Cinderstar chuckled, padding out of the forest. "What's with dominant shes anyways?" Raccoonmask huffed, apparently losing the younger warrior.
Nightfeather returned back with a few mice dangling by their tails, held by her teeth. She dropped them into the pile and looked around. She and her siblings managed to survive the unfortunate event that befell the clan and now she was determined to help rebuild it. She padded over to the apprentice den, and stuck her head in, seeing Hawkpaw still fast asleep. She grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and dragged him out before dropping him to the ground.
Hawkpaw yowled as he twisted trying to get out of who's ever grip. He spun off his back onto his paws, ready to hiss but quickly bit his tongue. He swallowed and looked up at the she-cat he called sister. "Oh hi Nightfeather." He mewed and sat down and started to lick his fur down as it stood out in many places due to his scuffle earlier.
"Oh hi? Is that all you can say? Didn't you promise Racoonmask that you'd be up early to help bring in some food and train?" She growled at him and swung her paw down on his head. "Get going."
"Oh right!" He exclaimed and without looking around the camp he sped out towards the beach, trying to get a whiff of his mentors scent.
Wolfclaw yawned and stretched himself out on a rock by the beach. The sun shining down on his fur felt nice and warm and he didn't want to leave. He watched Smokespeck catch a few fish before disappearing back to the camp. 'Well I guess I should do some too.' He thought and finally heaved himself up and jumped down landing in the soft sand. He sprinted down the sand into the bush, hoping to catch something bigger then a mouse.
Stormflight sat by Snowpaw again. "What's wrong this time?" She asked calmly. The apprentice sighed. "I'm weak.." Her head hung low. Stormflight sighed, lifting Snowpaw's head to face her with her tail. "You're not weak. You're young. You may have brought back a mouse, but it's still something we can eat." She reminded the white cat. "I guess I... err, I dunno. I don't want to talk now." She mewed and padded off to look for something to do.
Wolfclaw was currently stalking a plump rabbit who happened to wander in front of his path. He pressed his body low to the ground and began to creep forward slowly. 'You're mine.' He unsheathed his claws and as soon as the scent of the rabbit became strong he pounced, digging his claws into it's fur. The rabbit, startled, began to buckle and kick. Wolfclaw held on and threw his weight down on the rabbit and bit it's neck making the rabbit suddenly drop motionless to the ground. The tom cat smiled, his ego boosted largely. He pulled his paws out of the fur and grabbed it by the back and wandered back to the clan.
Stormflight blinked in worry, watching Snowpaw exit the camp. She remained hesitant for a few moments before turning her head to face Nightfeather. "O-Oh yeah, she's fine... she just believes she's not trying hard enough, that's all." 'Not trying hard enough?' Great answer, mouse-brain. "Err, I mean she's just insecure of herself. I guess she needs to be alone for now."
Nightfeather smiled a little and nodded her head. "Well to cheer her up you can tell her she's done more then Hawkpaw has. All he did was sleep in, the fat little furball." She shook her head. "I'm sure it'll work out for her. Maybe a training session with Cinderstar will raise her morale up?"
Wolfclaw walked into camp and dropped the rabbit down on the pile. He licked his maw, restraining himself from just devouring it now. If he did that, Cinderstar would surely have his head.
Stormflight's slight negativity in her expression faded, but her worry for Snowpaw remained. "Yeah, she could use a challenge." She agreed, noting the apprentice's emotions she had seen just the moment before. She shook her head slightly. "So, uh, how's... hunting going?" She asked, her mind blank.
Snowpaw padded through the territory, setting foot onto the beach. She sat down and stared at the water, slightly wanting to go in, but at the same time just wanting to turn and go. Maybe I could at least touch the water..? No warrior had ever let her do that before, not even Stormflight. It was ridiculous how cats tended to treat her like a helpless kit, but a small part of her couldn't blame them. Curiously, she approached the water and placed a paw in, instantly pulling it out in surprise at how cold it was to her. She stepped away from the ocean, and quickly walked into the forest to look for something else to do.
so
have a suffering Adderpaw
He was padding along when we saw a squirrel look at him. Sprinting into action, the predator and prey raced up a tree. Squirrles being very tricky, it stopped at a branch. Adderpaw pounced too late and fell off the tree. His brain throbbed badly as the apprentice just laid there, too shaken to move at all.
