how do people get their pokemon in their signatures and other places??

You mean like a widget? You can grab one in the share widget link in the community tab. To set it in your signature go to your account in setting and click signature. In the text box put whatever widget link you have and then it'll be in your signature.

Example:

[ widget=inter]192681[/widget] (The numbers are your pokemon's unique ID. You can find it in the URL.)
