Wintergreen nodded, listening intently to the Night-RainWing's explanation. Her eyes widened a bit when Venus said that she could see the future, only if partially. To have that kind of power - what was it like? Scary? Exciting? The IceWing gave a soft "awww" at the mention of a tiny little dragonet, just a hatchling. How adorable! "Oh!" She couldn't help the small exclamation she gave at the sight of the dragon's scales in front of her suddenly shifting from color to color; it was like standing inside of a rainbow, or flying through a sunset. "That's absolutely gorgeous," Wintergreen whispered, stunned. "And congratulations on your brother! I have a younger sister named Aster," she said, smiling as she thought of her two-year-old sister flapping about at home. "How old is-" Wintergreen was interrupted by a call from the hallway, though she didn't quite make out the words. "Did you catch that, Venus?"

----

Sandpiper laughed softly at her description of Starflight. She was absolutely right, of course, from what he knew, and he was a bit of a scrollworm himself. As much as he wanted to meet the Nightwing, he had to agree that Sunny was more likely to be in charge. "Yeah, you're probably right," the hybrid agreed, finally rising to his feet again. "Shall we go look for her?" Sandpiper was about to start moving towards the hallway when a loud crash met his ears, followed by some shouting. "What on earth?!" He squinted as his ears rang from the noise. "Ouch. Did they say something about a meeting?"

Firebug shook his head, walking farther into the cave. "I'm not sure. I have no idea if there's something we're supposed to be doing, or if we just hang out until classes start." He picked his way over to a ledge that seemed to have a silken nest, much like the one at his home in Pantala, and he smiled. "Cool, we get our own special beds."

----

Wintergreen giggled, settling herself down on the floor as well. "Well, alright, if you insist." She thought for a moment, then fired off a barrage, similarly to the way Venus had previously. "Do your scales shift color? If so, how much control do you have over it? Are there spots you can't change? Can you read minds? Or see the future? Um, do you have any siblings..?" The IceWing trailed off at the last one, beginning to laugh. "I'm not as good at the lots and lots of questions. That's about all I can think of right now," Wintergreen explained a bit bashfully. "I'll try to get better at interrogating you," she joked with a smile.

----

Sandpiper nodded. "That's a good idea. Yeah, they founded the school a few years after the Wars ended. I wonder who's in charge of that, though? Maybe Sunny? Or...Starflight?" He didn't think Tsunami or Clay would be involved with that; Clay was much more likely to be in charge of hunting, and Tsunami, in charge of fighting and keeping the peace and enforcing the rules. Sunny, as friendly and warm as she was, would be a good pick for working with the students. Starflight was excellent at staying organized. "Which one do you think?"

Wintergreen laughed as well, watching her friend inspect the frosted rock. "Don't worry about it, I get my words mixed up sometimes, too," she said with a smile, waving a wing as though brushing the issue aside. At the dragonet's mention of venom, the IceWing tilted her head to the side. Of course; she hadn't even thought whether Venus had inherited RainWing or NightWing powers. From what she knew, RainWing venom was highly acidic, corroding whatever it touched almost instantly. She had to wonder if Venus could read her mind or tell the future. Thinking it over, she decided that her clawmate probably couldn't read minds - she figured a dragon like that would be so much more cautious about what they said. And anyways, Wintergreen wouldn't mind either way. It could be a way of silent communicating! Well, one-sided, but still cool. She was shaken out of her thoughts by Venus's question. "I...hmm." Wintergreen mulled it over for a minute before answering. "Yes, I think so. As long as the IceWing was very careful, I think the frostbreath would cryogenically freeze the wound, which might not heal it, but it could definitely stop bleeding or stop infection from spreading. I think it could be super useful, actually," the IceWing agreed.

Sandpiper nodded, listening to Spiri talk. "Yeah, I've heard that IceWings haven't been defeated on their own territory in hundreds of moons." He of course knew about the SandWing Wars of Succession, as well as the SeaWings part in it, but he wasn't sure which of the tribes would be stronger. He glanced back at the barbs on his tail and at the spiraled patterns along his wings, back, and legs. Hybrids could probably be the most shocking fighters that other dragons could face. "Fighting would probably be very cool as a hybrid," Sandpiper said, tilting his head in thought. "I think you'd make a great healer and hunter too! We should try to have classes together!"

Firebug followed behind Aurora, taking in the sights of the caves. They weren't as narrow as he thought they might be, and there was always enough room for three dragons to walk wing to wing. He stopped when the Nightwing in front of him did, and looked around the cave. It looked big enough to house four or five dragons, and he was impressed. "This seems really nice."

