We already know each other's characters, but just for convenience, I'll make a brief description of each one that has been introduced so far:

CarpetMonster:
Tryp - Half-diamond Chimera with a lion's head, a sheep's body, and a snake for a tail. The snake annoys him some of the time. Despite having been partly turned into diamond, he managed to avoid being immobilized because the Grootslang was slain, and is now perfectly mobile despite being partially crystalline. He researches other kinds of monsters, which is helpful in explorations; he is particularly interested in therianthrocephalists.
Volensprocellaavis - A red storm eagle who was once enslaved by the Grootslang but was freed thanks to the combined efforts of Tryp and Zero. She uses lightning magic, and is more knowledgable about general magic than others, though she sometimes seems to think that they know as much as her and ends up confusing them both.

Locke:
Zero - Some sort of bizarre feline creature that even Tryp can't recognize, with a tuft of fur sticking out of her heat, a pair of tiny wings that aren't big enough to fly, and a thin, lionlike tail. She doesn't believe in magic, and her skill with pointy objects played a key role in defeating the Grootslang.

Should we continue the cave system part that ended up dying, or should we make a completely new part?

Ah. Okay. XD
How about something involving the black dog (if you see it once, happiness; twice, sorrow; thrice, and something will cause your death)? Obviously, we'd have some sort of spin on it, but is this good for a basic idea for the antagonist?

(We didn't even plan the start of the plot yet. XD Oh, well. I suppose we can make it up as we go along. XD)

"Zero! Tryp! There's an emergency!" Volensprocellaavis called as she swooped down after searching for any possible explorations on which they might go.

"The very deadly kind or the only sorta deadly kind?" Zero asked.

"VERY deadly!" the storm-eagle said. "Others have reported seeing a mysterious canine creature, excitedly bringing their friends to see it, and then disappearing at some point later. After the second time they saw it, they all sank into a deep depression until the third time, when they finally just... vanished."
"How eerie," Tryp noted. "I'd rather not meet this canine creature, but I suppose we must if we are to save the other beings around here..."

(This is already making me think of Slenderman. XD Does he qualify as a myth? It's also vaguely similar to the basilisk, especially the Harry Potter version...)

(XD)

"In the mountains bordering the village," Volensprocellaavis said.
"Let me guess... We're going to see this black dog..." Tryp said.
"Y-yes... How did you know it was black? I don't believe I've mentioned that detail," Volensprocellaavis replied.
"I- I study a lot of monsters, so I learned about one with these abilities before," he said.

Tryp laughed uneasily, nodded, and began to walk towards the mountains.

"It lives in the mountains. The first time you see it, it will bring you great happiness. The second time you see it, you will fall into a great sadness shortly afterwards. The third time you see it will be your last: a chain of events will lead you your near-immediate death. It's possible to prevent this death, but at a terrible price," Tryp said calmly.
"The myth I heard never mentioned anything about preventing the death," Volensprocellaavis noted.

"Suffice it to say that you do not want it to happen," Tryp said, continuing to walk.

"Than we have to search around for it a bit, or maybe itll appear on its own. Tryp you studied the myth, is it just going to appear?"
