Niwa looked between the two. He blinked slowly. They seem... cold... A pit had formed in the bottom of his stomach. He didn't understand it.
Kitty was staring at something across the room. He tracked her gaze, and then-
The pit ground into his belly and all he could feel was anger. A Lucario. His evolved form, somebody strong, climbing to the top of the ranks-
Calm down, his brain urged him as he started moving forward. Calm down, stop it, you're going to-
He stopped in front of the Lucario. His palms clenched by his sides.
"Hello," he said coolly.
Niwa
Niwa breathed out with a loud puff.
"Yeah," he agreed softly. "You're right. Sorry." He refused to look at the Lucario. "You want to head out now...?"
Niwa Atsushi
Niwa's face flushed. A-Ack! Another Pokémon- touching me! What do I do, Rosii?! What do I do?!! Hoping to keep a straight face and a hold on his blushing, he started off for the hallway. "Come on, guys! I'll- I'll try and find it..." He longed to tug on one of his ears, but Kitty's grip was too tight. Is she nervous? Oh, gosh, I feel the same way- should I say it, though? What if I'm wrong and embarrassing myself?
Niwa guided the two of them down the hall, taking note of each of the doors. He mouthed each name silently, memorizing the numbers and positions for future reference.
She looked at Niwa and realized that she was nearly strangling his hand. "Oops! I'm sorry Niwa!" She let go of him and patted his head.
'I should probably go somewhere else'. She thought, as her ears flattened. She turned to walk down a different hallway.
Niwa Atsushi
She was leaving?! She was leaving?!
"A-Ah- don't we- don't we share-" Why was speaking so hard??? "First... First room...?" He stumbled over the words, cursing out his social anxiety. Ah! He must look such the fool. Just- maybe stop now. Please stop-
Instead, he cut off her escape, stepping in front of her. His brain melted. AGHHHHHHH
"No! I didn't want you to go away-" He gulped. "I mean, I would like to continue walking with you...? To our first.... room...."
She looked at Niwa and blushed. She felt terrible for making Niwa fluster.
Immediately she sighed and internally kicked herself. Ever since she got here, she had been all sorts of out of character. 'Get a grip on yourself Kitty.'
"Come on then, Niwa. I think we're almost there."
Niwa
"R-Right!" Niwa was growing increasingly terrified of his prospects. What was speaking?! How would he learn it for his future?! Would he stay a baby Pokémon forever, and even worse, be completely mute and incapable for the rest of his life???
The two of them made their way through the hall. They stopped in front of the first door.
Niwa breathed out sharply.
Here they were.
"Ladies first!" She chuckled nervously, and entered the room. Immediately she wanted to run.
'There are so many pokemon, and the room is so small and and...' Kitty flattened her ears. 'If I panic, Niwa might panic too...'
She forced herself to calm down and found a seat towards the back of the room.
Niwa
Niwa stuck close to her side, but he surveyed the Pokémon- or rather, his future competition. Most of them were so-called "baby" Pokémon, but a few had clearly evolved a time or two- It seemed the Pokeschool had all kinds.
He bit the inside of his cheek, trying to squash the jealousy surging up in his heart. He shouldn't be jealous. Most of them- most of them were probably evolved by stones! Used superior wealth to get ahead of those who played fair, like Niwa...
Played fair? The thought mystified him. Huh.
Niwa took a seat next to Kitty, planting himself firmly down on it, and pretending his chin didn't just barely hover over the surface of the desk. This is fine.
What is this class anyways? Obviously they weren't going to be learning something called 'math', so what were they going to be taught?
She cuts the Apricorn in half, and offers one part to Niwa. "Here Niwa, you want some? I picked them on my way here, so they are very fresh."
Without waiting for an answer, she turned and ate her half gracefully, careful not to make a mess. 'I may have problems at home, but that doesn't mean I don't have manners.' Her ears flattened at the thought of home.
'Oh mother, I promise I'll find a way... Please... hold on a little longer...' A single tear falls.
Niwa
Was... Kitty crying? Niwa peered closer, praying it wasn't so. But... nope. She was. Oh gosh, what should he do?
He nervously wrang out his paws. Confront her-? Ask her-? Or- should he-
His palms felt wet. He looked down. Whoops- he must've... burst it, then. He released a loud puff of air and fell back in his seat. Whatever. It wasn't his problem... at least...
She looked at Niwa. His paws were sticky and covered with the Apricorn, which covered the desk. She started to ask if he didn't like it, then realized that he looked nervous and frustrated.
She sighed and grabbed paper towels from the front of the class room and began cleaning up the mess. Wordlessly, she handed Niwa a paper towel for his hands, while grabbing another Apricorn from her bag, which she presented to him.
Another.
And another.
Were they footsteps?!