----

Wintergreen giggled at her new friend's obvious enthusiasm, taking in each question as they came to make sure she answered all of them. When Venus stopped before asking her last question, the IceWing tilted her head. "What's up? Like I said, you can ask whatever you want, I don't mind. But hey, no pressure," she added, rolling a rock over to the side of the room. "You can think about how you want to say it while I answer your other questions." Wintergreen pointed to the rock. "Watch closely, but stay back." She carefully opened her jaw and exhaled, and a jet of what looked like liquid shot out, but it almost immediately started turning to gas. Where it hit the rock, ice immediately spread across it. Snapping her mouth shut to prevent any more cold from seeping out, she gave Venus a grin. "That's what it looks like! To answer your other questions: it's basically liquid nitrogen," Wintergreen explained. She had studied the IceWing powers from a young age, fascinated by how exactly everything worked. "It's not quite like fire other than the fact that it's very painful if it hits you. It's a jet of very, very cold liquid that almost immediately starts to turn to gas when it hits the air. And it can cause very severe cold burns, so it's best for non-IceWings to be extremely careful around it," Wintergreen said, rolling the rock towards Venus for her to look at. "Don't worry though, I won't let anyone get their frostbreath anywhere near you."

----

Sandpiper gave her a wide smile. "It is great! And that's awesome! I'm really excited to learn about the other tribes and meet dragons, too," he agreed. He continued to leave one wing brushing against hers, almost subconsciously. "I also came here to study history and healing, too, though," the dragonet added, shuffling his claws a bit shyly. "I don't know if I'll be any good at them, but I definitely want to try." Sandpiper met Spiri's gaze again. "Is there anything you're looking forward to studying?"

No one had been nice enough to talk to her? Kindly? Or offer to help her? Sandpiper suddenly pulled Spiri into a hug. "Of course I'd be nice to you," he replied before releasing her and leaning back. "You really need to meet some better dragons," he added, nudging her playfully. "I think you'd like Possibility. There are lots of hybrids there, and lots of very nice dragons."

Sandpiper was shocked. How could her parents to that to such a wonderful dragon? "I...I'm so sorry," he said softly, opening his wing slightly to brush against her wing. "I can't imagine why they would do that to you. I mean, I think you're wonderful." He gave her a warm smile, letting his wing stay against hers until she decided to break the contact. "I'd love to be friends, if that's okay with you." He tilted his head. "I'd offer to take you to Possibility with me after school ends, but I'm not sure if it would be too warm for you. Is the rainforest too warm?"

Sandpiper let out a soft "oooooh" at Spiri's display of freezesilk. It was an excellent idea to use the silk to heal wounds; it made him wonder if any of his "powers" could be useful for certain things. He shivered a bit at the chill coming from the other dragonet's scales, and he marveled at the way her spikes seemed to shimmer. "Woooah, that's super pretty," Sandpiper commented with a smile. He tilted his head. "Do you live in the Ice Kingdom? Or on Pantala somewhere?"

Sandpiper nodded in response. "Yep! It's kind of weird, with my mom loving water so much and my dad hating it," he elaborated. "But we live in a town called Possibility, and there's a port there, so we live right on the water. That way my dad can have fun in the arid desert climate but my mom can also be in the ocean when she wants to." Sandpiper stepped fully into the room, showing off his odd tail. "I prefer warm water though. Cold water sometimes irritates my scales, especially on my tail." He laughed briefly, then swept a wing over Spiri's back. "That isn't usually a big problem, though," he explained, "because I have the Sandwing power of being really warm all the time." Sandpiper smiled and let her feel the heat from his wing before folding it again. "I have gills, too, although they are way more sensitive than my mom's. Freshwater only." The tan dragon tilted his head. "Anything else you're curious about? Oh, and do you spin silk? Is it the opposite of flamesilk - uh...frostsilk? Um, sorry if that's too many quesitons. And answers. I talk a lot." Sandpiper sheepishly shut up and gave Spiri a chance to respond.

Wintergreen chuckled a little, amused by Venus's fascination with her. Although, she had to admit she was equally curious about both RainWings and NightWings; IceWings didn't often get the chance to interact with other tribes. "Me neither. And yes, I do have frostbreath. Do you want to see?" Wintergreen gave the other dragonet a bigger smile. She definitely liked Venus a lot, and she was extremely grateful to already be getting along with one of her clawmates. "Oh, and don't feel like you have to stop talking," she added. Wintergreen could practically feel the questions vibrating around in the Night-RainWing's head. "You can talk and ask questions as much as you want, I don't mind at all."

----

Sandpiper perked up. "Oh, cool! Nice to meet you." Spotting the frost that Spiri was sweeping away with her tail, he let out a small gasp. "Are you a hybrid, too? Silkwing and Icewing?" He gave her a warm smile. "That is SO cool! Oh, um, I'm Sandpiper, by the way," he quickly added, walking a step or two into the entrance of the cave so that she could see him better. "Like I said, it's nice to meet you."

