The Path to Heaven (1 on 1 with AuroraNightshade)

Once the battle had begun dying down I had gone back to the mall. Imagine my surprise when I was met by Zeta, Hamilton, and a nine foot monster of a man wearing a thick red and black trench coat. He was carrying a trembling Maurina in his arms. She was clearly in shock, her eyes staring blankly into space. The man introduced himself as Evander, before explaining what had happened, how Jacob had been injured before transforming into an Ex and attempting to eat Maurina. Zeta then proceeded to interrogate me on whether or not I had know that Jacob was an Ex. It was at this point that Maurina struggled loose from the man's hold, before bolting off to the apartments. I tried to explain to them that they must be mistaken, that there was no way Jacob was an Ex, but they wouldn't listen. "Delilah said she sensed something dark in him." Hamilton muttered. "We should have listened to her." Zeta scowled at me. "How can you even defend him? He shows up, Delilah feels that he is evil, then this attack happens. We shouldn't have had anything to do with them." She crossed her arms, turning to Hamilton. "And the girl must have known. If she would help an Ex infiltrate our home, deceive us and gain our trust, we can't trust her. She either leaves or dies." I almost slapped her at that. "How can you even say that! Didn't you see the state she's in? She was almost eaten by her new husband! She obviously didn't know. And even if she did, we don't have the right to decide who lives or dies." I had then stomped off. I needed to check on her. With the others on the war path she would be in a dangerous situation for a while. But I would protect her. I wouldn't fail again...
"...B-B-B-Bru..." I shook and trembled. He looked at me and kept nudging me until I was standing. Then he stepped closer, forcing me to walk into the bathroom. I barked out a laugh that quickly turned to body shaking sobs. But I humored Brutis and took a shower. Once clean, I pulled on some clean under clothes and pants. Then I went back to the bedroom and picked up the shirt Jacob had worn the day before when we wed. I pulled it on, breathing in his scent. Then I curled up into a ball on the bed. Brutis jumped up and laid next to me. I hugged my middle protectively. Big, fat tears rolled down my cheeks and Brutis licked my face, trying to get me to stop. I pulled him closer and buried my face in his fur, crying.
(YEAH! EVANDER'S BACK! ~dances about~)
I listened for a moment as they squabbled. It didn't matter to me what they wanted to do, though I admired the bigger man's courage in standing up for the girl. I left directly after he did. The others didn't seem to notice. Ever since I saw those two on the banks of the lake I had felt some sort of connection to them. Now I knew why. The boy had the same power, or at least a similar one, as I did. He didn't know how to control it yet. Likely he had no idea what he was doing. I had to find him. The girl needed her husband. And he needed his wife.

I climbed into the creaking old elevator, pressing the button for the top floor. It rattled and shook as it rose. I wasn't sure what I would say, but I had to help the girl. She was so much like her... The doors creaked open and I stepped inside. "Maurina? Are you in here?"
Brutis whinned and yipped letting Peter know where we were. He walked in to find me laying there on the bed, buried in Bru's fur. I just couldn't seem to face him.
Inside myself, I was lost at sea. An ironic notion to me now. I laughed and probably sounded insane. But I couldn't help it! It was just so funny! Me! Lost at sea? As if!
