The game starts with 2 rows of dots in a 8x16 board, meaning 16 starting dots. This might go up depending on difficulty choice.
The dots are different colors and you have to select at least 3 dots of the same color to remove them.
The dots you choose have to be adjacent to one you already chose, or anywhere if you haven't chose one yet.
While this is happening, more colored dots are falling from above.
When you connect dots, control doesn't stop, and it will take 1 extra second to make the next dot fall.
The way to deal more "damage" is to clear multiple colors of dots before the next dot falls.
This "damage" I speak of alters the position of dots in the enemy field by placing gray dots at the bottom.
To get rid of these gray dots, you have to clear dots next to them.
below medium difficulty, only 3 non-gray colors are used. In medium and medium-hard, 4 are used. In hard and very hard, there are 5 colors.
Easy, Medium-hard and very hard all start you off with only 8 dots.

But there's modes where some colors aren't used...
Oh well, the only times 3 colors are used in story mode play are the tutorial stages and the first 2 stages of act 1, so it shouldn't matter too much.
