For genderless pokemon ie Staryu, magnemite, voltorb etc, can you only breed them with ditto or is there a trick I don't know about?

Quick shiny hunt question. Once you hatch a shiny, you need to buy new batteries but does your chain restart at 0 or does it keep going with the same odds?
