Magnolia looked down for a moment and thought, then looked back up
at her shook her head.
''i've tried asking before but he didn't seem comfortable about
telling me where he used to live... that's kind of why i stuck with
just assuming... anyway, he's twenty two, he said he was the same
age i am currently when we first met, so he's five year's older
than me'' she said, brushing a few brown strands of hair out of her
face.
she stood up and kept a hand on Wither's arm for a bit of balance,
then let go once she got her balance.
''i've known Kurai for five year's Wither, he's my best friend....
i trust him with every fiber of my being, if he's hiding anything
from me he probably has a good reason for hiding it...... now i'm
gonna go freshen up..'' Magnolia mumbled, then headed off to use
the restroom that was in Lucius' room.
Lucius was sitting in his chair at his rather large work space
leaning back and tuning what looked like a spruce wood guitar while
he waited for the results of the test's he was running.
he hummed softly as he played a few note's to check if they were
tuned right and swayed his tail, seeming rather relaxed despite
there being two stranger's he recently met standing in his
room.
''there is a sofa in the corner over there if you wanna make
yourselves comfy, or there is a sofa closer to my work space if you
wanna chat with me'' he said, not even looking over at them since
he was focused on his guitar.
Wither nodded but made no effort to actually move to either spot
until Void pawed at her, wanting to laze around on something. She
followed him to the couch near Lucius and watched as he plucked the
instrument. "Where did you learn to heal? She asked, inviting light
conversation.
''didn't learn it, i was born with this ability, it's rare for
demon's to be born with this ability, hence why most demon's who do
heal earn to do so.... though there is a line of healers in my
family tree so it shouldn't be to much of a surprise to some
demon's'' he said honestly, swaying his tail as he smiled
triumphantly when he finally got his guitar tuned.
Wither listened and nodded periodically with interest. She hadn't
been born with any particular ability--trends in her family were
hard to pin down--so her father had given her the parasol as
compensation. She supposed that it was more for the press and
salvaging his strong image, but either way, it was a gift that was
dear to her heart.
"Are there any repercussions to your ability? As far as I know, the
downsides of abilities can be pretty brutal."
''the only repercussion to my ability is i end up enduring a
patient's wounds, however severe they are, for a certain amount of
time, and then the wound's i sustain heal all on they're own... now
the times vary between each wound, for example some could last only
a couple minute's whereas other's could last of to like... maybe a
couple hours or more, life threatening wounds like stab woulds or
bullet wound's i've estimated take around over four to five hours
tops before they fully heal'' Lucius explained.
he looked over at his desk and picked up a scalpel, rolling his
chair closer to Wither as he held his free hand out toward's
her.
''i could demonstrate if you'd like, give me your right hand'' he
said.
Wither pursed her lips when she laid her eyes on the sharp blade in
his hand. It glared underneath the fluorescent lights that were
built into the ceilings, which somehow seemed to emphasize its
danger. Wither had been taught much better to not let anyone handle
a dangerous object around her--the rule applied even more strongly
to a stranger; although Magnolia trusted him, she would not let
Lucius have such power over her. She could feel Void tighten
himself around her ankle, indicating that even he advised against
it.
"I think I'll pass. I believe you," she said stiffly, drawing her
elbows back and folding her hands in her lap neatly in front of
her.
he gave a small grin and chuckled, setting the scalpel aside before
leaning back in his chair.
''cautious... good trait to have, but i assure you i wouldn't have
harmed you'' Lucius teased, purring softly with amusement.
he glanced down at Void and tilted his head slightly.
''you do realize i'm not a threat to you either right...? or are
you still peeved that i perched on your friends shoulder'' he
questioned, even more amused now.
Void, who was most definitely still bothered that Lucius perched on
her shoulder, scrunched his button nose and huffed. Knowing that
there was no point but still being a creature of pettiness, he
slipped into Wither's lap and laxly lay on his side. She rested her
hand on his flank and gave Lucius a smile that said too many things
to be read.
"I'm sure we'll find out about that one day," she replied.
he raised an eyebrow as he looked back at Wither, ear's swiveled
forwards in her direction out of surprise.
''i am loyal to this rebel base and it's leader, and the leader's
comrades.... surely you do not think i'd betray everyone here?''
Lucius asked, just a little confused now.
Wither sat back in her chair and laced her fingers together
tightly. "Lucius, we've had betrayals left and right this month. A
verbal statement--" She began to rebut, but stopped herself.
Don't try to pick a fight, she warned herself, pressing her
tongue against the top of her mouth and mustering a tight-lipped
smile.
"I don't mean to accuse you of anything. I suppose I'm just
paranoid with all of the recent mishaps."
''i understand about the betrayals, believe me being one of of the
very few demon medics in this base and helping those who are
injured, some demon's who end up caught in the crossfire prefer a
demon medic...'' Lucius muttered.
he sighed and readjusted his glasses, flicking his tail a bit out
of habit.
''we are all paranoid... some a bit more than other's'' Lucius
said, the statement directed at no one in particular but in
general.
