Sinai before and had not the slightest clue as to what it might look like expect for, if he extrapolated, big and rocky. If he had really wanted to push the limits of creative thinking, he might have put a bit of snow in his mental picture as well. There also didn't seem to be any obvious sign that there was a world-ending machine beneath the mountain. He briefly wondered what such signs might be, but quickly decided that he'd know them when he saw them.

"Heh. Told you it was gonna come in handy." Glaurug crowed.
"Save your gloating for afterwards, Glaurug." Copper replied, although if one were to look closer they would see a smile on her face. She was rapidly typing into the interface. Seconds later, the hill itself rumbled. It was as if a massive eartquake was shaking the region. Faith snorted, disturbed, and took to the air.
"Copper, what are you doing?"
"Just deactivating the Guardian, sister."
"Is this supposed to happen?"

"Let her do her thing." Jack said evenly. But the fact of the matter was that he didn't have a clue what Copper was doing and that made him uncomfortable. He held the Sword a little tighter.

"That's because this isn't a deactivation!" A voice cried out, female but metallic. The air around them shimmered and a single Guardian folded out of slipspace.
Copper raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, that is quite definitely not supposed to happen."
"You think?" Sliuril shouted as the ground around them began to crack. Before she could say anything else, or attempt to contain the situation, the ground beneath their feet fell apart, and they were plunged into darkness.
Faith shrieked as she dove down to grab Sliuril, Glaurug doing the same. She grabbed Sliuril out of the air and flared her wings, but before she could ascend a large chunk of rock slammed into her back. Faith's wings seized and they fell.
Glaurug had more luck dodging the falling rock to snatch Copper from the air, only for her order to force him downwards-
"Down! We have to get to them!" Copper shouted, giving no explanation as to who 'them' referred to. Glaurug, though, obediently tucked in his wings and dove for Sliuril.

Jack, seeing that Glaurug was already headed down once more, pushed himself to go as fast as he could without smashing into rocks and quickly closed the gap between himself and the falling figures. He muttered a brief spell to slow the dragon down, so that he could slow down as well and actually grab one of them instead of slam into them at full speed.

"The Guardian." Sliuril muttered. "Jack, we have to find a way to disable it."
Copper cursed as the ground closed. She whirled on Cortana with the Guardian she'd activated - "What did you destroy to get your newest toy?" Cortana demanded.
Glaurug looked around. "Hey, all in favour for running away? We're outgunned."

"Maybe, maybe." Didact replied to Glaurug. But the idea sat uncomfortably with him. "How likely is it that your friends are dead? Because if there's a chance they're still down there, we stay here for as long as we can. No, perhaps we can't fight that thing, but we can try to weather it out for a while."

"I'm glad you realize." Cortana purred. A craft remarkably similar to the Cryptum that belonged to Didact flew to land in front of them. "So. Will you surrender peacefully, or will I have to utilize the Guardian's combat suite?"
"On the count of three, we hit it with everything we have." Sliuril muttered, instantly drawing on the cold of the mountains outside and the heat of the reactor itself. She focused her power into a single spell, one designed to destroy as much as possible. Faith did the same, her magic feeding into the array that appeared above their heads. "One."
"Two." Faiths eyes began glowing as she poured more energy into spell. The array was luminous now, casting light across the large chamber and illuminating the whole of the guardian.
"Three."
Without realizing it Sliuril began tapping into the Key in her pocket dimension, and siphoning magic from there and into her spell.
They released.

The light merely grew brighter.
Didact brought his gun around to bear on the ship that bore down on them. He knew it was a futile gesture, but his training as a Warrior-Servant wouldn't let him handle the situation any other way. Quite suddenly, he stumbled as the entirety of the mountain began shaking once more, with greater intensity.

Glaurug shifted uncomfortably.
'Go." Copper muttered. He gave her a despairing look. She raised an eyebrow. "Now's not the best time for doubt, crow."
Glaurug nodded, and disappeared, leaving a bright trail of orange to mark his path. Not a second later one of the hostile knights exploded. Then another, and another. Strong winds bufetted Copper, but she paid them no mind as she drew her guns.
Cortana may have had control of a Guardian, but triggering the EMP - it's most powerful function - would immobilize the Cryptum and her own Promethean knights. Thus, it's strongest weapon was all but disabled.
Sliuril glowed faintly with the power, spilling over into Faith as well. They were barely moved by the spell's shockwave, but she didn't fail to notice that Jack was a little low on energy. With barely a mental nudge she steered Faith to offer Jack a seat, nodding towards the senior entity. She was a little too preoccupied with what seemed to be a new mental link with the dragon, one that was stronger than their old bond as Guardian-Protectee. It took her a few moments to speak.
"We've still to get out of here." Sliuril pointed out. "So long as we remain in the air, there is no reason you cannot rest on Faith."

