To be honest I don't understand this breeding and shiny talk because there's still some concepts involving pokemon that I haven't learned enough about.
I've also never battled actual people e.e I might consider it sometime after I beat the Elite Four in Pokemon X. I don't know what to expect, and I'm afraid of my pokemon getting smashed.
Currently, the next gym I have to challenge is #8.
I have to say this game is quite a cakewalk compared to the others I've played. My highest level pokemon are 66 and 72, and my lowest is 53 only because it was a late addition to my team!
I foresee my pokemon wiping the floor with the ice type gym. Especially since they chewed up the other gyms' pokemon and left no scraps for the scavengers :I Is it weird that I feel guilt when I annihilate little grass-types with Charizard? ;;
The EXP share was really a big help, and I like that pokemon gain experience when I catch other pokemon. I wish they came up with that earlier, because catching a pokemon is quite the battle itself sometimes!

@Flarimew: What do you mean by good? Do you need a Pokémon that is balanced, or powerful in a specific stat?

You should probably try to complete the Kalos Dex to get the Oval Charm (raises breeding chances) and go for the National Dex for the Shiny Charm (raises shiny chances). I mean, the slogan is "Gotta catch 'em all!"
EDIT: Also, have you checked out Kiloude yet?

I sort of wish they had included a Battle Frontier type of thing, like in Emerald. I could spend twice the amount of hours I put in beating the game just on that island. xD
