before whizzing off, its wings beating swiftly and making some odd tinkling sound. Powder floats to the ground behind it.

You head deeper, and you spot many of the same creatures, and soon you realize that the powder is actually powder sugar, and when you cautiously taste some, it's delicious.

Suddenly a house comes into view and you head towards the door when it opens, revealing a young girl of perhaps fourteen. She waves cheerfully. "I'm Kasumi. Are you here to adopt a Sugar Fairy?"

Sugar fairies are small round creatures born from pure sugar. After a stalk of sugar cane has been growing for ten years, a tiny sugar fairy about the size of your thumbnail will emerge, and it'll continue growing for ten to twenty years, depending on how well it's raised.
They come in all different shapes and sizes and colors, but all will spread fine powdered sugar when it beats its wings. Oddly, the sugar fairies make a bell like tinkling sound when they fly.
