Jace Mawer (Nora)"Ah, ah! But that's where you're wrong. You can't tell that when I want to murder people I am actually at my most 'adorable'. And don't you worry about me! I'm not an oldie yet. Have you seen these biceps?" Nora flexed one, grinning at her. "Buff as hell! No one could take me down." That didn't mean her midsection wasn't burning right now, but hey, it wasn't like Andy had been all that specific to begin with. Nora whistled the 'Kill Bill' tune, tapping her foot to the rhythm. She was just about done when the train pulled up and she found a candy in her hand. "Hey, that's totally awesome of you! Thanks SDC. Cherry's the best flavour out there." She grinned at her. "Sure, sure. Promise. Now, you ready to take on our epic quest or what?" Niwa AtsushiThe three of them successfully left the Agency and were already on their way to the LRT. Niwa wished they could go just a bit faster. They'd already missed the early train. The next would leave at 10, which was... hmm, how many minutes away? He glanced at his watch and blanched. 9:58. "Uh... I think we need to get a move on. Like, right now." Adrik VolkovHead Detective Michon had a very hard look in his eyes. "No, it's not. Both of you, run along..." He paused. "And if you meet me along the way... keep running." Oh. Okay. Not terrifying at all. Adrik shivered, doing his best to subtly rub the goosebumps off his arms. [Read more] |

Setsuna JunMy Sutaraitsu, he repeated to himself. Mine. He wouldn't hurt me- he couldn't. Never. But the mantra sounded hollow, even in his head. Just because someone was supposed to love you didn't mean they would. His mother was proof of that. And me. With a start, he realised that he and Sutaraitsu... were out in the hallway. A crowd was up ahead. Kubo, Lucian, and a girl he'd never really paid attention to. She stood back now, watching the two as they hollered down into a... a hole? Huh. That was weird. "I'll do it," Kubo decided. "We'll tie together the curtains from the Drama Hall. They should form a stable enough rope." [Read more] |

Setsuna Jun"Area 51..." He hiccupped. "Yeah. We'll raid it." Setsuna wiped those stupid tears away and clasped Sutaraitsu's hand. "Come on. Let's go. We can find somewhere else to have our date... hey?" Kubo AtsushiAll three of them came to a stop by the pit. He couldn't believe Miyako, with all her stuck up-edness would've left Darcy down here. 'Decent person'? Who was she kidding? She was the scum of the earth. "Hey, Darcy!" he called. "You alive down there?" He glanced at Lucian. "We might have to climb down, if he doesn't respond." Jace Mawer (Nora)They were fast, but no match for Jace Mawer, once quarterback of the University of Trydanfaid! She tackled them to the ground and they yelped as the two rolled over, over and over again and- The hood fell off their face. Nora's mouth opened in an 'o'. It was impossible of course, but- "Are you," she ventured hesitantly. "A Volkov by any chance?" Then they kneed her in the stomach. She was still sputtering on the ground by the time they'd vanished into the early morning crowd, no one any the wiser. God that hurt. He was most definitely a Volkov- that kid hit her right in the solar plexus, for god's sake. Ow. She supposed she deserved it after jump-tackling him to the ground, but... She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. That face- it was too eerily similar. There was no way that Alexei had a kid who looked so much the spitting image. That had been Alexei- just a decade and a half too young. Nora finally managed to push themself to their feet and trudge back to their group. "Don't say anything," they muttered venomously, shooting Andrael a glare as they fell back in step with them. [Read more] |

Jace Mawer (Nora)"Aww, Andy's so mean." Nora laughed, swinging her arms back and forth. She paused to jump up two steps a time, stopping at the top and spinning around to face them, her hands clasping behind her back. She smiled. "Honestly, you'd look a lot cuter if you just dressed up a bit. Caring about the way you present- well, people are very visual. You could learn a thing or two from me." She leaned down towards them. "After all, first impressions go a long way. If you look cute enough, people tend to underestimate you." She grinned. "Just some friendly advice from a future Head Detective!~ Oh!" Nora yelped as she stumbled down a few steps. She looked behind her and spotted the rando who'd bumped into her and was now hurrying away. Her eyebrow twitched and a grin slowly grew on her face. Think you can just run ol' Mawer over and get away with it, do you? "Hey!" she yelled. "Get back here!" She ran after them, waving her fist and they yelped, breaking into a run. Niwa Atsushi"Yeah, going, going..." He fumbled with the wallet and finally jammed it into his coat pocket. "Alright. We'll take the red line down to the LRT in Central. Then we... can probably walk. I think?" Wait! Pretend you know what you're doing. Like, immediately. Or at least look like you're pretending you know what you're doing so you're doing something and they think you're a soft boy if you can't make 'competent superior who's guiding you on this mission.' "I know, actually! Let's go, guys, hurry, hurry..." He ushered them towards the door. "We don't want to be late! Times-a-wasting!" [Read more] |

