The lunch bell rang loudly and Dustin almost fell out of his chair.
He had fallen asleep in class and was startled by the sudden noise.
Yawning loudly, he stood up, stretching out a bit. He glanced back
at Raven and rolled his eyes, wanting to be done with school
already. He walked over beside her raising an eyebrow slightly and
murmuring, "Were you able to stay awake during that class?"
"Yeah," Raven replied, exiting the room. "Barely. Anyway, why
wasn't that room I got stuck in on the map?" She pulled the map out
to show Dustin, just to prove her point.
"Heck if I know, it's not important anyways." Dustin says shrugging
a bit as they reach the cafeteria. He glances around and walks over
to a table, throwing his bookbag onto it. "If I don't do this we
won't get a table." He says softly. The cafeteria was much busier
during lunch. The line was almost through the cafeteria doors by
this point. Dustin pulled on Raven's arm softly, guiding her
through the crowd and into a spot in line.
"Cant someone just steal it? If I were anyone else I probably
would," Raven pointed out once they were in line. "But then again,
that's probably just me." I never knew so many people had
abilities, though, she thought to herself. There has to be
at least thousands of people here.
"They could, but people don't usually mess with a shadow bender."
Dustin says chuckling softly. "And you're a little thief eh?" He
asks grinning a bit. The line moves a bit, but it seems like
everyone is barely moving.
"Sometimes. When I was younger I would steal people's pencils and
things during class and they would get all frantic, and just as the
teacher notices them I put it back and act like I did absolutely
nothing," Raven replied with a grin. "What is taking so long with
this line? All you have to do is grab your food and get out of
line. It doesn't take that long."
"That's not stealing, you were doing those kids a favor. But I like
that little dark side you have there" Dustin says grinning and
rolling his eyes. "Patience is a virtue young one." He says as they
move forward quite a bit.
"We could just knock down a bunch of kids and run to the front of
the line, well or just sneak by, I guess," Raven suggested. "I have
no patience whatsoever."
Grinning, Raven easily slipped past several kids until she was
fairly close to the front. Several kids gave her puzzled looks. She
turned and waved to Dustin, nearly 10 kids behind her.
Dustin rolls his eyes, leaning
slightly against the wall and shaking his head at her. Geez,
guess that girl is pretty gutsy. Dustin thought to himself
stepping forward and grabbing some food to shove onto his tray. He
wasn't going to let her show him up. Carrying his tray, he pushed
past some kids, saying soft excuse me's as if it made it any
better. He came up beside Raven, pursing his lips as he held the
tray close to his chest. "You sure' are something." He murmured,
glancing at the clock as if the time mattered to
him.
"When is lunch over anyway? At this rate lunch is going to be over
by the time we get out, cutting or not." She glanced at the clock
herself. We've been waiting forever, she exaggerated to
herself.
He smiles slightly, the words
giving him an idea. "Hey, why don't we take our lunches out to the
courtyard. I'm sure the teachers would be pissed but what they
don't know won't hurt them." He said grinning a bit and picking a
fry off his plate to chew on in line.
[[ Let's speed this up till we
are out in the courtyard. ]]
Dustin hurried through the lunch line, dragging Raven along with
him. Dustin payed for Raven's lunch, mainly because it would make
it go quicker, and a bit because of wanting to be a gentleman. He
got to the door that led to the courtyard. It was nestled a bit
away from the lunch room but the two had made it their without
being caught. Dustin glanced around slightly before pushing the
door open. The outside light was so bright it was blinding. He
slightly covered his eyes using his free hand and stepped outside.
The courtyard was a small square opening, surrounded on all sides
by bushes and plants and a small fountain laid in the center. "Cool
huh'?" Dustin said more so a statement than a question and headed
over to the fountain which had small ledges that could easily be
used as seats.
Raven followed, stuffing her face as she walked. She took a seat on
a ledge. Swallowing, she said, "I feel like I'm going to-" Just as
she guessed, before she finished she tumbled backwards into the
water, miraculously keeping her food dry. "Coldcoldcold!"
Dustin yipped softly, reaching
back to try and catch Raven, only to have her slip past his
fingertips and into the water. The splash got him a little wet and
he made a puckered face at her, reaching his hand to help her out.
"Smooth." He said softly, trying not to laugh as he helped her out
of the fountain.
"Logic does not apply to me," she replied, settling on standing up
to eat. "Did I mention I don't do well in or around water? Me+water
is just begging for electrocution."
"Ah right. Well maybe you
should've thought about that before being clumsy near water."
Dustin said now letting a bit of a laugh out and taking a bite of
his sandwich. "We can go sit on the bench if you want, that way you
don't have to stand and you also can't fall into any fountains." He
said softly, standing up and taking her hand lightly in his,
swiftly pulling her towards the bench without waiting for an
answer.
