You flip open the notebook in your hands. It's quite thick, maybe a hundred or so pages long. Nothing special. Nothing. Special.

Chapter 1
The Doctor & The Jester

A sleepless night in the laboratory led to the death of the underground's greatest genius of the century.

You flip to the first page. There is a faded picture of a family, a tall man with short silver hair, dressed in a lab coat, tired but happy, a slightly shorter man with long brown hair, dressed in a sweater, grinning cheerfully. A short boy wearing a dark-brown hoodie, with short brown hair, smiling lazily, and a short girl with shoulder-length silver hair, dressed in a scarf and a light jacket, clearly the one taking the picture, grinning. They were labeled, but the pencil's lines were too smudged.

A tall man is slumped over a desk, scribbling furiously at a piece of paper, before banging his head onto the table in frustration. He groans in pain. He takes off the thin-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, examining them.

"Damn it... Cracked them..."

He looked down at the piece of paper, covered in scribbles and eraser marks.

"... just one more time. They're buying time... I can't let it go to waste..."

He went back to scribbling in the dim, orange light of the room.

[You flip to the next page.]

[Entry 1: Uh.... Hi? I guess? My therapist said I should keep a journal after Iliya's death... they said It'd help with the grief. yeah... uhm... Zach 'n I got into another fight. I hit him and... his grades are dropping, he's skipping school... if I had forced Iliya to stay home that day, maybe he'd still be alive. I wish I could go back to those days. These days, the house is always so quiet...]

[I don't think I can write anymore. -Kendo Sato, June 19th, 201x]

It's been a few days.

The tall man gets up from his seat, holding a weapon of some sort, a gauntlet shaped like a dragon's skull. He scowls at the gauntlet. His blue eyes are dim, barely visible under the cracked, dust-caked glasses perched on his nose.

"This thing... It better work. They've not gotten to the corridor yet. I have time."

He fiddled with a switch on the device. It powered up with a hum, the black eyes turning blue. He wheeled around, aiming at a target nearby. He closed one eye, then fired. A blast of azure energy shot out from the mouth, shattering the wooden board. He nodded in satisfaction.

All of a sudden, the room was bathed in red light. It went deathly silent, as all the machines simultaneously powered off. He froze.

he slowly turned around.

There, standing in the doorway, was a child, no more than 4 feet tall. They had a knife in their hands, and the scent of ash was heavy in the air.

The man covered his mouth, nearly throwing up. His blue eyes were glinting in fear.

"No. No, no, no. Yu're not supposed to be here! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!"

The Child took a step forward. They were in the shadows. His breathing quickened, his heart thumping in his chest. He raised the gauntlet, pointing it t the child.

They took another step.

Then another.

Then one last step, into the light.

Their eyes were pitch black, seeping a black ooze. Their mouth was contorted in a horrible, distorted smile, opened wide.

The man took a step backwards, and hit the wall. He was visibly shaking.

"Please... Please, no... No, no, Idon't want to die yet... PLEASE.... GET OUT! GET OUT!"

He fired a blast of blue energy. It slammed right into the child's shoulder, but they didn't even flinch. They kept walking towards the poor scientist.

"No, STAY BACK! GET OUT!"

They raised the knife.

"GETOUTGETOUTGETOUTGETOUTGETO-"

Everything went white.

[You hum quietly, as you flip through the pages. The last page is dusty, releasing a foul smelling ash into the room as you flip it. You cough, shaking your head. You try to rub the dust out of your hair. The diary abruptly stopped on February, 202x. The notebook cleared up only a few things about this "Kendo" character. They were an orphan, they had 3 siblings, and all of them died in some horrible accident.]

[You shake you head. It is awful.]

[You flip to the next page, still trying to rid the dust from the air. On the next page is... a knife. Why is there a knife? You don't know. It seems to be covered in some sort of gray dust, when you touch it.]

[You flip to the next page rather quickly, trying to ignore the knife. The handwriting is completely different, now. It reads]

[Entry 1. a new diary. This should be fun. My name is Aeryn Aryll Arshen, most people know me as Jester. I found this notebook in a Bokoblin hideout the other day, so I decided to start writing, I guess?]

A tall person, draped in a velvet cloak, wearing a red jester's hat and a golden, smiling drama mask sits in a field, staring off into the middle distance. They let out a maniacal laugh, removing their mask. they pulled off his hat as well, throwing both accessories to the side, revealing a heavily scarred face, the most prominent scar being the glasgow smile carved into his mouth, bright orange eyes and shoulder-length golden hair. they brushed a lock of their hair out of his eyes, staring at the castle in the distance. They narrowed their eyes.

[Entry 36. Attempted the castle, today. Failed miserably. nearly got blown to bits by a guardian. Didn't even get inside.]

They hissed, as he wrapped a bandage around their arm. They tightened the bandage, then ripped off the end with their teeth. They pulled a bottle out of his bag, a red liquid sloshing around in it. They uncapped the bottle, pulled off his mask, and downed the bottle. They set down the bottle, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. He sighed, lying down.

[Entry 109. Got called for some champion replacement thing, by some small Sheikah. It was boring.]

The tall person looked down at the device in his hand. A Sheikah Slate. How interesting. he turned it over, turning it on. They let out a laugh, randomly, as they flicked through it. They tapped on something labelled as "camera". They hummed.

[Entry 136. Starting the assault on Vah Me-]

[You perk up suddenly. You hear footsteps.]

["Lydia? Where are you, kid?"]

[You huff. You put your hand to the ground, knocking on the floor three times.]

[A few seconds pass, and suddenly, light enters the room, as a trapdoor in the ground opens. A man peeks into the room, with brown hair, tied into a high ponytail, tan skin and blue eyes. he tilts his head slightly.]

["What're you doing in the attic? Wait- How did you even get in here?"]

[You shrug.]

[he laughs.]

["Okay then. better come down, kid. Dinner's ready. You don't want to miss it, do you?"]

[he stops, seeing the notebook. he narrows his eyes.]

["Wait a minute... How did you get that book? Hand it over."]

[You huff, handing it over to him.]

[He nods.]

["Thanks, kid. alright, come down after washing up, okay?"]

[He leaves, muttering something about lives.]

[It's nearly midnight. You really want to finish reading the notebook, so you decide to steal it back. You sneak downstairs, entering a laboratory.]

[The man is sitting at a desk, his feet propped on his desk, leaning back in his chair, relaxed. His hair was let down, reaching his shoulders. He seemed to be sleeping.]

[You sneak past him, spotting the notebook on a desk.]

[You grab it, and tiptoe out.]

[You get up to your room, close the door and lock it. You slide under the covers of your bed, holding the notebook and your flashlight.]

[Entry 136. Starting the assault on Vah Medoh. Writing this from the belly of the beast. belly of the bird? Whats the term for that? I don't know. Hopefully we don't run into anything too dangerous.]

The tall person stands next to a humanoid bird and a dark-skinned, red-haired woman, on top of a giant flying platform. A . The tall person laughs, staring at the giant monster emerging from the dark ooze.

"It's Windblight Ganon! Dodge the cannons!"

A blue beam of superhot energy shot past the group, arcing back to hit them in the back. The Jester-like fellow rushed forward, a giant, sparking sword in their hands. They leaped up, their greatsword raised over their head.

[Entry 140. Rudania time. This is gonna be the hardest one so far, it's bloody hot on the volcano.]

[You hum, as you read the entries in the notebook. You've learned a few things about this "Jester" person. They seem to live in a land known as Hyrule, and they seem to be part of a group known as the "Champions," taking down giant mechanical beasts in a specific order.]

Is it
wickedness?

Or is it
weakness?

You decide.
