Jack wordlessly got on the dragon, deciding that now was not the time to get into a conversation regarding the limitations of human hosts. He certainly didn't intend to walk, that was for sure.

Didact looked at the Immortal. "Perhaps." he muttered, sinking down against a wall and holding his head.

"Would you be willing to bet the world on it?"

"The world isn't mine to bet. Unfortunately, I could make a case that it currently belongs to my parents. And they certainly don't seem to mind." Copper replied. She settled Glaurug on the floor, before sinking next to Glaurug. "You must have been born... Near the end of the War. Or after... Or maybe a long time before. But I think it was after. Is that right? I could be wrong. I'd love to be wrong."

Faith spread her wings, and took to the air. It was cold and annoying, but she pushed through it.

Didact groaned.

"Do you have any idea how much it pains me that they had me in exile and stasis during the most important war in Forerunner history?" he muttered. "The thought of me sleeping away while my people crumbled..." he lifted his head to rest it against the wall.

"I suppose it is... awkward with the present company but, rightfully, I should have been leading those armies." he said, eyes closed.

"All the same now, isn't it?"

Copper chuckled, although there was a decidedly morose note to it. "You were lucky not to see. If you had been leading the Forerunner armies, as Ur-Didact had been, you would have been tortured and then killed once you'd lost all reason. Every vein set on fire and drowned in ice. His mind did not survive, and they made it a point to show me what happened to those who fought for my cause."

"Sister was... not a particularly merciful person back then. I'm glad she has since mellowed out considerably. I know your sense of duty tells you otherwise, but your presence now is more appreciated than it would have been by your people."

She gave him a playful wink. "After all, your main duty is to me." She sobered up. "Ah, that sounded highly narcissistic."

Faith landed on the peak, looking around to see the bulk of Cortana's forces and the single Guardian.

"...so, is there anything I can eat?"

Didact gave a small huff of laughter. "Perhaps." he muttered.

"I mean... how willing are you to put up with indigestion?" Jack asked, even as Cortana turned to face the new arrivals with a smile and the Cryptum lifted into the air to hover closer to the Guardian.

"We were just getting ready to leave." Cortana said. "I think I have you to thank for rendering the Guardian here useless?"

"But who else would you thank?" Sliuril replied, sliding off of Faith's back. She glanced around. "Where's Copper?"

Faith huffed. "Point taken."

(Cortana should leave just about now.)

Cortana smiled as a slipspace rupture appeared in front of the Guardian. The massive construct drifted into the rupture, closely followed by the Cryptum. As soon as the portal closed, the Knights began disappearing, one by one. Jack got a quick spell off towards Cortana, but by the time it reached where its target had been, the Knight, along with the projection of the AI, was already gone.

"Damn." he muttered.

"That's one way to put it." Sliuril groused. She felt another Cryptum approaching in the distance. "I think Beowulf is coming - Faith, go greet him. I need to track this slipstream while it's still fresh."

Faith grunted, flying out to meet the craft. it was still ten or so minutes away by the time she reached it.

In the Cryptum, Copper felt them enter slipspace. "Did you feel that? She didn't take Sliuril or the others. Cortana must know she can't take them, even with a Guardian." She scowled. "But five might do the trick."

Beowulf dropped the ramp as Faith approached. "Hello again." the AI greeted her somewhat cheerfully, calling up his avatar in the middle of the command space. "Is it wrong of me to assume that you weren't entirely successful on your mission? Only, I can't pick up the Didact's signature anymore and, well, you know how it is. Need to keep the roster up to date and all that. If you could, perhaps, see your way clear to confirming that he's dead...?" he said hopefully.

"That leaves some room for hope, at least." Didact nodded. "Unless... you know... she manages to gather five Guardians." he sighed, throwing his head back against the wall with a loud clang. The following 'ow' was in a very small voice.

She landed in front of Beowulf's avatar. "Ah, unfortunately we have no idea what happened. Sliuril is assuming that they are in Cortana's custody, so I can confirm that he is at least missing in action. At any rate, I think Sliuril means to commandeer the ship, anyways."

Sliuril sent a stream of energy into the rift. Normally, slipspace rifts worked much like portals. They weren't natural, and disappeared soon after use. However, a portal would have been entirely impossible to trace, while a rift tended to stay open a few minutes longer. Just enough time for Sliuril to send some energy through and wrench it open.

There was nothing on the other end - just a barren blue landscape, graced by a purple sky. Sliuril growled, and the rift turned into what could have passed for a portal. "I can't keep this open for very long - Jack, it will have to be just the two of us."

"Oh. Yay. Do you reckon she'll be any nicer than him?" The AI asked unenthusiastically, marking the Forerunner MIA.