Magnolia soon walked out and sat down next to Wither, hugging her
arm as she leaned against her and rested her head against her
shoulder.
''i wanna go stretch out in my bed but... i can't go back to my
room can i....?'' she mumbled, looking up at Wither as she asked
her question with a bit of an upset look.
Wither, who was still finding her reciprocated love to be
picturesquely surreal, blushed when Magnolia touched her. Her will
to respond to Lucius's insight melted away and her solemn
expression was ruined with the involuntary upward curl of her
lips.
She let herself smile up at Magnolia, "It might be fine if
someone's looking after you. Ask the doctor." She threw a glance at
Lucius.
''i wouldn't want to bother Lucius.... besides, my room is a crime
scene basically after what i did...'' Magnolia mumbled, looking
down and sighing.
the moment Wither glanced over she seen that Lucius had leaned back
in his chair and had answered what looked like a bright red
landline phone that he had on his desk humming occasionally in
reply, listening to whoever was on the other line, which sounded
like one of the other nurses from the infirmary.
''mhm.... mhmm...... hm, alright i'll be there in a few, just let
me collect up my things and i'll be there'' he said, hanging up
before he stood.he went over to the closet as he slipped his coat
off and checked the pockets, making sure nothing was in it before
tossing it into the hamper.
''i got called up to the infirmary to help with a fussy child who
doesn't wanna deal with they're check-up since it involves a blood
draw and a finger stick for blood sugar.... they usually call me
for appointments like this since i have a steadier hand and i'm
gentler'' he said.
"Right," Wither mumbled softly, remembering that Magnolia's room
was a mess. Void looked up at Lucius with his fluorescent orange
eyes when he spoke. He had shifted away from Wither's leg and was
now spread across the floor. "You
figure it'd be alright for her to leave now?" He asked.
''it probably isn't a good idea since her room is where the crime
scene is.... plus there is a witness who survived an attack with
minimal damage, which could be terrible in Magnolia's favor even if
it wasn't intentional'' Lucius explained, finishing up getting a
new doctor's coat and decided to button it up a bit.
he rolled the sleeves up a little and looked over at them, his tail
flicking underneath his coat.
''there is usually a reason why i do private appointments
occasionally, mostly with Magnolia considering her situation with
being a weaponized demon easily triggered my angelic magic and
spells... the reason why i keep an eye on her the most is due to
the fact that something could possibly change, even at the lowest
chance of it happening'' he said.
Lucius went over to check the results of the tests and continued
running them as he continued to speak.
''the fact the military scientists chose to make her such a
dangerous weaponized demon with a switch that can be so easily
switched, it's dangerous for her safety and everyone else's safety,
it's extremely dangerous with tensions so high as it is right now''
he explained once again.
Void nodded curtly to show that he understood even though Lucius
wasn't looking and padded back to Wither's side. [i]"I see. Oh, and we handled the witness~ in
terms of trouble for Magnolia, everything is fine... although I
think we may have to have a conversation with the boss,"
Void noted, knowing that Magnolia might be wondering.
Wither lightly squeezed Magnolia's shoulder with sympathy, "Well,
it's only for now, and you can rest in my room if you need to. Is
there anything I can do to make you comfier here?"
Magnolia simply curled up a bit as she listened to Lucius speak,
keeping her gaze towards the ground.
''i-i wouldn't mind going to rest some more.... i just... don't
want to be alone right now....'' she mumbled, seeming to be more
relaxed when being next to Wither.
"Okay," Wither said, a simple word spoken like a promise. Her hand
gradually swept to Magnolia's head, where she comfortingly brushed
her fingers through her hair. Kurai hasn't come back yet,
she thought to herself, looking at the door and hoping that she was
enough support for Magnolia alone.
Magnolia slowly closed her eyes and gave a soft sigh, resting her
eyes for a moment as she waited to see what the plan was.
Lucius glanced over at them from the corner of his eye and smiled a
tiny bit, a gentle gleam in his rose colored eyes.
''she's exhausted..... hey, Void was it? give your mistress a hand
in carrying miss Magnolia back to her room if you wouldn't mind,
she is stable enough to leave but if you think something is off
just bring her straight back here'' he said, finishing up his tests
before getting things put away and putting Magnolia's results and
stuff into a folder, which he then stashed away into a safe.
he tapped something out of Wither's sight and everything he had
out, safe included, slid back into hiding in the walls and looked
like a simple checkup room setup once more.
''and just give Kurai some time to adjust.... he has to learn that
"love at first sight" doesn't happen to everyone... it usually
takes a while'' Lucius said once he was done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kurai was still in the training room but was laying on the first
bleacher and had his face covered with one of his arms. it was better staying as a wolf forever... feelings aren't as
obvious as it is when your a wolf unless you know what your looking
for.... he thought, ears drooped.
Void perked up when Lucius addressed him directly. Wither had
already risen to her feet and helped Magnolia sit up by the time
that Lucius was done talking. She covered Magnolia's hand lightly
with her own and met her bright eyes, which she had always thought
were so wonderfully radioactive, her voice soft. "Do you want me to
carry you?"
