My shadow radar doesn't count pokemon when I encounter them and just adds different pokemon to the chain when actually it has crashed

The Radar only counts the *same* pokémon. If you catch a different one, it crashes.

What you're seeing, is what happens when your second pokémon is different from the first pokémon.