Setsuna JunSutaraitsu looked sad, almost. Setsuna wanted to ask him what was wrong. This was a happy moment for them- the moment where they confirmed their status as a couple right in front of the background characters. This was happy, so why was- He squeezed his eyes shut, counted to 5, then opened them. "We should celebrate," he decided. "Ice cream! Strawberry, rocky road, cookies and cream- it'll all be there. And popcorn! Everything we could ever want, and then we'll watch a romantic movie, like the Notebook! Or something else, even. Anything you want-" He was babbling now, tears running down his face, but he couldn't stop. "Anything, Sutaraitsu! We'll watch or do everything! It'll just be like a first date, except it won't be awkward or weird because we love each other and we're together... and everything's fine, you see? Everything's fine! I'm-" He broke off, finally. "Ice cream... yeah. In the kitchen." "Puhuhuhu~ I think you Ultimates should evacuate for now. This trauma scene has been fun and all, but we need to do our morning workout." Off in the corner, Buffkuma winked at Karenkuma. "I don't think you kids should be in the room for that?" Hm. Setsuna wondered what that meant. Why did Buffkuma put so much emphasis on the word "workout"? And why was Miyako fleeing the room like the hounds of hell were at her heels? Kubo AtsushiHe's... comforting me? But... why? Doesn't he remember everything I've done to him? Isn't he afraid I'll drive a knife into his back and- Warmth. Warmth in his hand. He looked down and realised that Lucian had clasped it in his. Oh. His mouth dried up and for a second he was afraid he'd cry. Lucian... is this really what you want? To hold my hand, when I've hurt you? Even though you know all the blood that I've stained it with? Even though it's dry and chapped and it can't be nice in any way? But Lucian's hand was. Soft and warm, and gentle, even with the callouses that brushed against his palm. Cautiously, Kubo squeezed it. "Right," he whispered. "It will be okay." And this time, he really did cry. Silently, the tears just rolled down his face, even as he continued down the hall, hand in hand with Lucian. The only person in the world who would tell Kubo Atsushi, the Ultimate Detective, the murderer that he would be okay. The only person who could lie to him and make Kubo really want to believe. Jace Mawer (Nora)Uh oh, bore alert. Couldn't Nora be mean to Andy in peace? "Slower start!" she cheered anyway. They exited the Clockwork Detective Agency and started down the road for the nearest LRT. The sun had risen by now, and the morning was well off, people of all sorts scurrying about the streets. As she walked, she skipped over the cracks in the sidewalk. I don't want to fall into Middle Earth. Sometimes, the city of Trydanfaid looked as though it were constantly plagued with earthquakes or some giant monster that liked to leave a few claw marks in the concrete. But no, it was only plagued with an aging population and a city council that didn't care about the human part of town. Femi had been mad at her when she brought it up, even as a joke. One day, he said. Humans and androids will be equal. And we'll all live in harmony. But what if there aren't any humans left when that day rolls 'round? she asked him. He didn't reply, but she got the sense he wanted to say something... just didn't see the point in talking to someone who wouldn't listen. At the time she was smug, happy to have 'won', but now she wished he'd said something. Anything, if only to soothe over the emptiness in her memories. Sometimes, she tried to talk to him, but like the crevices and cracks in Trydanfaid's roads, there were also pieces of her memory that'd worn down, cut away by time. She'd start up a conversation with imaginary Femi and rip it to shreds in her frustration, because even in her dreams he never said anything he really meant. She supposed the whole time she'd known him, she'd never really known anything. He was a mystery now and with each passing day, that mystery lost its colours and its sharp edges, fading into a soft, dim memory. "Lookee, guys! We're here, and-" She checked the screen. "Five minutes to the next train! We're making great time!" Niwa Atsushi"Oh no, oh no!" Niwa squeaked. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you feel bad. Here!" He fumbled through his pocket and put his wallet in her hand. "Buy a coffee! Or wait, no that's weird-" He snatched it back. "I'll buy you a coffee! On our way to..." He checked the address. "Er... 21 Stryd Neidio? Yeah. There. Er... Cass." [Read more] |