Jack nodded. "Very well." he muttered. Not wasting any time, the demon passed through the portal.

"If it makes you feel any better," Faith said as she flashed her fangs in a smirk, "We're currently on vacation. She decided to pursue the Guardian and Cortana alone, since they seem to be travelling though space, and not all worlds have an atmosphere like this one does. I may be a Guardian, but I still need to breathe oxygen. Sliuril doesn't."

Sliuril collapsed the portal behind her. She could find Earth easily enough through her new connection with Faith. The dragon was a bright presence in her awareness, for all means constantly there. It took her a moment to get used to the not-breathing aspect of being on this odd planet, but she had adapted to worse before.

"Since she is using the slipspace, Cortana will take another half hour." Sliuril said. "We can rest and recover now."

"Oh? Yeah. Yeah, that does make me feel better." Beowulf said, his red eyes glowing brightly under the hood for a second before fading to nothing once more.

Jack simply stopped breathing, since he mostly did it for theatrical effect and being able to fully exploit the usefulness of overly-dramatic sighs. "That's good." he nodded, looking around. "Do you happen to have any idea where we are?" the demon asked. "Only, the colour scheme on this planet?"

He made a quick cutting motion across his neck with a hand.

"It's a no from me."

"I know what you mean." Sliuril said. "This place just seems... Too dreamy? Something like that." She said. At the very least, the ground was solid. If Copper had hidden anything in Jupiter, they would have been floating. "We're around three hundred thousand lightyears from the milky way galaxy. it's not too far away. I believe the Precursor civilization reached slightly further out than this, perhaps another hundred dozen or so lightyears."

"Good to know." Faith replied, settling down. "Feel free to do whatever. I'll just be here to sleep."

"I'm sure she'll have a hard time doing that." Copper replied. "There are only seven, and she already destroyed one." She reassured.

"Ah." Jack said, slipping into the Sight. "Interesting." Nothing, save Sliuril, pierced the fog and the darkness.

He shrugged and, because the dark and misty shadowscape streaked with dull outlines shimmering in and out of existence was quite inviting to him at the moment, sat down to stare at the thin silver line which marked the horizon in the Sight, neatly bisecting the darkness.

Didact nodded. "That's good." he sighed and then gave a short, rueful laugh. "So this is that 'luck' they were talking about earlier, huh?" the Forerunner muttered.

Beowulf shrugged. "Make yourself comfortable."

"It probably is." Copper said, looking up at the ceiling. She chose to stay silent until the Cryptum gave a shudder - "We've exited Slipspace. And if I'm not mistaken, then Sliuril and Jack are also here, waiting for Cortana." Glaurug, on the floor in front of them, twitched.

Copper raised an eyebrow. "I see you're awake."

He grunted, and struggled to get to his feet.

"I wouldn't recommend it, we're not needed here, not yet."

"Cortana." Sliuril muttered, looking up at the Guardian's disturbing face.

Jack stood up and dusted himself off, alternating between his normal senses and the Soul Sight, his eyes flashing like dim strobe lights. He didn't bother to mask them. "And how do we intend to play this?" he asked, his head tilting slightly to follow the Guardian's flight.

"Hey. Good to see you back up. But, yes, stay down." Didact nodded to Glaurug.

"It doesn't seem like she's going to engage us." Sliuril replied, tracking the Guardian's flight path. She briefly linked with Copper, eyes suddenly flaring with magic as she processed what her sister was sharing with her. "Cortana seems to wish a direct confrontation with us. At any rate, Copper estimates five Guardians as the minimum force required to take us on. We should be able to disable the one here easily enough, and Copper has shared the location for the remaining five."

Glaurug gave a sorry grunt. Copper rolled her eyes. "Sliuril is going to engage the Guardian." She said, getting up. A swipe in the air activated an interface window. "In the meantime, we are going to get out. Consider them the distraction."

"Oh, we're breaking out of a Cryptum?" Didact asked, standing up. "If only you'd taught me how to do that... quite some time ago."

"Oh, lovely." Jack nodded, a spell weaving itself around his fingers. The other hand was drawing energy from the Sword's seemingly limitless supply.

"I hadn't met you, quite some time ago." Copper retorted. "I worked with the Builders, mostly."

"Or bossed them around." Glaurug commented.

"Crow, you know as well as I do that they couldn't have kept up with me."

"Sorry." Glaurug muttered, even as Copper was typing like mad into several displays. A few moments later, the Cryptum stilled to an immediate halt. It began going the opposite way immediately.

An explosion sounded outside.

Sliuril threw an explosion against the Guardian, lifting into the air. She had already prepared a follow up volley of magical missiles and quickly released those, forcing Cortana to regard the two.
