Femi would've wanted me to come...?
No! They cut that off before they let it go further. They knew what being dead was like. They didn't care less if anyone paid homage to an image with them when they were a smiling, carefree toddler.
It's not me. I died Suko Nobu, not a relic of what Suko Nobu was as a child.
They could almost see the words on the piece of paper that'd spelled out their doom. Pulmonary Fibrosis, it whispered. Scarring to lungs. Irreversible. 3-5 years, expected lifespan.
Suko choked out a laugh.
And that was their secret. What they'd denied their whole time here. What the piece of paper they'd swiped that grim first day meant.
I've been dead since I was 14. There's no life for me. Nothing. And now, because I've been desperate to save the last year I have left, then Femi's dead. And soon, the rest will be too.
And was it worth it? No. Because it never meant anything.
And yet, I will not let my heart stop beating. I will continue to live, without meaning. This world will be mine to keep. Because those memories, my breaths, memories of Femi, everything- It's all I have left.