Niwa Atsushi"Oh! There- she is." Wow, he really was good at sticking his foot in his mouth, wasn't he? Goddammit. He withheld a sigh as he approached her, trying to smile. "Hey... you're Cassidy, right? I'm Niwa Atsushi, the- well, your Detective, I guess. We're on the same case, though you probably already knew that so I probably should shut up now and- oh boy." He sighed. "Okay. We're on the same case together. Do I call you Cassidy, or does Cass work?" Jace Mawer (Nora)Someone off our trail? Nora perked up. What an interesting thing to say. Was it possible that Stella...? Too late, then. She kept the smile on her face regardless. "Of course~! I know everything after all. Just stick with me and we'll be down there in no time!" "Let's just go..." Andy, grumpy as always, pushed past them to take the lead. It was, quite frankly, rude and Nora briefly considered stealing her hat, but then she discovered that Andy did not have a hat, which was frustrating as it would've been very aesthetic. "Hey, Andy, how come you don't have a hat? I figured it'd go real nice with that whole 'middle aged divorced lawyer with an estranged son who doesn't love her' kind of vibe you've got going on." Jace Mawer (Nora)"Ah, ah," Nora chided. "Starting small? Those are the words of a fool! You have to aim high in case you fall short, my dear." She grinned. "Hence world domination! If you just wanna win this case, rack up a promotion- well, goodie for you, but ol' Nora over here will be kicking ass!" Stella reminded her a bit of Femi. The patronising and the worrying and just being so very set in her own head and ideas. She took things the way they were, accepted them and worked with it. For just a single moment, Nora found herself hating the old Oracle. For her cowardice, for her foolishness, for her- everything that just stood there and lived with the way things were. As though she were Femi, back with his stutters and his defense of their already broken society. Then it faded and the smile returned to her face. "I'm kidding, don't worry! World domination can go on the backburner for now. You just go on and keep ol' Nora grounded and we'll make the perfect team. The dreamer and the realist, besties forever! The greatest Detective duo!" She thought for a second. "Oh, and Buraddo. Them too." [Read more] |

Jace Mawer (Nora)This really was the perfect opportunity. A head detective and their old Oracle? She could already taste the promotion. It was time to start practicing her smug 'ha-ha you suck Narcisse' smile as he glared daggers at her and slid her new job title over the desk. Stella (or SDC) was being sensible and agreeing with everything Nora said. How lovely. Perhaps she could find some support in her, hey? "Hell yeah!" She pumped her fist. "Let's go, dudes! Watch the world burn in the light of our magnificence!" She seized Stella's hand in hers. "Begin the siege!" They dragged her down the hallway, cackling. "The planet! Ours!" [Read more] |

