Dawnpelt thought silently for a moment before speaking again. " At least we'll be in contact from now on. I wonder why we didn't reach out to them earlier, " she pondered out loud. Her ears pricked at the screech of the nearby hawk, but thought nothing of it.


Duskwind heard the commotion and abandoned his pursuit of his rabbit to follow the noise. " Woah! " he meowed in shock as he saw the tangle of fur and feathers that was Ashpelt on the hawk. He rushed forward to help, leaping onto an outstretched wing of the hawk.

The hawk screeched once more, and was grounded. Ashpelt then delivered a killing blow, and the hawk fell to the ground dead. Ashpelt panted, he was bleeding from his left shoulder, and had some fur missing on his muzzle, and flank. "T-thanks, Duskwind" he panted quickly, and licked his paw to draw it across his muzzle.

Tigerstripe nodded, and looked up. She then looked up at the sound, and shook her head. "I'm sure we'll be in contact with them more" she meowed kindly, and got to her paws. "I'm going to go ahead, and get back to camp. I'll see you guys there" she meowed and ran off towards camp.

" Geez, Ashpelt, couldn't wait to try out some Pineclan moves on your own?, " Duskwind said, spitting feathers out of his mouth. " You're lucky I was nearby, " he said, sniffing at Ashpelt's wounds. " You should get back to Dawnpelt, I'll drag this thing to camp, " Duskwind offered.


Dawnpelt nodded as Tigerstripe padded off, and looked to the bushes for the return of the rest of her patrol.

"I saw the mouse and the hawk went for it as I lept" Ashpelt said in embarrassment. He then sighed and looked for Dawnpelt.

Tigerstripe went to the medicine den. "Greenbush I'm back" she called and remembered Ashpelt's concern for Dawnpelt. "Ashpelt wants us to check on Dawnpelt" she mewed outloud.

" Well, this is quite the trophy for your efforts!, " Duskwind praised, as he picked up the hawk by the wing, biting down near the shoulder of the hawk. " I'll see you back at camp, " he said through muffled words, and began dragging the bird in the direction of camp. I wish I had the chance to catch a hawk like that..., he said to himself, his thoughts floating back to the mountain clan.

Ashpelt nodded a thanks, and licked his shoulder to get rid of the stained blood. He then partially limped to where he last seen Dawnpelt.

Greenbush peeked out of the den. "Oh, you're back!" He meowed cheerfully, looking at Tigerstripe. "Welcome back. Ashpelt wants us to check on Dawnpelt, you say?" His eyes gleamed with amusement. "Fine, where is she? Do you know?"

"I think they're still near turtle rock hunting" Tigerstripe meowed kindly. She then flicked an ear and picked up on his amusement. "Maybe we should check on her when she gets back to camp. After all, they'll be back shortly" she meowed and noticed Duskwind walking back into camp.

Dawnpelt meowed in shock as she saw Ashpelt, rushing to his side. “ What on earth happened to you? We’re you attacked?,” she asked him frantically, while licking his wounds.


Duskwind dragged the hawk through the bramble tunnel and into camp, leaving it next to the existing fresh kill pile. “ Hey everyone! Check out what Ashpelt caught!,” he meowed to the nearby Desertclan cats.

Greenbush nodded in agreement. "Let them hunt, in sure it's nothing too serious." He shrugged and sat down, licking his paw. "We'll check on her once she gets back. But anyway, how was the mountain?" He asked curiously.

Ashpelt sighed and flicked an ear in slight embarrassment. "I...I uh went to catch a mouse, but a hawk was hunting it to. If it weren't for Duskwind I'd be worse off" he meowed softly. "Though we have a mouse, and a hawk on the kill pile now" he added trying to sound more cheerful.

Tigerstripe nodded to Greenbush, and sat down. "I helped deliver a litter in their clan, and their medicine cat gave me a few more tips." She meowed cheerfully.

Dawnpelt buried her nose in Ashpelt’s fur. “ I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank Starclan for Duskwind...come, let’s get you back to camp.” She purred as she walked close beside him. “ Pineclan would be impressed,” she added, trying to make Ashpelt feel better.

Ashpelt nodded he felt exhausted from the whole event with the hawk. He then licked Dawnpelt between the ears, and purred. "Yeah let's get back to camp" he meowed in agreement, and laughed. "You really think PineClan would be impressed" he said softly, and added in a joking tone "maybe I should join them...nah I'd miss you to much" he purred.

"They used raspberry leaves to ease the pain when the kits come" Tigerstripe meowed gently, "and white lilies for wounds"

Greenbush nodded. "Raspberry leaves are good for that. But I don't think we've ever used white lillies, have we?" He glanced at Tigerstripe. "The same flowers in the flower cave."

“ I forbid you to join another clan,” Dawnpelt said, suddenly a bit too serious. “Besides...Desertclan needs you more, Ashpelt,” she added more softly, wrapping her tail with his. They approached the camp entrance and she led her mate through the bramble tunnel and towards the medicine cat’s den.

"I wouldn't leave you" Ashpelt purred gently, and looked up as Tigerstripe saw the two walk into the medicine den. He then stopped, and nudged Dawnpelt affectionately. He sat down, and looked at Tigerstripe, and Greenbush.

"What in the name of StarClan happened to you!" Tigerstripe meowed in shock, and glanced at Ashpelt.

Tigerstripe nodded, and went over to Ashpelt. She sniffed the warrior closely, and sighed. "He'll be fine. The only real wound he has is on his shoulder, and his fur will grow back" she meowed reassuringly to Dawnpelt. "Though for next time..." She added, and glanced at Ashpelt purring slightly. "Make sure you have wings, or a clanmate with you before you tackle a hawk" she meowed kindly, and went towards the back of the den to get marigold, and cobwebs for Ashpelt's wound.
