Social points sound like they should be pretty obvious; interacting with other people (and not in the clicking sense). But instead they're just extra points you get for winning auctions or trading Pokemon, of which the former requires almost no social interaction at all.

I'd like to propose a new system for Social Points; for this new system, each separate forum post would count as an extra point, and the point limit would be slightly increased to account for this (though by how much I don't know). Comments on others' feeds or feeds themselves should be worth either half a point (that is, gain a point per two of these actions) or be worth one point, with the other criteria for Social Points giving twice as many points (and the limit would be twice as high, of course). I believe this would incentivize people to take a more active role on the forum; for a site with over a hundred thousand registered users, the forum activity is shockingly low. There's the added benefit of making the Social Points be what they sound like, too, to avoid confusion.

Edit: tomowa has suggested a new category of points specifically for inter-user transactions like trading, which could be expanded to include things like item trading/gifting.

I support this idea but I think some things would have to be worked out. Some people would likely spam the forum or comment repeatedly on a feed for points, which could be an issue.

There are a hundred thousand registered users, but usually there's only 200-500 users online at any given time. The forum is active in the RP section or games section, and somewhat active in other sections.

But yeah, the Social Points don't make sense to me either. They're not really social because, like you said, winning an auction doesn't usually require actually talking to people and sometimes you can trade without saying anything, either.

Maybe there should be a new category for GTS points?

I thought double posts just got edited into the previous post? If not, then yes, spam filtering would be an issue.

And having so few active users isn't a good thing at all. Take Spacebattles, for example. Though it has an advantage in that it's been around for nearly two decades, it still only has 78k members- and despite that, 4000 currently active users (of which 2700 are registered).

GTS points isn't really general enough in scope to cover auctions as well, though. Maybe just Trading points. And this could be expanded to include item trades/gifts as well.

They just don't show up immediately, so users can't just spam the Forum and get rewarded for it (;

And if it involves an exchange between two users, it counts as "social", even if no actual talking is involved. If a difference needs to be made, the GTS/Auction stuff is more likely to just end up under the "Other" umbrella, rather than with its own category.
