I'm currently shiny hunting Eevee, and I bought the thing from the mall that lets me find eevee eggs in the tall grass. They're the same species, but the chain break checker still says that tall grass eggs would break my chain, and I can't seem to find an answer to that anywhere else in the answered questions ^^;

According to the PokéRadar page..

Important: Only eggs that are obtained from the Lab, the Daycare, the Gem Collector, the Safari, the Ancient Cave*, the Event Shop or found in the Tall Grass count for your chain.

*Excluding Harvest Sprites

~~~~~~
Which means those kind of eggs will only break your chain if it's a different Pokémon than the one in your current chain (i.e. NOT eevee, etc.) is..
So, if it's an Eevee (like on your chain, etc.) egg from the Tall Grass.. it will just count for your (i.e. Eevee, etc.) chain instead.
I won the "Event Spriting Contest" as it says on News Announcement #224.
What that means is if you were chaining another pokemon and you got an Eevee then your chain would break, but if you get an Eevee from the tall grass then it will count towards your chain.
Quote from Pokemon Gold/SilverYou know how pokemon have different abilities? People are like that too. Everyone has different potential.
