Recently I had caught a shiny Burmy at the Honey Tree which soon evolved into a Wormadam. I clicked on it to see it's profile before I boxed it, but when I clicked it, it gave me the page saying it had been successfully released.
I didn't try to release it at all. It didn't even the load the profile for me.

Shinies [or pokémon in general] don't release themselves. Especially not by simply visiting their profile.