Setsuna JunAkora was bloody and very very dead on the ground. "Matching suits! That sounds amazing!" Setsuna flushed, imagining it. The two of them tearing up the dance floor, hand in hand, the ideal couple- the ideal- The ideal corpse. She was perfect. Bloodied face, bloodied smile and she was so very still. Ideal corpse. She'd get an A+ on the "being dead" test. "We can- we can do anything. Be anything. None of this will matter, because we're together." We're together. Sutaraitsu and I are together. Nothing can hurt us, absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing- Nothing. Miyako HirotoMiyako took watch, standing at the edge of the room, careful to keep an eye on the crime scene in its entirety. Any hidden knives, an exploded gas cannister... well, whatever happened, she'd be here and she could intervene. She could save him before anything happened. Her nails dug into the flesh of her hand, and the pain was sweet in comparison to everything else. Why did it have to come to this? Little brother... Everything was perfect this way, but everything was also awful. She had Shi, and she'd sacrificed him for it. Was that right or wrong? Could she absolve her guilt if he was the person she pretended he was? Or would it always haunt her- the fact that she was a traitor. That she betrayed him. That she'd betrayed everyone standing here, and that she had been the one to bring about this Killing Game? Now that- that was absolutely insane. She wasn't sure when she'd started to feel that way, but... Didn't I cause this? Didn't I tell him... No. She couldn't think about that. She was supposed to keep her thoughts quiet. Never reveal anything to even yourself. Never let anyone know your guilt, else it come into reality. But that didn't change the fact that she was a coward. And a murderer. Kubo Atsushi"Alright, Lucian," Kubo said softly. Just be quiet. Just ignore the way Lucian's eyes were fixated on his ungloved hand, as though he expected a knife to be produced at any given moment. Do you really think I'll stab you in the back, Lucian? Now, after everything? It hurt, admittedly. He knew he deserved it. He'd proven time and time again that he wasn't trustworthy, and he'd even told Lucian as much. But he thought he still had Lucian. That there was at least one person he hadn't driven away yet. I've been too vulnerable, too stupid. I've let my feelings spill all over the place, and I ruined everything for it. In being a good person, there's a certain level of vulnerability, I guess. Because then they'll know you're a bad person and... Oh, hooray. Wasn't that a paradox? God, this was all so confusing. Whatever. That could go back into the nope-no-thank-you box where it would stay and never grace the light of day again. Kubo left with Shi and Lucian. He kept an eye out for Miyako, but she really didn't seem to be following them. He'd thought she wanted to watch them from a distance... but perhaps she really was telling the truth. There was someone else she was keeping an eye on. That was unnerving. Was there someone here she hated even more than Kubo? He didn't know that was possible. Every given second she was glaring daggers at him. Miyako... what are you hiding? A theory slowly began to build itself in his head. Piecing together moments and whispers and everything that had happened over the past couple of days. There was some mystery here, something bigger than anything he'd ever uncovered. Is it possible that she's... [Read more] |

Adrik VolkovThe Head Detective had gone very still. There was a look in his eyes that Adrik didn't quite like. Something vast and empty, as though he were staring straight through them. "I don't think that was him," Adrik whispered. "Where?" Head Detective Michon croaked. He shook his head, blinking rapidly, but the haunted look didn't leave his eyes. "What did it say? Did it mention anything about Chika?" Niwa AtsushiNiwa jumped, suddenly realising who was standing right next to him. "I-Iliya! What a coincidence!" Oh, am I out of it. "What are you doing here? Well, I guess you're checking out the assignments... Me too! Though you could probably tell..." Oh dear, it was getting worse. "So uh... do you have any idea who this Cassidy person is?" Narcisse MichonAh, Detective Konstantin was grumbling again. Unsurprising. The man had the maturity of a five year old. "Perhaps your receiving these marks is indicative of an underlying problem?" Narcisse offered. "Such as... a lack of work ethic? General incompetency? Sneaking out of your office to harass the latest influx of interns?" He rolled his eyes. "Though I suppose you'd rather just blame your failings on me. As per usual. Very well, do as you please." The intern cleared his throat. Narcisse turned to look at him. Despite the way the boy was trembling, there was a certain fire in his eyes. Narcisse wasn't even sure the boy was aware of it. But there was some strength in there, even with the hunched posture and the frantic blinking behind those owlish glasses. Something that made Narcisse, on an instinctual level want to listen. Something that made him... "Speak," he told the intern coldly. "It's just..." the intern trailed off. He looked at Detective Konstantin, then looked back. "Nothing, then? I suppose you can go-" "No, wait! Sir! This is seriously weird. We can't leave until... it's figured out." The kid glanced nervously back and forth. "Mister Head Detective sir... there was another you down that corridor. He looked just like you, but..." he trailed off. "Wrong." The words hit him like a cannonball, the impact had his lungs tightening, his vision narrowing, everything fixating on that little boy with the round glasses and the... the story. Narcisse felt lightheaded. Dizzy. He thought he might crash down to the floor. "Another me, you say?" Andreja Buivis"A magician never reveals their secrets!" She shot them a wink and darted across the room, coming to a stop by the doorway, spinning on her heel to face them at the last second. "Coming?" Niwa AtsushiNiwa traced his fingers over the assignments list. The words were delightfully smooth beneath his fingertips. His own caseload. People to train. Huh. A smile slowly spread over his face. This was... amazing. Jace Mawer (Nora)"Casemates for life!" Nora whooped, pumping her fist in the air. "Together, we'll kick ass, Bura-Bura- aha-! More companions!" She spun around to address the new voices. "Andy, darling! I've missed you! Oh, and SDC..." She wiped a fake tear away. "It really has been so long! We should get together some time. Get a few drinks, swap a few stories... ah, but reunion truly is so joyful. Perhaps it's worth the pain of separation, however temporary?" Oh, Andy was always so forward. A woman after her own heart! "Partnership is quite the way to put it." Nora grinned. "A murder case? Related to the Atsushi movement, nonetheless?" She shook her head with a laugh. "I love how they assigned us to it! The Clockwork Detective Agency... really, we ought to be paying them." Lydia popped up out of nowhere, just then, being her usual a-maze-ing self. Ah, she was so much fun! Nora's caseload might be a bore, but if it were interspersed with some of that sweet sweet Lydia time, it was all worth it. "Perhaps we should head out?" Nora offered. "It is a few cities away... I imagine we'll have all the time we need for research while we're on the road." She flashed one of her trademark grins. "Dontcha think?" [Read more] |

