“The Astral Infection...”

Show hidden content

The Astral Infection, as described by the host and user of the ability, is similar to a symbiotic relationship, as seen with various creatures on earth. The Infection, though caused by a single sort of single-celled attacker, has spread across a third of the body of the host. Due to effects that alter the mind of the host and anything infected, the host will attempt to flee from something that it cannot beat, simply due to the virus’ self-preservatory nature. In smaller organisms deemed ‘less important’ by the virus, they will do anything they can to defend the host or infected land from foreign invaders. If the host were to direct a bit of the virus into the earth or a tree or even another living thing, it would take only a few minutes for the infection to take effect. In animals, it starts by altering the instincts and brain, ordering it to defend the virus at all costs. Then, physical attributes start to change. Flesh may become a sickly dark purple, and eyes will change to see only heat and motion. Odd growths may appear across infected flesh, eventually sprouting into brutally sharp spikes that may be used for defense against an attacker. Teeth will be replaced by sharper growths, and the jaw is often altered to bite down more easily or harder on something. In the land around and in an infection, everything becomes a twisted version of itself; trees are replaced by large monoliths of fossilized and infected wood. The grass becomes purple, speckled with bright blue-and-orange patches of concentrated pathogen. Stone becomes further mauled, transforming into a safe haven for the virus to replicate freely. Upon entering the infected zones, one might feel as though they’re being crawled upon by thousands of insects. Then, the virus will slowly start to eat away at the flesh and skin, infected the individual and turning them against other invaders. The virus first fell from the sky, attached to a small meteor. The soon-to-be host found it, curious as to what it was. Due to being in such a small quantity, the virus was quick to infect the host. However, due to the true ability of the host, the virus was forced to make do with around a third of their body. This third ended as the left arm, shoulder, part of the face and head, and a bit of the torso. Large spikes have erupted from the host’s shoulder since, and one eye has been changed to the viruses’ liking. This gives the host an advantage in combat, though the virus does go into a panic-state when in any battles. The host’s natural ability was a simple, yet effective, resistance to nearly everything. Common infections stood no chance in the body, giving the Astral Infection a perfect vessel without competition. Though, due to the ability, the host was able to resist the virus for a great amount of time, before the infection gave in and allowed the host to maintain their body and mind.

Life’s Clay

Show hidden content

Life’s Clay is an ability that rapidly adapts the user to the environment around him. In the forest, for example, he might find his skeletal structure altered from climbing trees to hide. Or, in a desert, he might find his legs longer and more powerful, allowing him to sprint across the hot sand. However, due to being in neither of those areas, he has found himself with a sickly pale white shade of skin, a metabolism beyond compare, a large jaw that can never close correctly, eyes that spot everything easily in the dark, and limbs that reach out many feet past the normal length. Standing over six feet tall, the user is hunched at the upper back, his vertebrae poking out like spears, with his ribs doing the same thing along his sides. Mostly deaf and with enormous hands and claws, he’s got internal ears and a habit of ripping large objects apart. Any and all clothes hand loosely and baggy on his skeletal body, and a white Tragedy mask covers a face he finds hideous. Regarding his face, he quickly attempts to kill anybody who has seen it, hoping to keep them from “spreading his secret” and telling everybody to laugh at him. This is due to a childhood full of bullying, a single break in his nose at a young age ruining his life. Though he can speak in ASL, his hands are rarely used for anything but destruction and mobility, his sorrowful voice speaking most words in long, eerie sounds. Despite the immense strength and lethal power, the user is rather dull. Most common logic or sense is lost on him, leading to him being very aggressive when something goes over his head.

The Gladiator

Show hidden content

An ability that allows the user to enter a state of supreme speed and agility, if only for a minute or so. The ability also lends the user immediate knowledge of whatever weapon they’re holding, leading to a very lethal and dangerous opponent when facing them. However, despite the lethality of the ability, it comes at an occasionally dangerous cost: Energy use is doubled, leading to faster exhaustion and potential downtime, in bad cases. If the user works up a light sweat with Gladiator on, then they’ll be soaked with sweat when it wears off. If they find themselves trembling at the joints with the ability active, they’ll find their lunch coming up when it wears off. And if they throw out their lunch with the ability, the chance they’ll enter an exhaustion-caused coma arises.

“Friendship...”

