Creamstar slowly started to regain consciousness and weakly
stumbled out of Badgertail's mouth. She started stumbling across
the camp, and managed to flee. She ran to a nearby lake (handy) and
padded in to rest. She turned over on her belly to breathe, and
fell asleep, dreaming about her clan settling down and having a
great time.
Diamondkit squealed and woke up, coughing. "Why are you-*cough*-
carrying me??" She wriggled and screamed "WHERE'S MY MOMMY???"
Diamondkit jumped out of Bluefeather's mouth and ran away from the
clan. She ran and ran, panting and gasping for breath, that she was
more than happy to see her mommy floating in a pretty lake, away
from the flames, smoke and clearly enjoying her nap. Diamondkit
splashed in and paddled around a bit. She loved the feel of the
fresh, crisp water flowing against her coat. She turned over on her
back and started playfully playing with a dandelion-puff-ball
floating in the air. After a while of fun and swimming, she,
exhausted, turned over on her belly and fell asleep, puffing tiny
bubbles in her sleep. (Awwwwwwe! <3)
Stormfly jolted awake at Creamstar's call. She felt her fur stand
up in surprise as she dashed out of the den and to the camp exit.
But as she did, she heard a muffled cry that came from within the
apprentice's den. Oakpaw!
She turned to try to save her apprentice, but as she did, a gray
blur shot past her. She watched as the cat she recognized as
Thunderlight dive into the den. Oh StarClan, please help
them!
Inside, Thunderlight looked down at the motionless apprentice. He
didn't know if Oakpaw was alive or not, but there was no time to
check. He grabbed the apprentice by the scruff of the neck and
nearly choked, as smoke was filling his lungs. He dragged Oakpaw
out and nearly collapsed to his paws, gasping for breath. Stormfly
ran over and helped him pick up the apprentice and carry him out of
camp. They hurried to join the rest of their Clan and set Oakpaw
down. "Is... is he alive?" Stormfly asked worriedly.
Thunderlight didn't answer and rested his head on Oakpaw's throat
to listen for breathing. He could hear some, but it was shallow.
"Barely," he replied before coughing a little.
Badgertail obediently let go of Creamstar as she wriggled out of
his grasp and gasped for air. The smoke was billowing in fast and
he couldn't see at all now. Every step he took lead to more
light-headedness. He was about to give in when an inner voice
demanded him to keep moving. He closed his eyes and dashed forward,
his fur getting caught in some branches, when he stumbled into
clearer air. He heaved and stumbled forward, hardly able to stay on
his feet. He sat down and took some deep breaths. Though it wasn't
going to do anything long-term, it helped to clear his head.
However, his eyes soon shot open at the commotion Thunderlight and
Stormfly made. He stood up again and limped over to the three cats.
"Is Oakpaw okay?" he wheezed, looking down at the young
apprentice's limp body. Hopefully he would be fine.
[ghh sorry X`D
also Badgertail's "inner voice" is just his thoughts, nothing
special]
Stormfly didn't answer. She was horrified for her apprentice; she
didn't want to speak.
"N-Not quite... he must've breathed in too much of the smoke.
Where's Bluefeather?" Thunderlight responded, feeling his claws
sink into the earth. He was shocked a fire had suddenly taken
place; he hated to see his Clanmates get hurt like that.
Badgertail lifted his head and looked around. Despite the clear
air, a hint of cloudiness blurred his vision and made it difficult
to see. "I... I can't see her," he rasped. "I'm sorry... I think I
remember her mentioning that honey can soothe throats," he offered.
"I could find some."
Badgertail nodded and looked at Stormfly. "Thank you," he meowed
hoarsely and turned. The forest was still burning, so they couldn't
search there. "We should try to look near the lake," he commented.
She nodded and turned to head to the lake. As she padded along, she
kept a sharp eye out for any signs of it. As she neared the water,
she could hear a faint buzzing. Bees. She thought, glancing
at Badgertail. "You okay? D'you breathe in smoke too?"
Badgertail limped after Stormfly and was taken aback when she asked
if he was fine. "I inhaled some smoke, but I'm more worried about
Oakpaw at this point," he rasped. The sound of buzzing reached his
ears and he looked up. "Somewhere around here is a beehive," he
meowed under his breath.
even though two random cats will just appear out of nowhere
x'3)
Foxfire woke up to a smoke clogging her throat and creating a veil
of darkness around her eyes, she instinctivley started searching
for Dapplekit the second she snapped awake. She felt around the
nursery franticly until she found her kit curled up in the corner,
breaths raspy and labored. She hurtled out of the nursery,
Dapplekit in her jaws, only to be met by a wall of fire. Setting
dapplekit between her paws she yowled a plea. Scooping her kit up
again, she searched for a way out of the rapidly increasing fire
barring her exit. Suddenly, she noticed an unscathed log and jumped
on top of it, using one of the flimsier remaining branches as a
sort of diving board (best way for me to describe it sorry), she
lunged over the flames, hind legs loosing a bit of fur in the
process.
Stormfly blinked, giving a small nod. She kept her gaze up, raking
the trees for any signs of bees. As she did, she felt a sting of
fear that clung to her. She hadn't really dealt with bees this way
before, so she didn't quite know what she was doing. "Uh..." she
spotted a small yellow insect zoom through a few branches. "Up
there?"
Badgertail looked up as well. The buzzing intensified. "Yes, that's
where the hive is located," he confirmed Stormfly's question. "I'm
sure medicine cats have a special way of the honey down, but I
think our best bet is to raid it..." he rattled. "Unless you have a
better idea."
She finally escaped the camp, but didn't stop running. there was a
faint buzzing in the air, but she ignored it in her panic. Ears
pinned to her head, she continued rocketing through the forest,
racing past Stormfly and Badgertail. She started to slow, loosing
energy, and had to stop about ten yards from the two other cats.
Realizing Dapplekit probably had inhaled the smoke, the wild
looking queen paced in circles around her kit, not knowing what to
do
Stormfly shook her head. "Let's just go with that, then..." she
mewed, taking a few steps towards the tree. She looked straight up.
Several bees overhead flew around something she couldn't see, as it
was hidden behind the leaves, but she knew it had to be a hive.
Badgertail gripped the base of the tree with his two front legs and
scrabbled up. The strain on his muscles was more than he
realized--he was still weak from the fire--and one of his hind feet
slipped, causing him to crash down. "Fox dung," he cursed. "This
will be difficult..."
Stormfly took her turn to climb the tree, but as she started going
up, the weight of her slight anxiety pulled her down. She ended up
barely reaching the lowest branch on the tree; it seemed to be
sturdy as she got up. "Yeah..." She mumbled, keeping her attention
on the bees. She felt more nervous the closer she was to them. On
her second attempt to climb up, she placed a hind leg on a small
branch for support as she climbed, but that branch broke easily and
she slid down, luckily landing on the low branch.
