Am I missing something or is there just not a way to clear the old notifications?

If you go to your profile, and hover over on a notification, an option to delete will appear. It's hard we on mobile, but you should be able to just click on the feed and click delete.

However, if you are talking about notifications that are not one of your feeds, there is no way to get rid of them. You can, however simply click on the filters for you notifications to filter through them. Additionally, it will tell you how many notifications are in the certain filter. Keep in mind, you can only see a max. Of 20 notifications, but you can click the option after scrolling to the bottom of the notification page. It says the words 'show more's on it.

Yeah I was talking about the auction house notifications and stuff. I just like to keep stuff clean and clear and my notifications are getting extra cluttered with them :,(

Yes, there is no way to delete notifications like that. Again, you can filter through them, but unfortuntely only one filter may be placed at a time.