Show hidden content

In the rare case of Angie, an ability may be proven useless or obsolete after comparison to a stronger ability that ends up at somebody’s use, even if it’s not theirs. For example, Angelina Vlaanheren’s ability allows her to surround herself with a small shield in moments of immense sadness. Though, that ability is rarely used due to Lukian, who acts as a shield, a sword, and a happy thought for the young girl. He can absorb blows and slashes alike, and has a natural resilience to many abilities, though that’s often overlooked by a weakness to sunlight. In sunlight, Lukian becomes very mortal to nearly any ability, and loses his own powers. The longer he stays in the sunlight, the slower he becomes, eventually turning to stone until moonlight falls upon him. Regarding his abilities, Lukian sports powerful physical attacks and great speed, paired with the ability to turn anything into a lethal projectile if in his hand. For example, if he picks up a rock and uses his ability, it will quickly reform and become reminiscent of a dagger, long and wickedly sharp. In a few cases of immense anger and aggression, Lukian has been seen breathing purple fire, though that was before he was faced with Angie.

Terror of the Usurper

Show hidden content

A psychological ability that allows the user to infiltrate a victim’s mind and gaze at their memories, even if long forgotten. To add, the user can “bring memories forward” and force the victim to see them again, though it’s slightly more difficult with forgotten memories. Physically, the power has no effect on the victim, though they can be subject to horrific hallucinations, schizophrenic hysteria, mania, and psychogenic pain.

The Fractured Seer

Show hidden content

The ability leaves a constant trail of afterimages after the user, which last around two seconds each in most cases. Sometimes, an image will split off from the rest and last a bit longer, up to two weeks in rare cases. When an image splits off, it will often display a message across the face, ranging from a word or two up to an entire four sentences. If an image were to pass through a person, the victim would quickly die, every organ shutting down after it was touched by the image. In one case, an image seemed to gain a mind of its own and wandered for a while through the woods before finding a few people and attempting to copy their faces. In that moment, a new fraction of the ability was found: If an image were to make eye contact with a person, it can force memories to be forgotten. For the user, the ability provides short glimpses of the future, though only if somebody is soon to be hurt.

Everseer, Watcher of the Void

Show hidden content

An ability unlike many others; the ability is reminiscent of certain myths that speak of a “staring soul” and “the void teller,” as well as “a perfect eye.” The ability itself is questionable in nature, seemingly only harming the user. Twice a day at random times, the user collapses in a coma-like state. During these times, the user is mentally cast into a space commonly unrecognizable, the Void. Due to a sort of instinct, the user has the urge to walk around, gazing upon various “streams” of what seems to be tar or oil. If he finds that one of these streams isn’t as it should be, he awakens rapidly and finds himself with immense amounts of energy, as well as the urge to sprint to some unknown location. When he arrives at said location, his appearance changes drastically. An enormous eye opens in the middle of his torso, the top at his collarbone and the bottom just above his waist. When this eye is open, the Void can be seen by anybody in the area, as it attempts to fuse with the world around it. The user is forced to work quickly, attempting to repair the anomalous stream in the area. In correlation with his sister’s ability, Archangel’s Blessing, Everseer grants another two eyes, one on each palm. These allow the user to greatly boost the “luck” granted by his sister’s ability, leading to them staying side by side quite often for better chances at everything and everything.

Archangel’s Blessing

Show hidden content

An ability that has no “on” or “off.” It’s constantly active, bringing an immense amount of “luck” to the user. Sometimes, the ability spikes, giving the user three sets of large, white feathered wings. These can be used for flight, and can be willed away, though it takes an immense amount of willpower to do so. Usually, the wings vanish after about two hours, simply folding up and vanishing behind the user’s back. In correlation with her brother’s ability, Everseer, the user finds herself with a constant set of dark feathered wings, which seem to help with manipulation of the Void when Everseer is most active.

The Ring of Resonance

Show hidden content

A large disc that hovers behind the user’s back. It can amplify and copy sounds that it “hears,” and reacts to each one uniquely. Lower notes will cause the inside of the ring to form “waves” that push towards the center of the ring, while higher notes cause numerous “teeth” to spike outwards. -> The user has taken a job as a DJ for hire, and is surprisingly popular at parties, simply due to the ring.

The Beholder, Mimic of Life: another body-manipulating ability, and likely one of the most disturbing on this page. Be advised.

