10/12/2024:

x2 Interaction Multipliers (caused by a full Lovemeter) now no longer conflict with a Speed Click Saturday. If an x2 day would occur on a SCS day, the x2 is postponed to the day after (Sunday) instead.

The Lovemeter target has also been decreased from 20 Million to 15 Million interactions. Enjoy!

21/12/2024:

PokeHeroes was down unexpectedly from 1PM to 3:30 PM yesterday. It is still unclear why the server simply stopped responding (a simple reboot helped), but I've set up advanced logging/monitoring now in case it happens again next time.

To compensate for this downtime, there will be an x3 interaction multiplier tomorrow, lasting all day long. Enjoy, and sorry for the inconvenience!

25/12/2024:

Last night, our server went down once again for a few hours. It came back at around 4AM but then crashed once again at 7:30AM.
The issue had been reported to our server hosting company. They found out that our server's mainboard was faulty and our entire server had to replaced. This is what caused the long downtime that lasted until 12:30PM today. Spent the whole morning communicating back-and-forth with our server company, until we eventually got all services up again.

Since the server has been replaced, I assume that this issue should not happen again.

The following compensations are in place due to this unforeseen and very unfortunate, long downtime:

- All premium memberships have been extended by 48 hours
- Tomorrow, there will be an x4 Interaction Multiplier lasting all day long.
- The day after (on Friday), there will be an x3 Interaction Multiplier
- On Saturday, our Speed Click Saturday will take place as planned
- And on Sunday, there will be an x2 Interaction Multiplier

05/01/2025:

Happy New Year, everyone! For those of you who do not know me, I'm Amuu! Newest member of the spriting staff team. You may know me from my Emeran Buizel/Floatzel and the current event Pokemon (Puddy, Puddoo and Puddra). This post is to shed some light on some sprite fixes that have been reported to us and amended as of today. Do note that you may need to clear your browser cache to view these (this can take up to a week to fix on its own)!

Firstly, the main bulk of the post: Furfrou. There were many issues reported for multiple Furfrou cuts, so I spoke to the Salon Lady and got her some brand new scissors! Below is a comparison of the sprites before and after their new makeovers!

On top of this, other sprite amendments include:

Genesect: Correct drive colours have been swapped back around, as well as all sprites now align correctly.
Tsareena: Her mistakenly red crown has been recoloured to match her legs.
Tropius (Oran): Some white stray pixels have been cleaned up.
Skugar, & Gingergoat: Empty patches have been filled, with some stray pixels being cleaned up.
Shadow Mewtwo: Some white stray pixels have been cleaned up, as well as all sprites now align correctly.

... and all retro & Hisuian Pokemon have their minisprites!

Please remember to keep sending in your sprite errors to us, as it's imperative we keep things up to scratch! We are continuing to work on other errors in the meantime, so please do not be shy to send in a bug report or message. Thank you!

18/02/2025:

A bug has been fixed regarding the Valentine's Event: Players had received Cupidfly eggs instead of Enamorous eggs this morning as the final reward. This has now been fixed and the obtained Cupidfly have been changed into Enamorous. Sorry for the mixup!

The accuracy of the guest counter has been strongly improved. Web and AI crawlers all operating from the same network (but with different IPs) are now counted as "1" guest instead of 1,000+.

07/05/2025:

"The" or "One" possible reason for recent lags has been fixed yesterday (and can now be confirmed "fixed" since --according to logs-- the problem hasn't occurred again in the past 24 hours).

Many of you might had noticed over the last few weeks that every few page refreshes/page changes, the site would suddenly take 3+ seconds to generate instead of the usual < 100ms.

Technical details, for dweebs:
Show hidden content
Every time you refresh the page or switch to a different page on PH, your "last activity"/online status is updated to the current time.

At the same time, we have the "Online users clicklist". And every time a user interacts via this clicklist, the server searches for users who've been online within the last 15 minutes, and collects a list of their Party Pokemon (which you haven't interacted with yet). This query is rather complex and takes a bit of time to compute. And that's perfectly okay. It uses smart prefetching and parallelism techniques so you oftentimes don't notice any delay.

The problem was, however: While fetching and generating the clicklist data, the database did not like that a concurrent user suddenly wants to update their "last online status". The database, while being busy fetching and processing all online users, did not allow for changes to happen simultaneously. Concurrent changes can lead to inaccurate results after all. Does the user who's online status changed right now count towards the clicklist or not? That's undefined behaviour, and thus the database just blocks the possibility to update data concurrently.

Simple fix: I told the database not to care about changes during the clicklist creation. After all, clicklists are not built for accuracy, they are built for performance. So if a user switches from online to offline, or from offline to online all of a sudden while someone else generates an "online users"-clicklist -- who cares! It is a completely unnoticeable difference.

But lag-free browsing is definitely noticeable.

Please note that there might still be lags for different reasons. I personally have experienced much more pleasant browsing today.

If you do notice unusual, frequent lags (i.e. not ones that only occur every 1000+ refreshes or every 5+ minutes, and not ones that occur, for example, the first time you log in after long activity or the first time you load a clicklist after long inactivity), please report that in the bugs forum. For example, if still every 10-th page access or whatever on most pages of PH lags for 500ms/1s+, then feel free to write an appropriate report.
