The Cowardly Head Scientist

The head scientist looked at Athena and Julius, terrified. He opened his mouth to speak but one of his colleagues slapped their hand over his mouth, muffling him. Clearly the head scientist was very gullible and cowardly, and was prepared to spill all of the information. But the other scientists didn't. They wanted to keep the information a secret, especially away from Athena and Julius, and especially the cat. The cat had literally killed off fourteen of the scientists, and seemed to be prepared to kill more.

Ripping off the colleague's hand off his face, he started speaking, rushed. "Thesecretportalisinthebasement,andisalreadyon.Justgodownstairsandyou'llfindit."

Taro, hearing the location, immediately bolted downstairs, to the basement, where he found the portal.

Kaori had just woken up with a headache just as bad as the one from the day before. There was some sort of high-squeaky note playing in her ears, reminding her of some random memory in her head that involved loud hamsters. As she rolled over to her bedside table to check what time it was on her phone, a message popped up, saying that it was from hours ago. Kaori opened the message, and as she read it, she frowned. Many things were racing in her head: Dortitos? The location of the Rotting Heart? Obstacles?

Kaori looked at the message and reread it about three times, trying to make sense of it. The first time was mostly a skim, but there had seemed to be very important info in it, but it turned out to mostly be confusing. But it never was like Kaori was the smartest about technology and stuff like that. She preferred plants and gardening, but who cared these days?

After she reread through the message for the third time, she finally understood what most of it had meant. It meant that some mysterious sus person had refilled her groceries/supplies/etc and was practically giving her the location and a map, it was all being handed to her. But would she go? And did the others from yesterday all receive the same message? If so, were they all going?

Kaori wrote down all of her questions on a sheet of paper before she checked her bag of supplies which she always kept by the door for emergencies, and saw that it was full, which was once-in-a-blue-moon rare. She never had a good salary and money was very tight for her. But if her bag of supplies was indeed full, then the person who wrote that message wasn't joking at all. They were serious. And she would be too. But she needed to make a stop at the garden first. Plants always came first, after all. And anybody who said against it would get a large box of weeds in their face. Kaori was weird like that.

Driving in her not-fancy car*, Kaori drove to the garden where she quickly finished the weeding, and watered the plants. She turned on the automatic sprinkler and checked her phone again, the map of where the Rotting Heart was. She was going to need it for the possibly long road trip soon.

There was also a problem. If the others from yesterday had gotten the same message, then they would have to meet up. But where? It's not like they can randomly teleport to one spot at the same time. It was impossible. Completely impossible. And Kaori was saying that, and she is that one person who is open to almost any idea. And if she was saying that something was impossible, there's a chance that it is. Not like teleportation ever was possible though. Back to the topic. Kaori was sure that the others were also going, so they would need to meet up somewhere. But where was that one somewhere?

And Kaori? She was going, mostly out of curiosity and to thank the person who had bought her supplies. And because she was also planning a vacation, but this would substitute ~~like, totally nicely~~ alright.

*Not everyone has a fancy white Mercedes XD
