Excuse me... I have a quick question I was wondering how do you evolve a pokemon into its' mega form? I have two of the newest Event pokemon and was wondering how is it started

You give them mega stone to hold and lvl up to 50.

Mega Evolving is pretty easy. First you need to have your mega-able pokémon above level 50 and its should be in its last evolutionary form.
After that you have to give your mega-able Pokémon to hold mega stone (which is veeeeery expensive) from bag. After that, level it up and it mega evolves. I haven't done it yet, so I may be missing one step or two but I got this information from here. Hope it helps.

Hi I'm relatively new to the game, and I wanted to ask if there is anyway for pokemon to evolve while in storage or a way to increase team slots and so on.

Pokémon can be interacted with in Storage Boxes, so they can evolve while in a box.

Followup question, do pokemon gain exp over time without interactions like in the party?

No, they need to be interacted with.
There are ways to give them EXP [Power Orbs, Rare Candy], but they each require action. There's no passive EXP-gain.