Show hidden content

The Beholder is an ability that grants a disturbing sense of knowledge about the world around the user, and is reminiscent of the Beholders in legends; the user’s face has been mauled and covered with numerous amounts of eyes, each one a different color in iris. Each eye can move independently of others, giving many different view points on the world around them. Likely one of the most disturbing things about the ability is the fact that the user’s mouth has been covered entirely, and their nose has vanished, their face forming a flat plain of flesh and skin. Due to the lack of a sense of smell, the user is left without an important sense in a world that relies heavily on one, leading to some confusion in the user when people talk about scents. With a lack of a mouth, the user is left with two brutal options: Starve, or their ability; The Beholder grants a terrifying excuse for a mouth, which is located in the chest of the user. When closed, it appears as any normal human chest, aside from a few lines that seem to be scars at first sight. The lines tend to be seen as a cross, making some question if the user is religious. They are not. When opened, however, the mouth reveals its secret: Hundreds of large, razor sharp teeth line the edges of this mouth, which opens at the center of the sternum and splits four ways. Behind the massive jaws, there seems to be nothing; an endless black pit, seemingly willing to absorb anything that enters it. In addition to everything gone wrong with their body, the user has developed a taste for raw meat, claiming that it can better satisfy the Beholder, as there “is no flavor in raw meat.” Due to this craving, the jaws are nearly constantly lined with blood.

The Lost, The Forgotten, and The Judgement

Show hidden content

A single body, but a shared mind. All three of these names are of an individual spirit. In all reality, these “spirits” are Gods of their respective traits. The Lost, God of Life and Death, The Forgotten, God of Memory, and The Judgement, God of Balance. Each of them are bound to each other in fate, but none of them ever agreed to needing to share a single vessel. Each God can choose a vessel, though once they do, they are forced to stay with it until it dies. All three chose a single vessel, and fought for a good while over who should control it. Eventually, they came to a decision: For one day, one of the Gods got control of the vessel. They alternate each day, exactly at midnight, from The Lost to The Forgotten to The Judgement. Each one grants a special ability to the vessel, leading to a sort of split personality and activity in the vessel. The Lost grants a sort of life-or-death adrenaline rush when in danger, leading to much faster reaction speed and motion. The Forgotten grant a sort of typhokinesis, and grants a weak sort of mind reading. The Judgement is likely the most powerful, granting the ability to “judge” somebody. During a judgement, the vessel’s eyes glow brightly and the victim is forced to kneel. Depending on their life and choices, the vessel can label them “guilty” or “innocent.” If they are labeled guilty, a sort of paralysis takes control of them, chains soon crawling from the ground to wrap around them and pull them beneath the earth. If they are labeled innocent, they cannot be harmed until The Judgement is replaced with The Lost.

The Purified Flock, the Corrupted Swarm

Show hidden content

Tenacity and Kayda Green, a loving couple, and parents to a combination of their abilities; Kayda has the ability to split into a flock of birds, Tenacity housing Corruption and Purity, and carrying War and Death on his back. The fusion of these two abilities has created an interesting, if malicious and terrifying, ability. The user of this ability can split into airborne creatures at will, though it does sap energy if any die. Despite their father having physical differences in the Purity and Corruption, the user's two halves are completely identical, no dark flesh or light eyes in sight. However, there is a difference. The Purity and Corruption have come to peace with each other, and in fact have grown arguably stronger; The Purity splits into birds, like Kayda, though the Corruption splits into insects. The most common combination is Scarab Beetles and Blue Jays, a very opposite combination.

The Mind Electric

Show hidden content

"In my blood, there runs a current, an electric wrath of imperial force..."
The user's body contains an immense amount of electricity, and makes them immune to electric shock or otherwise electricity related harm. If a wound is opened, the electricity will "leak" very slowly, though the wound will heal rapidly as the electricity passes into the physical world, commonly colored red. After such an occasion, the user can choose to absorb electricity back into their body to replenish the lost voltage. The user can hold over 765,000 volts, usually the amount carried by high capacity power lines. On physical contact with the user, nothing will happen, aside from a small amount of static transfer. The user, if they so choose, can channel electricity through themselves and another conductor, forming a circuit and usually causing severe damage to the secondary conductor. In the case of another human, severe burns at contact points and usually cardiac arrest due to electric current passing through the heart and disrupting it's usual pattern.
