She walks to the door. "Wherever I travel I always try to find a
quiet, peaceful place. The field sounds like a wonderful idea." She
holds the door open for him.
Caelum walked out of the shop, smiling back at Melez. "Follow me!"
he exclaimed and started walking on the side of the street, taking
a few turns here and there. "It's a bit far away," he muttered,
though he kept going. Finally, he saw a stretch of grassy land and
smiled widely. It was part of the town that looked as though it
wasn't surrounded by buildings. Caelum completely forgot that
someone was following him for a few moments and ran forward to the
grass, relishing the way it tickled on his feet. "It's so nice
here!"
As Caelum runs he passes by Melez who is laying in the grass.
Somehow she got past him and had time to lay in the grass. "Yes, it
is very nice here! This reminds me of another field I was in a few
years ago... Except the grass there was blue..." She stares at the
sky watching the clouds.
"Blue grass?" Caelum asked, looking at Melez. "That's odd... But it
sounds pretty!" Caelum imagined a field of blue grass and chuckled.
"It looks so weird in my head!"
Blake left the tavern and took a walk through the town. He jumped
to a nearby roof to see further. ''looks like there's nothing
interesting'' he mumbled, and sighed. ''though that town looks to
be really close'' he thought, and hid in the shadows. ''I'll take a
look there'' he thought, and went there through the shadows
She laughs, "It wasn't weird, it was beautiful! Imaging a sea of
blue grass waving in the breeze, and if you laid in it... The sky
would blend with the grass and would look like a world of blue..."
She sighs, "It was amazing..."
Caelum nodded. "That does sound beautiful... I guess my brain isn't
good enough to picture that in that way, though..." he paused and
sighed. "It blended with the sky? So it was light blue, right?" He
looked over at Melez.
She sits up and looks at him nodding. "The grass was light blue...
And when the sun set and you were at the edge of the field... It
looked so contrasting... Like the sky was on fire!" She smiles, "If
you spend enough time with me you'll develop your imagination..."
She chuckles.
She lays back down. "Perhaps... It is a long way from here... There
are people there who don't like me... And, well... If they see
me... They, well, lets just say they wouldn't be happy to see
me..." She sighs.
"I like dogs... and cats... I think hawks are pretty. Um, yeah..."
Caelum said, scanning the depths of his memory in an attempt to add
more. "I like a lot of baby animals..." he added, looking around.
"And caterpillars."
"Hawks? Hmm..." She stands up and walks over to him looking around.
"Can you keep a secret Caelum?" She kneels in front of him with a
serious tone on her face.
Caelum nodded, his face reflecting her serious expression. "Yes."
He looked into Melez's eyes quietly, making sure that she knew how
honest he was being when he said that he could keep a secret. He
faintly remembered his mother telling him that this was the best
way to be taken seriously.
She stands up. "I have something to show you..." She turns towards
the town looking for something. She turns towards the nearby forest
at the edge of the field. "Come on..." She says as she walks
towards the forest.
Caelum followed close behind, looking up at Melez. "Where are we
going?" he asked, glancing back in front of him periodically to
make sure he wouldn't run into anything.
Melez keeps staring straight ahead as she enters the forest. "No
one else can know... This is a secret... But I feel... For the
first time in a while... I can trust you..."
Caelum felt a smile forming on his face. It was a serious moment,
but to know that someone trusted him made him happy. He struggled
to keep a straight face and eventually the surge of joy vanished,
and he returned to his quiet walking. He kept following Melez in
silence, nodding a bit to acknowledge her words.
Suddenly she stopped in a small clearing in the woods. She took a
deep breath and the back of her shirt began to move. And it began
to swell, as though it was inflating or something was pushing from
the inside. With a ripping sound, two large wings emerge from her
back. A deep red, with stripes on them. Reminiscent of a hawk's.
She turns to see his reaction.
