Most Underrated Pokémon In History

Many Pokémon are considered weak and 'worthless'. The Pokémon itself can be anything from a frail Magikarp to a mighty Xerneas.

But why are so many Pokémon deemed worthless? Is it because they are weak, or is it because of the low stats of a few individuals?

If it is the latter, than the Pokémon is more likely to be underrated, not weak.

Underrated Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes. Underrated Pokémon deserve more attention. Here on this thread, I have begun a list of all the Pokémon I find to be underrated. The Pokémon on this list change every month

We're also doing a vote every month to decide what underrated Pokémon deserves to be put in the spotlight as the Underrated Pokémon Of The Month! There's a poll on my profile about what Pokémon should be highlighted. Vote while you still can!

Potential:(A short story on how you realized that this Pokémon is underrated)

And now, let the list begin!

Leafeon

Leafeon has almost always been considered to be the weakest Eeveelution, often due to its typing alone. Because of the media, most players fail to see the potential of this graceful fox.

In my save file on Omega Ruby, I play as a boy named Fennekin (Long story). My main Pokémon on that save file is, in fact, a Leafeon. I recieved her from a trade with a woman named Elena. She sent me a female Leafeon, level 17, and a male Eevee, level 10 I think. Eevee is now a Sylveon, and both are level 100. If you're reading this, Elena, thank you so much!

Leafeon was considered the leader of my team. Heck, even my Noivern, my shiny Mettagross, my Lapras, and even my Mewtwo couldn't stand up to her! You should see her Leaf Blade attack, and make sure to look away when she uses Return or Solar Beam, because that is BRIGHT!

My Leafeon specializes in speed, defense, and HP, like most of her kind. Her attack and Special. Attack are in the higher ranks as well. She strikes hard and fast, one-shotting all foes. I honestly can't remember the last time she got hit in battle!

Most trainers consider all grass-type Pokémon to be beneath them. Well come at me, hypocrites! My Leafeon will take you on ANY DAY!

Breloom

Just one look, and you turn away.

WORST. MISTAKE. OF YOUR LIFE.

Breloom is, once again, an opponent you should NEVER turn your back on. One wrong move, its fists uppercut you. Another wrong move and oh! Look! You've been poisoned and you're now delirious! Another wrong move, and you're DEAD.

Breloom is an AMAZING Pokémon, and it hurts to see the way it's treated. An OC of mine, Ecco, had a Breloom for his partner. Ecco's entire team is made of underrated Pokémon, ON PURPOSE. In fact, Ecco's favorite quote is "They may not be the Pokémon most would expect, but they work hard and get things done. THAT'S what makes a Pokémon good."

Ecco speaks the truth, y'all! you'll be hearing a lot more from him in this list!

Ecco's Breloom, Akire (I made the name up and I love it) was found as a Shroomish. It took Ecco TEN YEARS to learn that Akire was a GIRL! (Men are so dense sometimes *eyes move over to Ash suspiciously*)

Akire mostly relies on her durability, her speed and grace, and, of course, her FISTS. Once, when infiltrating an enemy base, Akire stood her ground against a freaking RHYPERIOR! Rhyperior drilled into the ground again and again to cause a cave-in, and Breloom grabbed the walls with her fists, brought out the most vines she'd ever used, and worked to keep the cavern steady long enough for Ecco and everyone else to escape.

This super-shroom needs some hugs, peeps. Why not give it one and add a Breloom to your team?

Archeops

Would you look at that, it's Archeops! Hey, Ecco, don't you have an Archeops?

Yes, I do, Ivory. His name is Zaya.

That's amazing. What's Zaya like?

Zaya's a real teamplayer, that's for sure. Back when he was still an Archen, my mentors Grimm and Pines-you remember them, right?-well, they helped me create a special training regimen for Zaya. It helped him strengthen his wings before flight, which improved his ariel abilities before he even evolved. That's actually why he's much better in the air than most Archeops.

Now THAT sounds awesome, Ecco! Think you could tell us a bit more about Zaya?

I found Zaya's fossil in a desert, back when I was just starting to take my Pokémon training seriously. It was life and death, and I couldn't afford to slack.

It was storming out, Akire was tired, and Wakar, who had only recently evolved into a Servine, was suspicious. The sandstorm wasn't normal, we already knew that. What we DIDN'T know was that it was created by a herd of Tyranitar, who were under attack by an invading group of Krookodile. While helping the Tyranitar, I found out that one of them was caring for a newborn Larvitar. It shook me to the core to learn that the baby had been poisoned by one of the Krookodile. During the fight, my team and I got trapped under some rubble, along with the Larvitar. That was where we found Zaya's fossil. I gained two new friends that day, Zaya, my Archeops, and Tyra, the very Larvitar that'd been poisoned by the Krookodile. *chuckles* If only I knew how stubborn that girl would grow up to be.

Thanks, Ecco. That was a very interesting (and long) story. What is Zaya like as a fighter?

Loyal, smart, and fierce. During a battle with a Wailord, I was separated from Zaya, and we all thought he'd drowned. I was heartbroken. Imagine my shock when Zaya found his way back to me from the other side of the Country!

