First of all,
yes
I KNOW there are HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of Mining suggestions, but most of them are unexplained, and this one is my view of a Mining suggestion.

Actual suggestion

Okay so, on the Town-tab, there could be a "Underground" section. There, there could be a minigame that could look like this:

basically the cannon mining minigame. But without pickaxe and all that jazz.

Now, if you brought a pickaxe on the Emera Mall, you could click a rock on the map and or nothing, or a item will come out.

The items can rage from gems,key and boxes to plates and fossils.

So, you will be able to dig 10 rocks for starters. After you dig the 10 rocks, you will have to wait until the digging stuff recharges.

Pickaxe alternatives:

Maybe, you could buy other pickaxes on the mall too. A "Tracking Pickaxe", maybe. You can freely change from normal to tracking. With the tracking pickaxe, you can chose which item you wan't to dig, and sparkles will appear on a few rocks. HOWEVER, there is a big chance that, even if you dig a sparkled rock, nothing will come out.

I miss diamond/pearl/platinum, I loved the mining ;^; and the spiritomb wells, and odd keystones...
