The Wild Ones Wild Horse Rp (Open And Accepting)
Forum-Index → Roleplay → Inactive RPs → The Wild Ones Wild Horse Rp (Open And Accepting)A band, or herd of horses consists of a single stallion and a few mares and foals. Once a colt becomes two years old, they are kicked out of their herd to prevent inbreeding. When a filly turns two, either their dams will encourage them to leave or they will leave when they go into heat.
Lead mares are not the stallion's favorite and are not chosen by the stallion. The lead mare is the most dominant mare, usually the oldest though younger mares can fight the lead mare for the position. Lead mares can push other mares and foals around, they get to drink first from water holes, lead the herd to new places and even kick out mares that they do not like. They are above the lead stallion in dominance, they lead the herd while the stallion protects, covers and adds more mares into the band.
Horses are flight animals, stallions only fight if their herd is being threatened by another stallion. If there were a fire or wranglers and a horse was captured, another horse wouldn't go to the wrangler and fight them as they would be too scared to and would only be thinking about escaping though they will fight if their foal is threatened.
A Bachelor is a stallion who does not have a herd and will often try to court and snake lone mares or mares from another herd. Stallions don't often start herds until they are at least 5, when they are strong enough to keep a few mares and will stay with other bachelors until they gain a mare.
Snaking is when a stallion lowers his head, pins his ears and runs behind the mares, sometimes nipping but is mostly just running close to them. This causes mares, foals, and sometimes even younger stallions to move in a certain direction and is used to bring a herd to another place or to steal mares from a herd. Mares always to go where the stallions want them to go and will hardly fight back, but when they do there is not much they can do since stallions are stronger and can usually get them to go to a certain area quickly and easily. This is used when moving their herd or bring a mare to the herd. Snaking is very normal and mares do not hate stallions for doing it.
Herds may consist from 1-6 mares but it is possible to have larger herds.
Lone horses cannot survive in the winter and must be with others, either in a herd or in a band of bachelor stallions or they will surely die.
Though it is not common, a stallion will sometimes kill a foal if it is not their's or if they sense that there is something wrong with it. They do this to make sure only their bloodlines will spread and if the foal has a disability then it will keep the herd from moving slower than it should.
Older mares that can no longer produce foal's will sometimes try to steal foals from other mares. If this happens, a stallion can't and will not do anything about it. The mother can try to take her foal back, but if she fails the foal will die.

It is Currently Summer
S p r i n g
Warm in the day and cool in the mornings and nights. Sometimes it may even rain. Mares are in heat and stallions are more aggressive, breeding with their mares and stealing mares from other herds. Mares might even be foaling, a week after this they can be recovered and carry a new foal for the next year

Days are getting longer and nights are shorter. The temperature is rising Mares are still in heat Stallions are still in the search of more mares. There is no more rain and the sun is always shining.
A u t u m n
It is starting to get cooler and it might even rain. Mares are rarely in heat at this time. By the end of Autumn some foals may be born
W i n t e r
Days are shorter and nights are longer. The temperature is cold and blankets of snow will cover the land. Some foals may be born in the beginning or end of winter. Can be a dangerous time as it is extremely cold and some herds are even wiped out. Stallions rarely fight and mares are never in heat during this time.
The Lands
River & Forrest - The river and Forrest have the most coverage. However it is also a good place for predators to hunt, and there is mostly only ferns and short grass here.
The Valley - The valley is surrounded by mountains and is grassy and holds the best food. Most horses live here or congregate here.
The Cove - The cove is a hard to get to place surrounded by rocks, though the beach has lush green grass growing around it and is a prized place for horses to live.
Water Holes/Lakes/Streams - Water Holes are popular places for wild horses, especially during the summer. Bands will come here to drink, cool off and play in the water and fights may break out here if two bands meet. There are few lakes around though are not as popular and there are a few streams in the valleys and forests.
The Desert - Dry terrain with some things to graze on yet there is little water. Wranglers are sometimes seen here yet bands come anyways.
Ranches- Most of the ranches are quite far from where the wild horses roam but they are there, and occasionally a group of wranglers will leave their ranch in search of wild horses. It is unknown what happens to those captured and brought back to the one of the ranches, but it is wise to stay away.
Bait Traps - Bait traps aren't common, but there are a few set up. They are often near popular locations such as water holes and they are pens that have treats inside them to lure horses in. A human nearby will press a switch when horses step inside to close the gate, trapping them. Horses trapped inside are forced into a trailer and sent away.

Auraora is nice to both mares and stallions, though can be wary around stallions, only being nice to them if they don't force her into anything. She is friendly and it not at all shy, and if the lead she does her best to keep the herd safe.

Personality: Autumn is kind and caring, though she can have quite a terrible temper. She is also forgetful, and clumsy, which ended up giving her the nickname she despises, of "Fall"
History: Originally, Autumn was a lone horse. In the winter, she was found by a herd and since she realized she would probably die, she joined them, and that's where she has been since.
