"I should hope so." Ella mused to the only male in the cart. "Also
it's not too bad to die or so I have been told." She said as her
magic accidentally froze the window to her side in her not obvious
panic.
"If you count the patrol ghosts." Simone muttered, looking for her
dagger.
Opehlia nodded, muttering an incantation. Claws of bone began
popping up around the vines, tearing at then as Ophelia's eyes
glowed a sort of red, and a red mist formed around her.
Carolina's eyes darted back and forth as she attempted to keep
track of the incoming vines. Somewhat tuning into surrounding
conversation, she became distracted with a simple "What?" To
Simone's comment, lowering her guard. At that moment, a vine
crashed through the window beside her, causing her to release a
startled gasp as she threw up her hands. This triggered her
Molecular Immobilization, stopping the vine in front of her. (Not
sure if considered bunnying but freeze)
"Oh- watch out, girl!" Simone said, jumping slightly. She didn't
have anything to protect Carolina with, instead, she reached to
stop another vine from breaking the window. "Nice! You stopped it
yourself!"
Carolina angrily grunted as she lowered her hands.
"I don't know how to control this power yet, but it seems to be a
fear response." she admitted, the vine unfreezing a few seconds
afterwards.
“Patrol ghosts? Doesn’t sound like they’d be too helpful.” He then
muttered a bit under his breath, correxting himself on being
more accurate with his descriptions. Didn’t the sxhool guide and
rulebook say something about a train guardian? Maybe he was
mistaken, it certainly wouldn’t have been the last time. He would
have went on—if not for the comment from ella fully sinking in.
“Charming as death may be, I believe we’d all rather not die just
yet. If I’m not over-assuming, ladies?” He turns to the girls
facing the vines. They seemed to be using magic...eyeah, Alaa was
definitely staying away from that. Magic and curses were so fickle,
especially in the hands of the untrained.
And suddenly, the vines would just stop growing. The thick wall of
vines started to go back into the ground. Kona Uku dashed over to
the entrace of the car train and opened the door, quickly getting
inside.
"Sorry! Im late!" He yelled, and left his backpack on the ground
randomly. He then looked over to the vines through the window.
Seems like they were dissappearing faster now that he was close to
them. "The vine things should all be gone at a minute." He said in
a optimistic tone.
Carolina scoffed at Kona Uku’s apology. “Leave it up to the plant
boy to ruin the first 10 minutes of this never-ending ride.” she
commented loudly. She fixed her hair by tightening her ponytail and
flicked it behind her shoulder.
“So those were yours?” Alaa sheathes his shiv, but he doesn’t put
it away just yet. “Yanno, that could’ve been awful dangerous! If
the train was going full-speed, you coulda broken your neck or
something!”
This coming from a guy who didn’t know magic much at all. He was
probably making crap up, given the rarher personal nature of magic
in their world. The young thief couldn’t quite wrap his head around
individual and somewhat standardized practice of magic. That’s it
really.
“...Where did those vines come from anyway? Underground?” Ah
fridge logic.
"Aah, yeah!" Kona Uku answered Alaa's first question and started to
try and fix his hair. It was messy from running right next to a
train, but since it was literally grass, it was always messed up.
"Uh, kinda? I can make that stuff up and erase it right after." He
answered.
"You mean it just comes in like--" he snaps his fingers together on
his right hand, but Alaa's eyes were right on the other boy.
"--that?" Interesting. He might have to look on up on that magical
summoning school later. Which was just as likely until the young
thief got distracted with the next shiny thing. Priorities man,
gotta have your priorities.
Carolina flinched at the snap produced by Alaa.
"Oh, my God, I'm losing my mind..." she mumbled, standing up
finding a seat as far away as possible from them. "Literally being
so friendly and we've been here for 15 minutes."
“Unkindness won’t get you anywhere. Unless you’re guaranteed to go
to EVil, like me.” Ophelia muttered, playing with a blank voodoo
doll.
“Evil? You just seemed rebellious to me. Like a Magician’s kid.”
Simone said.
“No, I’m the kid of a voodoo master. Am evil one.” Ophelia frowned,
facing out the window.
“Oh... but anyway, kidnaplrt guy- what’s your name?- summoning
magic works like this. The caster pulls from their energy to summon
something.” Simone nodded.
“Not exactly, Simone. Don’t try to sound smart when you don’t know.
Please.”
Alaa looked between Simone and Ophelia, though his grin faltered
ever so slightly at still being called the 'kidnapper guy'.
Summoning magic had to do with energy being used, or possibly so?
He looks over to plant-summoner and then at voodo-girl again.
"Energy, you say?"
“She asked your name, mister.” Ophelia pointed out. “But not for
me. I use necromancy and voodoo. For necromancy, I have a tome, and
an amulet-“ she paused to pull the bottom of the amulet from under
her shirt to show. “Which takes a small portion of energy for me.
It can manifest in ways like personality, my eyes glowing, or
physical tiredness. But drawing that energy relies on sort of a
‘spirit’ I have, which I sort of inherited. In a sense. That’s the
short version, I don’t like spilling secrets to strangers.
Strangers who don’t listen.”
"Not evil, just not in the mood to deal with it." Carolina said
dryly, running her hand down the length of her ponytail. She sat
back and stared vacantly out the train car window only to turn
back, deciding it'd be in her benefit to make mental note of those
around her for future encounters.
"Voodoo Girl... Wanna-Be-Know-It-All... Psychopath... and Vine
Guy." she whispered to herself.
"My name's Alaa. I suppose it's just as fine that you haven't heard
of me." He quickly introduces himself, and then he laughs. It seems
almost absurd, but he had the strangest feeling that all five of
them would keep bumping into one another on school grounds, one way
or another. "And huh, like that... Emotions can do something with
magic too right? Like that animated movie about a princess,
freaking out and BAM!--ice everywhere." Of course, as the
thief says this, he looks over to the witch.
She had briefly frozen the window in their car, and just as quickly
unfroze it when she realized. Something to keep in mind, he was
sure.
[Assuming Alaa is talking about Carolina,] Carolina looked directly
at Alaa as he looked over towards her. "You'd be right about that.
I can't speak for everyone else, but most of my powers have
emotional triggers: Telekinesis is anger, Freezing is panic or
fear... Levitating is kind of -- natural?" she explained.
“I say we have an introduction time, seeing as we were temporally
delayed and have a while to go.” Simone smilled, eyes darting to
and from everyone in the car. “I’ve seen that movie. Princess
Elizabeth and Adrianna, right?” She asked Alaa for
confirmation.
Ophelia rolled her eyes, opening a tome and reading.
"I see!" His eyes twinkled, given that his suspicions were
correct--in a sense. "And aye, had a lot of singing and such."
Introductions though, he could agree with. But he too, looked
around to the others. Though...didn't Carolina (the emotional
witch) say something about 'being friendly' and having trouble with
it? How curious.
