•Introduction•

So, recently the Staff of the site DeviantArt has made it fairly clear that they do not care if our art gets stolen. They have basically said that "our art is not real" and that if "someone takes it and uses it without permission it is not art theft."

Check this out for more info on the matter.

Due to this, many people have been leaving DeviantArt, and having their accounts deactivated since they are afraid of art theft. DeviantArt was a pretty good site to share and post art on, and probably one of the most popular. Now after all these people have left DeviantArt, we are having trouble finding a new place to upload and display our art.

Many art uploading sites are for professionals, or have been taken down or are inactive. Marikot and I were looking for some, but we couldn't really find any nice ones that were just meant for art.

•The suggestion•

A few others and I were thinking that it might be a good idea to have our own separate place on PH where we can actually upload our own art. The website Chicken Smoothie has something similar to this, called an Oekaki Board. Although an Oekaki Board lets you draw something before you upload it, this would just let you upload art.

I do realize we have the Art Forums, but these do not actually let you upload art. Just display it and have things such as art shops.

I was thinking this part of PH could be on a separate page, somewhat like the Pokeheroes Wiki.

This would be a place where only PH users could post their art. Of course all PH rules would still apply here, so no one could upload anything that's not safe for any age, and art theft would be highly prohibited.

•How this applies to Pokeheroes•

I know that this is technically supposed to only be a Pokemon browser game, but we have many artists here on site, and with tons of people quitting DeviantArt and not being able to find another nice/fairly trustworthy site to upload it on, this may hinder Art Forum activity.

Since Pokeheroes is a Pokemon site, I think that all the art uploaded onto this part of PH should have to be commissions for Art Shops on PH, and only commissions. Otherwise I don't feel like this would apply to PH much, which is honestly what I want it to be. A place for PH users and artists to upload their art.

I know many friends and I plan on deleting (or have already deleted) all their art off of DeviantArt, as to make sure no one can easily steal it. So I was certainly thinking a place similar to DeviantArt on PH would help with making sure that PH users have a fairly safe place to upload their art to.

I feel like the only major cons I can see to this is if it would cost money to implement it, how hard it would be to code/implement, and how much server space it would take up. I do not code, and I would have no idea if making a place to upload things would cost money, or how much money if it did, or how hard it would be to code, or how much server space it would take up. But this is about all I think that could be bad about this.

Q: Furret. Why exactly do we need this?
A: I am not saying we do, I am just saying that I think it would be a nice feature to add, due to many artists who now need a place to upload their art to since DeviantArt is no longer a "safe" place.

Q: Would Pokeheroes become the new DeviantArt?
A: No, no. I am not trying to turn PH into an art uploading site, no. I just think it might be a nice thing to add for the many artists on PH who just lost their trust in the place they uploaded their art to.

I know this is not necessarily needed on PH, so I can understand if this is rejected, but I thought it was a nice thing anyways and worth a shot.

The biggest con you missed is actually one we already have issues with - server space.

We might actually need a whole other server for something like this because of the amount of info/space that this would take up

Total support. I think the only thing is that we should have different sections for each type of art.
This is considering that some people will make sprites, while others will make OC's.

I also read the latest news on Deviantart and that is pretty disappointing,I can use other file sharing site for example 4shared.comto share my art and can make the file (of my art) private any time I want,but It won't help me in putting my art in Display.
Even tho it will take a whole new server(s) if this suggestion is implemented,but I like you Idea.

Yes, I believe that this new feature would take up a lot of server space.
Something we can do to help this, however, can be to hold a site wide fundraiser where we can sell PH merch of Emera Pokemon and characters. This may need some looking over to make sure it doesn't conflict with the Pokemon Company's views on copyright, unless we're given explicit approval from them.
Another thing we can do if we wanted this to be implemented is perhaps to get a staff member on board who can deal with the issues of the second server, maybe even a small group of staff members. After all, the staff team right now are probably bustling their butts with recoding the website to fix glitches, add new features, and maintain website wide stability.

However, I back this suggestion whole-heartedly. Thank you for trying to find a solution for us users of both Pokeheroes and Deviantart who now feel unsafe on Deviantart.

I totally support. I use Photobucket and it's pretty good to use but you can only upload it to PH. Things like recolored events or every art that contains event stuff from here are not allowed to use outside this site or upload it on another site (maybe a good suggestion to add). If we have a upload page we can do event art and its not off the site its still on the site. Full support and good thoughts!

A lot of the Art I was storing on DA was for this site anyway.
As for raising popularity for this and bringing more people to the site;
I'm going to Gen Con next week, I can spread the word, tell people about the site and try and bring more people around. I'm gonna be working too, I'm a Demo Agent, I'm gonna see and speak to HUNDREDS of people a day.

As for suggestions, we're probably going to need a few new mods to the pool. And they'd probably need some form of art know-how so that they can find thieves who slightly altar the pictures and claim it their own.
Maybe each user has a link to their own personal upload page to separate the entries from each other a bit, and a main area where we can go to just browse. Maybe an option when you upload a piece to put it up for sale, sending a ping to your notifications when someone presses a button on the piece with their offer on it, if that makes any sense.

Actually, I was thinking of using a whole other server provider to reduce costs for PH. Using a free hosting site such as 000webhost would be quite good- since they have decent storage space and supports PHP, MySQL, HTML and other languages. I'm pretty sure that'd be better than causing PH any additional costs.

It'd be nice if the coders on PH got together and helped develop the hosting website.

From what I know, this would take up a lot of space in the server.
But in my opinion, this site is for Pokemon. Even though there's lots of artists here, it's still a Pokemon adoptable site. I don't think that the kind of users who are here need to change the purpose of this site.

I'm in the same situation as other artists, and left Deviantart.
But there's lots of other art sites you can go on like Pinterest, Tumblr and Pixiv. (Pixiv is mostly for people who have some knowledge on Japanese, or the art style, but it's still a nice place). I have a Pixiv account and I can tell you that it's a nice site.

And technically, it's the people's choice if they leave Deviantart or not.

I don't really see why Riako needs to (potentially) spend money on upgrading the server for a feature that isn't really related to adopting Pokemon, when there are already lots of different sites to do with art. It's better if he spent the money and implemented features related to PH. (For example the Emera Beach which Riako hinted in his feed). That would benefit the site more, since it would interest a large variety of people. This art thing will not interest everyone as some people cannot draw/do not like drawing/in general, not interested in artwork.
