"Gee, thanks. But I don't think I should change my clothes here,
and now. I will change my clothes, after we reached Perryville,"
said Cassius to Evangelina, hoping that he never change his
clothes, when Evangelina was around. Cassius is too bashful,
sometimes.
"It's okay, Lina. You don't need to stop this carriage. Besides, I
think Perryville is now closer, I can feel it. Even though I'm not
from Kentucky," Cassius said to Evangelina. "By the way, what is
the name of your mother?" Cassius questioned to Evangelina.
Evangelina shook her head and looked up at him, smiling. "Sally,
Mama's name is Sally. But I don't know how she'll react. A lot of
the people there might try to hurt you before I can explain. When
we get there, can you change before we go inside? I don't want
anything to happen that people will regret."
"I agree, Lina. I wish nobody seeing me, wearing this outfit. I
don't want any other people to see me and bashing me, because I'm a
Confederate."
"Is Midnight going to be okay? I think, he or she," Cassius still
doesn't know Midnight's gender, "is exhausted, because he or she,
walked for how many hours. Is he or she, will be okay?" said
Cassius to Evangelina, worried about her horse, Midnight.
"He should be good. I've kept him going slow so that he doesn't
tire himself out," Evangelina told Cassius. "He is used to helping
my dad out on the fields, so this is probably so boring for
him."
Midnight whinnied and set off quicker, headed towards the road that
lead to Lovelace mansion.
Evangelina nodded, "We are! He must be excited to get home. We have
about ten minutes before we get to my house. Should we stop here so
you can change?"
Evangelina was worried about that. But she thought she could sneak
him up into her room before anyone saw. Midnight had reached her
house and Evangelina had Midnight stop close to the wall near the
vines that she used to sneak out of her window when she went to go
help nurse. She got out of the carriage and after Cassius was out,
she sent Midnight on to the stables.
"Alright, how well is your climbing skills?" Evangelina asked
Cassius
"Honestly, I really don't know how to climb, but I'll try my very
best, Lina."
Cassius climbs, but he falls on the first attempt. On his second
attempt, he falls, but this time, it's very high. Then, he climbs
on his third attempt...
Cassius reached the highest point and went to a window. He puts his
backpack, takes off his clothes and wears the clothes which
Evangelina gave him, while they were in a carriage.
"What? Lina, what is he talking about?" Serafina asked.
Evangelina explained to Sera what had happened. Then she walked
over to Cassius and hugged him. She smiled up at him.
Serafina looked at Evangelina in Cassius's arms and laughed. "You
look like you have made Lina happy. I'm still weary about slave
owners. But from what it looks like, I think I can learn to trust
and befriend you, Cassius."