Nightfeather smiled before lifting her own paw up and licking some of the fur down. "Hunting? Oh you know, the usual. A lot of mice, and rats." She shrugged, setting her paw back down. "I wish I was brave enough to jump into the water..but that won't happen." She shook her head slightly. "And how about you? Catch anything that didn't have a long tail at the end?" She smiled, amused.
"Well maybe you should look harder next time furl." Wolfclaw bumped into his sister, shifting her forward a bit. "Like maybe look for a rabbit?"
Nightfeather nipped at his back leg and sat back up. "Flea-brain go back to hunting." Wolfclaw laughed it off, and jogged back into the forest.
Hawkpaw came across Adderpaw after what seemed like running around for moons on end. "Adderpaw, you alright?" He stood at the apprentice's head, looking down at him. "What are you laying down on the ground for?"
"Same birds and squirrels I guess." Stormflight shrugged, chuckling slightly as Wolfclaw came and went. "I wish I could hunt in the ocean, but... Mudrain says I'm meant for hunting on land, and that little know-it-all can barely catch two fish!" She felt a lighter mood come on. "Yet.. he is kind of right. I'm not exactly strong enough to swim."
Snowpaw bounded through the forest freely, skidding to a halt in front of Adderpaw and Hawkpaw. "Is something wrong?" She asked curiously.
Nightfeather nodded and looked over at her, "Well I share your sympathy there. I don't think I'd be strong enough for the water either. But maybe we can both learn, once better times come along. Even Mudrain had to start somewhere." She smiled.
Hawkpaw glanced over as another apprentice joined him. "I don't know. I found him like this." He looked from Snowpaw back to Adderpaw. "Did you fall off the tree or something?"
Wolfclaw picked up the scent of two...three apprentices and he bounded over. "What's going on? Why are you three just standing here. If you have nothing to do then practice some hunting skills." He towered over both Snowpaw and Hawkpaw, looking straight down at Adderpaw. "Sleeping during the day isn't an attribute you would like to be associated with when you are made a warrior."
"Y-yes Wolfclaw." Adderpaw replied weakly, stumbling while trying to get up.
"You're just weak." Cinderstar nonchalantly stated. "You're so cruel." He sulked, earning a shrug from his leader.
Snowpaw leaned against Adderpaw to support his balance. "Got it?" She asked softly.
"Yeah. One day I might just be swimming circles around that furball." Stormflight sighed, feeling more cheerful than usual. Mudrain overheard as he padded past them, just exiting from his den. "We'll see about that." He meowed sarcastically, getting a playful glare from his sister.
"Do you need any help? Is he too heavy for you?" Hawkpaw pipped up after the warrior had left, watching Snowpaw help the other regain his balance.
Nightfeather chuckled. "You never know Mudrain. Maybe she will be better then you. She has untapped potential." A smile grazed her maw as she watched the two interact. Swimming was probably not her thing, but she figured you don't know until you try.
"You don't need to do this, i'm fine." Adderpaw huffed, straining himself to trot in the direction of camp. He was too flustered to get any more help, usually the tom wasn't this clumsy. 'That's why you're still an apprentice, mousebrain.' His mind insulted.
"So, how's Quietpool? Heard you check up on her from time to time." Raccoonmask asked, padding next to his leader. "She's doing well, I hope queens aren't pooping kits on our territory without telling us. Poor things." Cinderstar replied.
Mudrain shrugged. "You could be right. But by now it's unlikely." Stormflight slightly agreed with him. "Eh, I guess it is.." She mumbled.
"Aww don't be such a downer Mudrain." Nightfeather glowered over at him. "Stormflight could most definitely still become a strong swimmer if only she could find a...respectable teacher to show her how."
