The Shadows That Keep (Open and Accepting)
Forum-Index → Roleplay → The Shadows That Keep (Open and Accepting)4. It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
-Extract from Invictus, William Ernest Henley
"The potion inside is strong enough to pull even one of your kind from death's door, Didact. Use it well." Then she gave Daphila a strange necklace. "The necklace is laced with powerful charms. It will stop you from having more... unpleasant bursts of morphing." She gave Quill a dagger, though for what she did not say. She turned to Ateer and Cole, whom she scrutinized with her unfaltering gaze. "I know we have only met, but I have something for the both of you." She said, taking out a helmet for Ateer, and a pair of odd-looking gloves for Cole. "They will come in useful... in the future." She cryptically said. Galadriel once again took Nenya off and gave it to Skye. "It is yours now, Skye." She said, smiling in that strange way of hers.

The Didact caught it and stored it in his pack. "Thank you." he said, bowing his head in respect. He wondered what the liquid in the vial was, but he wasn't gonna try it out until he needed it. He checked it was safely in his pack and clipped the pack to his armor.

Skye nodded her head and took Nenya, using it on her own finger. She immediately felt refreshed, as if she had just awoken from a good night's rest. She could see more things as well. In fact, Skye was certain her senses had been sharpened into those of an Elf, at the very least. Galdriel stepped back, as she said, "I will be waiting at the western border." and then vanished into thin air.

The Didact called the Approach. It quickly came to the ground and slowed just before landing. The Didact boarded it, but paused to look at the others. "You flying, running or coming?" he asked.

"Neither, duh." Skye said, as she flapped her wings. "I have the two, remember? Besides, I've had enough being cooped up from our flight to Atlantis." She said, as she took flight with a flap of her wings, which simultaneously burst into flames. Many of the eagles approached the others, and offered the choice of a free ride.

"Fair enough." he said, getting to the control panel. "Get us to the western border of this rock." he said. "Aye, sir." The AI replied. The Didact sat down and watched the scene underneath the Approach via a view panel.

The eagles took flight, flying in a tight formation. Skye was nowhere in the sky. In fact, she was flying quite near to the ground, just above helpless bystanders and surprised witnesses, particularly a particular purple alicorn with magenta eyes. The eyes traced Skye's energy level. The alicorn took flight, remembering vividly the magical signature which had broken her shield. Whoever Skye was, the alicorn wanted to know.

"Activate Active Camouflage. They might be used to weird things, but probably not not used to a giant black and orange ball flying through the sky." The Didact said. Wordlessly, the AI turned the Approach more or less invisible to onlookers.

An eagle gave a sharp cry as it began to hover near the sea serpent, waiting for orders to engage the monster in combat. Skye clenched her fists, as a pair of fireballs formed. She was prepared to roast the sea serpent if need be.

"Err... now what?" asked the Didact. The sea serpent hadn't moved yet and he didn't want to make it unnecessarily aggressive. He had to resist the urge to blow it to high hell.

The sea serpent didn't move. It didn't make much of a sound, either. It stood there, unmoving save for it's eyes, which looked everywhere.
