Because of horde battles introduced, Nintendo and Gamefreak wanted to have horde trainer battles too, so all of those rivals were put in the game. However, the horde trainer battles were never implemented until ORAS with the magma grunt horde battles.

It's actually uncommon for Espurr to have yellow circles in it's ears. If your does, it means that it has power from an Umbreon making it's attacks stronger.
