Oh, I completely agree that it might be "abused" or be a bit... unnecessary. Although I have to admit, I can't see this community being very abusive about it. But who knows.

i think a grey circle or something of the sort would satisfyingly encompass all genders

to be honest, 99.999999999999999% of the people on this site aren't going to care what gender someone is or isn't at any given moment as long as they deal with their pokemon fairly, follow the rules, and don't be a jerk (and in the event that someone doesn't do one of those things, they still won't care, and rules here aren't discriminatory against gender anyways)

not that i don't support equal gender representation, but that's not what we're ultimately on the site for, we're here for pokemon and to catch em all and in the end, what gender any one person is doesn't matter at all, cause the thing that unites us is our love for a lot of weird little critters :p

I have to agree with AutumnStar, our gender is not that important on this site ^-^

You get support from me tough because if somebody don't want to show their gender, they should be able too :)

The idea that someone might get treated differently on this site because of their gender didn't even cross my mind when I did this suggestion. To tell the truth something like that might happen. Not that I believe it is happening or will happen but in a world filled with humans that is always a possibility, although a very small one.

I merely made this suggestion so those who don't like having their gender shown to everyone would have a choice to hide it, with nothing else in mind. :p

Riza: I think it could be abused by trolls and people alike who make fun of those kinds of things, using it to make a joke out of it. I don't agree with it, but it would happen and I don't think we should give people the opportunity to do that.

@Diana

I still think that the opportunity should be made available. Like with most things, there will be those who abuse or manipulate this. However, we don't make anyone prove that they are one gender or another when signing up for the site, and that is abusable. For example, had I wanted, I could have said I was a guy on singing up. That is the freedom of the internet.

But what Finhawk is asking is not a loophole for trolls to act like jerks on Pokeheroes. Instead, she is asking for an option to not be called one gender or another. What would abusing it serve? If you hide your gender, don't be offended by people using the "wrong" pronouns. I don't care either way when people don't know what gender I am, and if it is ever something that matters, I just politely mention it.

Having something like a grey circle, or a gender neutral/trans symbol (like the genderless Pokemon have)should not be something that will be heavily abused. If there is anything you worry about being abused, please tell us what you think might happen, and what scares you.

If you can read this, you know how to read.

I'm not referring to Finhawk's suggestion, but Riza's part. I do support Finhawk's suggestion and mentioned that before.

Oh, sorry then. I was confused by your wording of "I don't think we should give people the opportunity to do that" in reference to trolls using this to be jerks.

I read through the posts before, but cannot remember who said what if it is a different page

I kind of support this.. 'coz it'll be sometimes difficult to always write a longer name in a couple of sentences rather than a proper pronoun.

I won the "Event Spriting Contest" as it says on News Announcement #224.

If it's not too late then I'd like to make a point or something :P I support this because there are some people who want to be other genders because of what they like :3. For example boy liking fashion or girish things would be better of faking his gender as a girl. He would get along better with other people who like fashion mainly girls. Of course if you had the option of not showing your gender it would be much more easier plus simpler than faking a gender.

I support this idea. the gender shouldn't be relevant for something on pokeheroes.

ph is basically a game for kids. this implements automatically that it's not a datingsite or a showroom for personal viewing.

and after people had pms here with content like "wanna do some [things, that kids don't do] things with me? <3" it's time for stop showing genders here.

Pfft I support because of this^^
I wouldn't really mind being called a he because of my username. (Or soon-to be old username) I just go with it.

I want to post to give my support here. I chose female on here, since that is my biological gender. However, my Pokésona on here is a male, and I relate more with him when I'm on this site than I do with being myself.

So, I would use this option to hide my gender, not minding if people call me a he or she on here, since both would be considered perfectly fine. But seeing the female icon by my username bothers me a little since the username is his nickname.

And I would like to make a note that I did not know this would bother me when I joined the site. It's just something that's been bothering me a fair bit for over a week now (Only being two weeks old at the time of this post) and I've cut back on my online time a little because it does bother me.

I support in being able to hide your gender. This is NOT a dating site and shouldn't be treated like one, so we don't all need to know what our genders are in order to flirt around without mixing things up (sorry for sounding blunt but that's usually what I think when I see only male or female options and no way to hide it).

As for people faking their gender, what's to stop a girl from clicking the male option or a male from clicking the female option now? Who knows maybe some people have already done it.

I noticed this when I joined and after all the other sites I've seen it did kind of make me tilt my head, like, where is the "other" option or where is the "hide gender" button? In this day and age we can't just say "you HAVE to choose male or female" because let's face it some people aren't just one or the other or either and do have a right to keep that private even if they are male or female.

And again we don't really need to broadcast "I'm a female!" Or "I'm a male!" On a site that has nothing to do with gender. It just seems like opening a window to favoritism as I saw mentioned before and for people to treat you differently. Who knows some people might only want guy friends, or lady friends, on their friend's list and this can prevent people from branching out.

And there is nothing stoping people from saying they are female or male in their bio/profile, they can type it and people will know, just don't force people to broadcast it for everyone to see who don't want to.

I support the option to chose gender. However, if the site does this, I think they should make custom gender settings available for those who are non-binary. Of course, people should also have the choice to hide their gender.
Plus, I don't really see why someone would want to fake their gender.

I support this. Choosing a gender might be difficult to those who are gender fluid, and might make them feel as if this site is insensitive to gender fluid people.