Zaya's loyalty has no bounds, I've noticed. When he was younger, he was shy and often got scared at the idea of facing opponents larger than him. Now, I'm always having to stop him from nearly getting killed!

Sounds like Archeops is a hard Pokémon to train, huh?

You have no idea, Ivory. To those of you considering an Archeops, I recommend it. Yes, they take a long time to train, and even longer to become friends with, but I promise you, the reward is MORE than worth it.

Klefki

Klefki is underrated because of the fact that it doesn't excel in battles.

The thing is, battles aren't the only thing Pokémon are good for. They're also friends, family-members, pets, actors, artists, you name it!

In the XY arc of the Pokémon Adventures Japanese manga, Y's mother Grace is shown to have found a Klefki that helps her and the entirety of Vaniville Town escape the clutches of Team Flare.

Klefki can also be used for many other things. It is small and inconspicuous. If you trained one to be a spy, nobody would expect it. Because why on Earth would an innocent little Klefki be used for something so important?

The moral of this list is to show that ALL Pokémon are useful. just because one specimen doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's worthless, it probably just means you're training it wrong, or that it might not be the best fit for you.

Most Underrated Pokémon Of The Month

PIDGEOT

Pidgey and its evolutionary line HASto be one of the most Underrated Pokémon OF ALL TIME. The main reason for this is because Pidgey is COMMON.

That's it. How close-minded can people GET!?

Despite what others may say, Pidgey and its evos are AMAZING. I'm currently doing a Nuzlocke run of Pokémon X, and my first capture was a male Pidgey. I named him Soma, a Japanese name for 'wind.' Right now, he's a Pidgeotto and, at level 43, my strongest Pokémon.

Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and Pidgeot all specialize in Ariel combat. That means they speed through the air on narrow wings. The sleeker and narrower the wings, the more speed they'll be able pick up and the sharper their turns will be. These Pokémon attack by diving at their enemies again and again, striking them with sharp talons and powerful beaks. Does that sound weak to you? If you're a strategist, I suggest you check out a Pidgeot. These fierce falcons will prove any doubt you have wrong in a matter of moments.

Pokémon: Solgaleo
Any specifics: no
Potential: I see that Solgaleo never gets as much attention as Lunala. I find Solgaleo as a adorable cosmic lion that never gets as much love. I think it's overlooked because of the fact that it's just another cat like Pokemon perhaps, but I'm not 100% sure.

Pokémon: Mew
Any specifics: No
Potential: This Pokémon is the cutest, most power-packed bundle of pink you’ve ever seen. It has SO much potential in competitive (of course, if it was allowed). You could have it as a really good sweeper through EV training, a good tank, or even a set-up pokemon. Everyone is talking about Mewtwo and all that, but what about mew? Mew is just freaking AWESOME and deserves more love than it gets. I just don’t feel like it gets enough attention.

Pokémon: Lanturn
Any specifics: No
Potential:(A short story on how you realized that this Pokémon is underrated)

I did a run of Pokemon Ruby when I was little, and my brother gave me a Chinchou as my fist 'mon (We had a 'no starters' rule to make the game more interesting). Chinchou honestly surprised me with its power, defeating the first and second gyms no problem. The third gym was hardest, and Chinchou nearly fainted, but evolved into a Lanturn and defeated Wattson in the end. To this day, Lanturn is one of my favorite pokemon.

Pokémon: Phanpy
Any specifics: Nah
Potential:(A short story on how you realized that this Pokémon is underrated)

I first got into Pokemon in second grade. A girl (that ironically, had the nicest parents ever and still bullied me during 4th and 5th grade) had told me about this awesome card game where you could collect magical creatures and battle with them. I was super hyped. I had my mom buy me a rare shiny Pikachu card, I got a binder, and I was amazed at the potential of the game. While in the phase, one of my best friends gave me his old Diamond/Pearl Pokedex since he didn't need it anymore. I was having fun looking at all the Pokemon, but I stopped at Phanpy.

I'd always loved elephants. My first word was literally "elephant". I was so excited that there were baby elephants even in the world of Pokemon. Whenever the topic of favorite Pokemon came up, it was always Phanpy.

For a few years, I forgot about Pokemon- but then, in sixth grade, the comic store opened up. I put together a deck and began competitive battling- and no mater what, there was always an elephant Pokemon on my team. When Cufant was introduced to Sword/Shield, I was psyched. More elephants!

So, I guess I'll just be an elephant lover forever, but what's wrong with that?;)

Pokémon: Tranquil
Any specifics: this pokemo is the middle evo of pidoves line
Potential:(A short story on how you realized that this Pokémon is underrated) every Pokémon fan I’ve asked “what Pokémon is tranquil?” Or “what is pidoves middle evolution?” They never know. I believe that tranquil is the most underrated. Everyone knows unfezant because of the magnificent head crest, and pidoves for being the least favorite bird. But everyone forgets tranquil. This poor bird is never used, never talked about, and deserves this title. Because, tranquil survived a lot of my shield play through. It took an ice fang from a level 100 string jaw dracovish, and it survived. And that is an impressive feat