Jace Mawer (Nora)Nora tipped their head to the side, studying the paper for a minute, then barked out a laugh. A red case, huh? They must really have a lotta faith in ol' Nora! But they weren't smiling, not really. Why would they put me on a case like this? After all this time? Femi's face flashed in the back of their head. Their nails dug into the skin of their palm, and the pain was sweet in comparison to the writhing emotions in their heart. You failed him. It's your fault he's dead and never coming back. Because you let him die. You wanted him to die if it meant you could extend your sad, pathetic existence. The smell of iron hit their nose. They glanced down and realised that they broke skin. Oh well. Their face brightened up in a smile. At least they could torture Buraddo! That really made everything worth it!!!! Adrik Volkov"I'm fine. I really don't need you hovering over me like this, you know..." Adrik frowned. "But thanks... I guess. You saved me from some small humiliation." Though who knows what I owe you for it. "Detective Konstantin. I assume you're not holding up business for any meaningful venture with our new interns?" Adrik jumped. "Sorry, sir! We didn't mean to-" He paused. "Wait. Weren't you just down there?" Confusion overrode propriety. "I could've sworn we just came..." "Don't be ridiculous," Head Detective Michon scoffed. "I've been in my office since the assignments were posted. Which you are supposed to be reading." He glared at Aleksandr. "Another mark, Detective Konstantin. This is going on your record." Adrik VolkovHead Detective Michon tilted his head to the side in an unnervingly young way. "There's no problem there." His eyes tracked the two as they backed up. Adrik VolkovI'm not your "man". Adrik gritted his teeth and kept going. "I'm busy!" he yelled. "Find someone else to bother. I have to-" He turned the corner and crashed into Head Detective Michon. He hit the ground first. The panic started up after. "Oh no sir! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to- I should've been looking where I was going-" "Intern." It took a moment for Adrik to realise the gruff voice was addressing him. "Y-Yes sir?" "...Get to work." "Right!" Adrik squeaked, jumping to his feet. "Right, sorry, sorry, I'm going! Thank you for your kindness sir, I'm out of your hair from here on after." He blabbered more stupid, inane things. Head Detective Michon was watching him with a cold glitter in his eyes as he spoke, an almost smile upturning his lips. "Volkov... right?" Adrik almost started crying. "Y-Yes! Volkov!" Adrik VolkovLeaving the Investigative Department, Adrik closed the door with a little more force than necessary. He made his way down the hall and towards the offices where he'd find the Head Detectives and get them to- He came to a stop. Get them to... what? Transfer him to another case? The newbie, already involved in a fight on day one? Oh, they'd love that. He was practically offering up his resignation on a silver platter. Andreja Buivis"Exact-lee. Scorned man having an affair of his own? The papers'd eat it up. He'd be doomed. So he pays his little lover to stay here, and be real quiet... but he doesn't pay her enough, y'see? She's keeping his secret and doing the caulking. She gets frustrated after a while. And she bounces. Boom, she's off, and with his little ring too." Andreja laughed. She'd heard a variation of this story a hundred times- everyone knew old men with young wives were no good and neither were their bloody jewels. She considered what they said for a minute, then shrugged. "Eh, yeah, that's possible too. This was fun though, right? Even if there's no evidence and it never comes to light- because god are rich people good at covering up their tracks-[/i] we can be assured he's no innocent in this. In one way or another, he's hiding something. Might as well talk about it, amirite? Mess with that shiny reputation of his." Or nothing! That worked too. Hmm. The plot needed to be advanced... "I think they finally posted the cases," she said thoughtfully. "Lotsa noise out there..." [Read more] |