Didact saw Glaurug disappear in a blur of orange, saw Copper pull out her guns and decided that that was a good time to open fire. He levelled his Light Rifle at the Knights and started squeezing off shots, the beams landing in tight clusters. He quickly brought down one and moved to another. Almost without thought, he used his powers to pick up two Knights and sent them, flailing aimlessly, into their companions.

The cavern must have extended to the bedrock, that was how large this particular guardian was. The temperature had increased quite a bit by the time they reached the lower tip of its body, and they still had not located a definite exit. Sliuril had seen several tunnels their way down, but none of them seemed particularly wise to pursue, given their crumbling state.
I'm fact, given how deep this facility was, Sliuril had to say that it was an impressive thing that it was so well preserved.
"You must know resistance is futile." Cortana spoke, even as the Cryptum lowered it's ramp in obvious invitation. "Come on now. Just rest, and you'll awaken to a much better world, I promise."
Cortana didn't deign to reply. She was focused on shooting down as many of the offending knights as possible, crouched behind a smoking pile of metal. She was pretty sure it had been a crawler caught in one of Glaurug's explosions, but she couldn't be entirely sure.

Jack scoffed. "'Fine' is our natural state. When aren't we fine?" He looked down at the depths below them. Switching between the Sight and his normal senses didn't make too much of a difference. No way out was presenting itself to him.

"You're insane." Copper spat as she dispatched another Forerunner. "You think a moving piece of metal can even start to scratch the real gods? Call on their wrath, I dare you, and see if they don't answer."
"Point taken." Faith grunted. She gave the walls another look - still nothing but closed-off tunnels, as far as she could tell. There was no real air circulation coming from them, at the very least. Finally, they reached the top of the guardian's head once again, where fresh fissure marked the place they had fallen in front.
"Do you reckon we could blow our way out?" Sliuril mostly thought out loud. Surely not, with the way they had used up their energy disabling the Guardian.

"Sliuril, please. I have a headache. A headache. I'd sooner claw my way out of here than suffer a magical migraine." Jack muttered, rubbing his temples. "Honestly, even the Hero of Oakvale was less of a bother than this."

They came to a small tunnel, barely large enough for the Immortals to crawl through. It was certainly too small for Faith in her current size, so she would have to shrink after letting them off, before tailing them.
"Very well." Cortana said, a hint of almost-sadness creeping into her voice. "Will you not reconsider?"
Copper popped out of her cover and fired a grenade-like object at the Cryptum in reply. It exploded with a shower of orange sparks, atomozing everything within range, inculding a good portion of the Cryptum.

Didact gave a low whistle and knew he'd be a lot less confident in his own ship from now on. Whatever Copper had fired, he needed to get his hands on a supply of it as soon as possible. As it was, he felt that she had successfully driven home the point and resumed firing at the Knights.

Glaurug was snagged by one of the light rifle blasts. Going as quickly as he had been, he snapped out of trajectory and landed on the ground, kicking up a large pile of dust.
"Glaurug!" Copper yelled, moving towards him.
"Not so fast." Cortana retorted, her Promethean Knights surrounding the fallen Immortal. "Take one more step, and your pet dies."

Jack followed it up by a sigh of resignation. "Fine. Let's get this over with." he muttered. He considered saying something along the line of 'ladies first' but an especially painful throb from his head lead him to decide that it really wasn't worth the effort of saying it out loud. With that, the demon pulled himself into the tunnel and began making his way down it.
Didact kept his gun raised and glanced over at the Immortal next to him. "Copper?" he asked, trying to keep his eyes on the Knights, trying to make sure that the didn't get into flanking positions. It occurred to him, however, that he would be in no position to stop them if they tried.

"I know you're not under my command, but stand down." Copper replied, lowering her own gun. "Alright. We're listening." She said to Cortana.
