As you walk into the hospital, it smells strongly of dust and rot.
But there's one thing laying in the middle of the room. An old
record player with a disk sitting in it, but not playing.
Derek gagged, pulling the front of his sweatshirt over his nose.
"Smells terrible. Not as bad as my brother's room, though." He
chuckled, then took a hesitant step towards the record player. He
was strongly considering putting the pin down and playing it, but
it seemed to obvious. Plus, that would be a lot of noise. Somebody,
or something, could hear them and get them caught, likely arrested
for trespassing as well.
Ah, so you, O Mysterious
and Curious Soul, have come to seek answers in the abyss?
"Ugh." Denine made a face as the smell washed in. "This is.." she
coughed as some dust was stirred up by her foot, "Just gross." Her
ponytail swung as she looked around. "If I wasn't so curious, I
would leave," she muttered. She spotted the record player, but this
place was already creeping her out enough. She wasn't about to go
up and start it. What if it, she didn't know, was possessed by a
ghost or something? Denine didn't want to take any chances, so she
glanced back at the others, before slowly walking up to it, and
nudging it with her foot.
"Ahh!" Denine yelped, falling onto the ground, startled by the paw,
and the sudden noise. "What the heck?" Standing up and brushing the
dust off, she immediately ran back to the others. "This place is
either haunted, or there's someone else here because there's no way
I touched that." She shivered. "Do not touch that thing."
"Gibberish... Kinda like you when somebody talks about your uh..
Vertical challenge, Denine." He chuckled, waiting for the
girl to whip around and start punching him. Glancing around, he
scratched the back of his neck. "So, creepy record player, dusty,
smelly hospital. What next?"
Denine growled, and kicked him in the shin. "Derek, don't you dare
talk about that, or I'll give you a black eye! This is just a
warning." She folded her arms and glared at him. "I guess we could
keep exploring, though I doubt you have the brain capacity for
that." She glanced at the paper. "Ooh no, I'm not touching that.
Mr. I don't know when to keep my mouth shut can do it."
"You're awful scared for being a voice activated explosive, you
know." Stepping forward, Derek grabbed the paper. "Oooh, no, I
think the paper is possessing me!" He gave Denine a cheeky smile,
then stood up and stepped over. "I really think it's cursed. Maybe
it'll make you taller if you touch it?" He set it on her head,
which was conveniently placed. After a moment, he sighed, grabbing
the paper back. "It was worth a try," he joked. Only then did he
actually look at the paper.
His fur was a dull blue, his legs tinted a bit different. He had a
plum coloured scard wrapped around his neck, and his left eye was
blacked out with nothing but a small yellow 4 for a pupil. The
other was a deep brown.
"Derek, if I weren't your friend I really would hate you," Denine
snapped. She stood on her tiptoes. "What does it say, anyway?" With
Forrest's entrance, she screamed and jumped back. "Why do I keep
getting scared today?!" She folded her arms defensivley. "Who are
you?"
Derek glanced up from the note, looking at Forrest. "Nah, you look
more like a Four. It even says it on your eye!" He cracked a small
smile, then looked down at the note. "I can't read this, cuz,
y'know, it's a code. You mind reading it?" He held it out to
Forrest, partially ignoring Denine's attempts to look at it.
Denine was about to respond with a retort, but her eyes softened
when she heard what Forrest said. "Oh goodness, I'm so sorry!
But..what do you need us for?" She also made a note to try and
steal the paper from Derek, since he wouldn't let her see it
himself.