Firebug shrugged. "Yeah, that would probably be a good idea after that episode." He turned to Aurora. "Do you know if we're in the same room? If so, maybe you could show me there," he suggested. "I don't really know my way around." The dragonet looked back at the cave system, his apprehension returning. Stone or not, he knew that living underground was going to take some getting used to. He hoped that at least a couple of the caves would be big enough to fly in.

----

Wintergreen smiled bashfully as the other dragonet introduced herself. "Hi there, Venus," she replied, happy that her guess had been correct. She was pleased to see that Venus seemed to be at ease and friendly, and she felt herself relax a bit. "A Nightwing and Rainwing hybrid? I suppose that makes a lot of sense, now that you're united under Queen Glory," Wintergreen said thoughtfully, walking further into the cave. She was surprised to find a bed lined with furs in one corner of the room, much like the one she'd left behind at home in the Ice Kingdom. "Wow, they put a lot of thought into this, didn't they?" Turning back to Venus, she smiled. "I really love your scales. They're so pretty! You look like you just jumped out of the galaxy. I'm just a regular Icewing," Wintergreen added, swishing her tail across the floor, her icy spines clattering softly against the stone. "I think we're in the same winglet."

----

Seeing no reaction from the dragons in the cave, other than the Nightwing darting out and going off by himself, Sandpiper just shrugged and headed deeper into the caves. After wandering for a bit, he found himself at the same cave as before. Sighing, he decided to try his luck again. "Um, hello," he said, poking his head into the cave. "Erm, are you Spiri, by any chance?" Although it had been a random stab, he had a hunch that he was correct. "My name is Sandpiper. I'm, um, bored." The tan dragonet smiled at the seemingly sleepy dragon. "Just had a nap?"

Firebug shook his head. "What a weirdo." He turned back to the other dragonets. "Um. So...now what?" He folded his wings, glancing between Aurora and the other hybrid. "Oh, what's your name, by the way?" Firebug didn't remember getting the golden dragonet's name.

Firebug sighed, relieved that one of the full-grown dragons was finally here. Backing down, he still kept his wings spread to shield the other two dragonets. "Hi Clay. This dragon was threatening to kill us," he answered dryly, glaring at the horrible stranger. Firebug was impressed by how massive the Mudwing seemed, even next to the strange dragon. Clearly, Clay was not to be messed with, no matter how gentle he was.

Firebug snarled and jumped in front of the dragon in hiding. "Leave him alone. You're clearly outnumbered, and there's an animus right here. Good luck winning this fight. And we're clearly drawing attention, so more dragons are probably on their way." He took a threatening step forward. "I'm not afraid of you."

Firebug snorted. "My dreams are already haunted. You won't make much of a difference. And," he growled, showing off his claws, "I'm named Firebug for a reason. You don't want to know how much these hurt." Then it registered. He whipped his head around to face Aurora. "A-Animus magic?!"

Although he was unsettled by the seemingly endless drip of blood from the dragon's mouth, he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Firebug, while shy and a bit skittish, wasn't a coward. No, no, this stranger wasn't scary to him. Not after...he shuddered. Not after Queen Wasp. In response, Firebug simply stretched his wings out farther and flexed his claws. "I think the "stalker of dreams" title would have belonged to someone else," he growled, remembering the prophecy that a dragon named Moonwatcher had spoken in the past. "And besides, I doubt you're even allowed to be here."

Firebug jumped and spun around, flaring his huge wings and growling. "Who- What are you?" He stepped back, his face contorting with disgust as he took in the dragon's twisted appearance. He noticed the tail barb and the wings, and almost winced. Just great - A Sandwing and Hivewing hybrid. Perfect combination for the worst-tempered dragon in Pantala. And was that - was there blood on the dragon's mouth?! Clearly this stranger was dangerous. Firebug hissed right back, showing off the barbs on his claws. His name was no accident - the dragonet had a poison in the barbs, so that when he struck an enemy, even the tiniest scratch would begin to burn like fire. A real wound would cause even a huge Nightwing a lot of agony. "Don't even think about trying to mess with us."

Firebug jumped as he heard a third voice echo from the entrance to the caves. Peering around Aurora, he spotted the speaker - a golden dragonet with the characteristic Sandwing sail, dark eyes, and stocky build. However, true to her description, he could see two sets of wings on her back, thin and shimmery just like a Silkwing. "That's very cool," he replied, stepping sideways to let her join the conversation. "I'm Firebug. This is Aurora. We're in the same winglet," he explained.
